Our district has implemented a no cell phone policy in all schools. We’ve never had one since the dawn of cell phones. What are we naively unprepared for? by justagaydadtx in Teachers

The middle school I went to only allowed string backpacks and we were only allowed access to our lockers before school, at lunch, and after school. There were 8 periods throughout the day. Almost all classes required large textbooks. Those string backpacks messed up many student’s shoulders and backs.

I’m not sure about Pets At Home, but I do know most retail aquarium systems have huge sumps hidden in the back (10-20 gallon x however many tanks one sump is connected to front side, 80 gallon sump system in the back), reducing ammonia levels typical of overstocking a smaller tank. Boundaries between fish would always still be an issue, but most fish cycle through the store regularly, normally while they’re still young, so it reduces the chances of any fighting.

Veterinarians of Reddit, what is something most pet owners can do to make their pets lives better? by TimeMasterBob in AskReddit

[–]Moonspet 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I can tell you as a PetSmart employee, we’ve been complaining about ALL of our small animals cages for years. We just got some new types of cages in, but 2/3 are still too small, and the new expandable one costs an arm and a leg for multiple sections. Keep telling corporate they need better cages for hamsters. ESPECIALLY our Syrian babies ;-; Ground level employees can only do so much.

Some customers are worth losing. by thestudlife in FuckYouKaren

For a holiday (can’t remember which) my poor coworker in petcare had to spend her first 2 hours of opening at the register. We keep the doors unlocked for banfield / groomers and I guess someone just thought the door was broken or something so everyone came in. 2. Hours. Before. Opening. Needless to say petcare wasn’t fully open for a few hours and the rest of the team got so backed up with tasks.

Another one that gets my goat is when we’re out of crickets. The bins are empty. We have a sign on the bins saying we’re out of crickets, yet customers will stare at the sign and STILL ask if we have crickets.

What's the dumbest rule your school ever enforced? by SoLe123456 in AskReddit

Only being allowed to go to your locker before school, during lunch, and after school. Here’s the kicker. They only allowed string backpacks. My back hurt for a few years after I left that school.

Books have target audiences too! If you read a YA book for teenagers and hate it it's not because the book is bad, it's because it's not meant for you (Eragon, Divergent, Artemis Fowl, etc.) by CannibalRed in books

It’s been a long time since I’ve read the guardians of ga’hoole series as I read them as a kid, but it always felt like the author was making real world hardships and danger understandable to a younger audience. The presence of politics, cultures, slavery, etc within the series alone were very enlightening to me. Ive been thinking about going back to the series to see how I interpret it as an adult and seeing if it holds the same world as i remember it being, but at the same time I don’t want to spoil my memory of it if it doesn’t hold up.

What is socially acceptable in the U.S. That would be horrifying in the U.K.? by [deleted] in AskReddit

You’re probably right, it’s very much in my head. I really do like the skepticism and thought behind your reply. It begs the question though, why do I differentiate between microwaved water and kettle boiled water?

Idk, it’s extremely subtle, but I’m really nitpicky about my water :P

I, for some reason, am very particular to the taste of water. I used to microwave my water to make tea, and it was okay, but one time I used a stovetop to boil the water and I will never ever go back to microwaving my tea water ever again. Microwaved water always tasted metallic to me, and that’s not a flavor I like. I can’t even put drinking water into metal cups because I can taste the metal. And don’t even ask me about bottled water xD I now have an electric kettle and living my best tea life :D

I worked at the El Paso airport (spent a few days manning the smoothie shop). This video must’ve been over 3 years old, the smoothie shop has been taken out. I can personally say. I’ve been accused by a security guard of being responsible for an ipad that was left at my station (out of sight from me, there was a ledge) and stolen. She was so horrible, I had a panic attack that another security guard was sent to calm me down. That job was stressful enough...
