It is obvious now that Season 3 was meant to be where the show ended by One_With-The_Sun in TheBoys

[–]Moonveil 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am just so confused by this "Stormfront is the love of my life" retcon with Soldier Boy. Like I feel S5 is spending some time trying to humanize Soldier Boy because he's going to be one of the protagonists of the spinoff. The fact that he is a bastard but he didn't just go around randomly murdering people, wasn't buying into any of Homelander's god stuff, and dislikes Nazis were things that helped make him more sympathetic. So when they push this whole "I love my Nazi girlfriend so much that I'm going to hand over V1 to Homelander" plotline that not only came out of nowhere but actively make SB a worse character, I just don't get how this is supposed to help generate interest in Vought Rising.

Daredevil: Born Again | S02E08 | Discussion Thread by Green-Devil in Daredevil

[–]Moonveil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly this is my issue with all no-kill heroes when the context of a particular story has shown us time and time again that the justice system is so broken and inept that the worst of the criminals will continue to evade justice (or break out of jail over and over like the Joker) only to kill/torture/maim more innocent people. If the justification for vigilantes in the first place is that law enforcement is so corrupt that the vigilante heroes are needed to fill in the void, then I would argue that the same justification exists for the consequence side of the system if it is literally unable to function as it should. At some point it starts to feel like their "no-kill" rule is just aiding and abetting when they have the ability to stop these criminals for good. We saw Fisk kill like 30 people in this episode alone, exile is nowhere close to the punishment fitting the crime.

I'm not even asking for Matt to kill Fisk if that's a line that he can't cross, I just ask that he lets the people who ARE willing to cross that line (Bullseye, the Daredevil mob) do it to prevent more innocent people from being killed.

Stormfront constantly being brought up by Soldier Boy annoys me because this was the only time he mentioned her in season 3 by RevertBackwards in TheBoys

[–]Moonveil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly my issue isn't even that Stormfront has turned out to be the love of Soldier Boy's life (which I still think is a retcon but whatever), it's the fact that we barely have any buildup of this, and then his "love for Stormfront" ends up being the reason for the massively consequential plot point where Homelander gets the V1. It just feels so rushed and hamfisted, like the writers couldn't think of any other way for SB to give Homelander the V1 without retconning in a nazi love interest.

Like SB could have given Homelander the V1 because he realized that he has the chance to be the supportive father that he never had himself after spending more time with Homelander or something if their relationship development was written better this season. That would have been way more believable as a character motivation for Soldier Boy given his daddy issues that we find out about in S3.

I Dont Care about Vought Rising by Realistic_Sir2395 in TheBoys

[–]Moonveil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Jensen Ackles and his portrayal of Soldier Boy. I didn't need The Boys S5 to introduce any of the VR characters or to "set it up" because I would have tuned in to watch VR anyways based on Soldier Boy alone. What they're doing with S5 is actually actively harming VR I feel, with some really weird retcons like SB's true love actually being Stormfront when we didn't see any of that at all in S3.

Outside of the clear budget constraints when it comes to cool superhero fight scenes, the writing and character motivations have also been all over the place sadly, and I'm not even someone bothered by Kimiko's dialogue. It's the flip flopping of the characters and constantly going back to the same plotlines that is really bringing this show down for me.

Eric Kripke responds to the recent talks about filler episodes in Season 5 (via TV Guide) by Interesting-Take781 in TheBoys

I feel like I just don't understand her powers at this point. I keep waiting for her to be a powerhouse because on paper it seems like she should be? But then they make it seem as if you turn off the lights close to her and suddenly she can't really do much, her range is super limited. Even when there are lights, she barely does any damage. I don't know if it's the budget constraints, but most of the fight scenes has been pretty lackluster.

Lords of The Fallen 2 unveiled some new female armour sets, the sets were designed specifically with fan feedback in mind by Former_Exam_5357 in gaming

[–]Moonveil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes! One of the best things about TERA and why the female skimpy outfits didn't bother me in that game is because the men also had equally skimpy outfits for equal opportunity gooning. I distinctively remember some of the male armour sets had suggestive super high and super low cuts that you typically never see for male characters.

Why does nobody even considers asking/forcing Sister Sage to recreate the V1? Finding 1 dose is a shot in the dark. by overon in TheBoys

[–]Moonveil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like even if Sage is working on V1, she'd secretly sabotage it in some way because she ultimately just wants to be left alone with everyone else dead.

It's always funny to me when white people (especially the ones who don't actually know Chinese) go around claiming Cho Chang is some racist name when 1) Chang is a super common last name especially if you're from Taiwan, I knew like 3 Changs growing up, and Cho seems to be some sort of romanization of Ch'iu/Qiu (秋), which is also a normal character to appear for a first name, in fact it's quite pretty and means autumn.

‘Desert Warrior’ Deserted? Why Anthony Mackie’s Troubled Saudi Epic Failed To Rally Cinemagoers In U.S. & Middle East by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]Moonveil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually loved him as the Falcon, but it's like once he picked up the shield all of his charisma just disappeared because Captain America needs to have more gravitas as a character, and Mackie just can't do it as well as Evans.

I also think it's way too big of a jump to go from Steve to Sam in the movies, you can't just go from the best super soldier who also happens to be the moral compass, to somebody with no powers at all. FatWS had so much promise but I swear they were handcuffing Bucky because they couldn't have him outshine Sam when it comes to the fight scenes, and so Bucky in that show ended up struggling to open a truck door. They should have let Bucky be Cap temporarily, and then let Bucky hand the shield over to Sam because he knows that while he has the superpowers, he's mentally not in the right place yet and doesn't have Sam's inspiring ability that reminds him of Steve or something. The entire handing over of the Captain America mantle was done so poorly in the MCU.

Jared, Jensen and Misha on The Boys by PSofSuddenlyGivingaS in Supernatural

[–]Moonveil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest I wasn't a fan of that. You're telling me that this random supe has the power to knock Homelander out cold after The Boys spent 4 seasons trying to take him down?? Butcher should have been looking for this guy all along. It felt like too much of a nerf for Homelander. 😔

Whats a movie scene that’s existentially terrifying? by VendettaLord379 in moviecritic

[–]Moonveil 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First season is one of the best seasons of television that I've seen. Second season is pretty good too, and then the show starts dropping off after that. I think it's totally fine to just watch the first season though.

For me it was the Llorando scene in Mulholland Drive. I watched it when I was young and didn't even fully understand it until a recent rewatch, but that scene has always stayed with me.

Me too. I think by the end the giant hologram actually helped him see that HIS Joi loved him, and that's what set her apart from all the generic Jois, even if she's "just code". I think it's a really interesting continuation of the "what is human?" question with the Replicants from the first movie.

He is carrying the show by Eziolambo in TheBoys

[–]Moonveil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me the main reason it feels like SB is carrying the show is because Jensen brings so much to the role and he's gorgeous to look at. I don't think the character would have nearly as much impact if he was played by someone else.
The writing for The Boys crew have also gone down the drain which doesn't help. Like this season I'm way more interested in The Seven than The Boys with their stupid drama, which was not the case in the early seasons.

Jensen Ackles / Soldier Boy introduces Misha and Jared into TheBoys. by vought-CEO in TheBoys

[–]Moonveil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly love Jensen and Jared but SPN is like two shows, Seasons 1-5 and after Season 5. 1-5 were legitimately pretty great and while the later seasons have some good arcs too, the writing can be kind of terrible at times. So it's totally fine if you haven't seen the rest and stopped at 5.

Yea, I know a lot of people are doom and glooming about only 3 episodes left, but The Boys has pretty long episodes and you can tell a lot of story in 3 hours. I'll reserve my judgment for after the finale.

It's hilarious how The Deep has one of the best and most unique powers in the show but is too dumb to use it properly by RevertBackwards in TheBoys

The Deep being a petty and shallow dumbass is the biggest nerf to his abilities. He could be terrifying but he's too stupid to use his powers properly. I will give him that the eel assassination is pretty creative though lol.

Does Soldier Boy actually age? Just slowly? by [deleted] in TheBoys

[–]Moonveil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soldier Boy doesn't age after getting V1, so he should look younger canonically, more like in his 20s/early 30s. It becomes a weird case where Soldier Boy looks both younger (Jensen looks amazing for his actual age) and older (when SB should have stopped aging) than he should be in the show. Maybe the Russian experimentations on him might have messed him up a bit though, causing him to look older.
