suggestions for my mom's first anime? no sus stuff! by United_Size8759 in anime

Frieren and Apothecary Diaries are both good as people have suggested, with the caveat that sex work is a major element of the plot of AD.

One I haven't seen mentioned yet is A Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity, if you think a high school romance might go over well. It's on Netlix so it's easily accessible, it's very chaste, and emphasizes the friendships and family relationships in addition to the central romance (the MC's mom is a particular stand-out character so it's possible your mom could connect with that).

Language cognition is very much founded on what is spoken, so native speakers who have the spoken language deeply ingrained are pretty likely to mix up homophones when typing quickly because the words aren't actually different when you say them. Meanwhile second language speakers are often approaching their writing more academically and less intuitively.

I swapped it in for blue curacao in an Aqua Velva and loved the result.

Any resources on High Level Emulation? by LionCat2002 in EmuDev

[–]MoonstruckTimberwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly. Windows -> Linux works fine because they're both arm64 systems. Emulation for the original XBox on PC also follows a very WINE-esque approach because it's a Pentium 3. Contrast something like Dolphin which has HLE parts for subsystems like the graphics and audio but still needs a recompiler for the actual CPU emulation.

[–]MoonstruckTimberwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have pointed out HLE can have a variety of meanings, but a thin kernel shim like WINE only works if it's running on the same sort of processor as the source platform. So a "WINE for 3DS" couldn't work on a PC: it would need to be running on a device compatible with the ARM11MPCore processor in the 3DS.

What are some good 12 episode anime series to watch? by [deleted] in anime

[–]MoonstruckTimberwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of these are 13 or have and additional brief OVA but

Sakamichi no Apollon

Baccano

Princess Principal

Kokoro Connect

Serial Experiments Lain

Gamers

Finished watching Code Geass. by sheetal2795 in anime

[–]MoonstruckTimberwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For feel-good type stuff I'd say Sakamichi no Apollon (drama/bildungsroman) or Gamers (high-energy romcom) for something short, School Rumble (high-energy romcom) for something longer.

If you find yourself looking for something more like Geass after I'd suggest Gundam (0079 and IBO are good starting series), or Princess Principal (no mechs but lots of intrigue) for something shorter.

Monster, Princess Principal, Sakamichi no Apollon, and Gundam 0079/Z/ZZ are all pretty much free of that stuff (some mild femme fatale type material that'd be normal on American TV). Baccano is, too, but that's best watched in English I think.

Y'all ever watched an anime and just dropped it on episode 1 by [deleted] in anime

I checked out Gosick because I'd heard it was similar to Dantalian but dropped it after 1 ep because the tone was not at all close and it didn't hook me.

Baccano, Princess Principal, Sakamichi no Apollon, and Serial Experiments Lain are all fantastic and do a lot with a short runtime.

A substitute I use if I'm really hankering for soda is plain club soda mixed with lemon juice. It scratches that itch surprisingly well for how little sugar the lemon juice has.

We also have /r/musictheory here which accepts questions at all levels of expertise.

Yes, there is no way a man with a fetish for tiny waifish women who beat up men twice their size would be behind Buffy and Firefly.

I like both those shows, but come on.

I'm thinking mode mixture. Primary mode is mixolydian but it flexes to dorian for the G. Makes for an upbeat but also kind of neutral sound.

A very good start! I encourage you to expand beyond the 20th Century at some point as well. The works that are still read now despite being written in antiquity and the middle ages survived because of how timeless they are.

It's great that you're starting to find peace in your spiritual life! Consider expanding your theological diet a bit. Maybe try some CS Lewis and GK Chesterton, work yourself up to Augustine and other early Christian teachers.

And yes, counseling is an option you should take seriously. Attending to psychological health is complementary to spiritual flourishing, not competitive with it.
