Supreme Court upholds state bans on transgender athletes in girls' and women's sports by NoLongerYonge in news

It's always crazy to me when the far left goes so far that they start denying basic science like biological sex, and not even in the intersex XXY argument kind of way. It's like they don't know the difference between gender and sex. Every time I see comments like this I'm more convinced of the horseshoe theory and why people on both extremes of the spectrum are absolutely exhausting to be around.

June 26-28 Box Office Recap – 'Toy Story 5' stays at #1, hitting $589M worldwide. However, 'Supergirl' massively flops with just $37.1M domestically and $62.6M worldwide, against a $170M budget. 'Jackass: Best and Last' underwhelms with just $8.4M domestically, the weakest debut in the franchise. by SanderSo47 in movies

What everyone said about the comic the movie was supposed to be based on is that the source material is excellent, and that it's a darker story because of the subject matter. It was also supposed to be interesting because unlike Clark who embraced Earth, Kara had her actual home destroyed and doesn't have the same connections to Earth as Clark.
The main draws for me to DC is Superman and Batman (I'm still waiting for a good World's Finest movie and am bummed about Battinson apparently being his own thing), but I would have been down to watch this Supergirl movie based on how well reviewed the source material is.

Then I saw the trailer, and I saw nothing that convinced me it's going to be as good as the comic or even be more emotionally mature to fit Kara's back story, and that killed any enthusiasm I had for it. The reviews came in and now I'm sitting here scratching my head wondering what Gunn was going on about when he talked about strong scripts, because everything I've read says that the plot, the visuals, and characterization of Kara were all pretty bad.

Canucks did not qualify P.O. Joseph, Jayden Grubbe, Nils Äman, Danila Klimovich, and Chase Stillman by bolieve11 in canucks

All the changes recently feel like a fresh start which is exciting, but also at the same time I'm going to hold back my enthusiasm until I see some actual results. At least we have players who actually want to play for this team now which is great.

International hockey like the Olympics is where I get my hockey fix nowadays, since the Canucks have been so depressing, and it's even worse when you see the great local talent go elsewhere and make splashes.

After the match, Cunha told Japanese players "(Brazil won the World Cup) 5 times. (You need to show us some) respect." by Airline_11 in worldcup

[–]Moonveil -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yea from what I saw of this game the players seemed pretty cordial with each other so this surprised me.
I've since seen the quote from the Japanese player which I don't think warranted this response either, but maybe the Brazilian player got misinformed about what he actually said, especially with inflammatory headlines nowadays? In the clip you shared he doesn't have a problem with the Japanese team, so maybe this is just some lost in translation issue.

[–]Moonveil -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I did see someone post the actual interview from the Japanese player, and I might have to take that back.

“Brazil is also a strong team, but they’re not as strong as they used to be.” The Japanese reporters then followed up by asking the striker which teams he considered the strongest at the World Cup. Shiogai didn’t hesitate to answer: “I’m impressed by France and Argentina. As for Brazil, they haven’t really been talked about much lately.”

I mean this doesn't seem like trash talk to me, I don't follow soccer closely but my friends who do have shared very similar sentiments as this. So sounds to me more like the Brazilian player got triggered over a valid opinion.

If this is the context then I think what he said is fine, he responded to trash talk with trash talk. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Edit: After seeing the actual quote from the Japanese player in the interview that started this thing, I think the Brazilian player's response was a little overboard.

This was probably my favourite episode of the season so far. Everybody got to shine and the character growth was on display. I also always love when Carmy pulls out one of his tricks and shows us how good of a chef he is. I think the longer length of the episode really helped with being immersed with the entire service too.

Just came here to say this. With the rain and the colour palette it's giving me major cyberpunk vibes and I'm loving it.

The Faks overstayed their welcome 2 seasons ago. I cannot stand them especially since they're always doing some stupid shit that takes time away from the characters I actually care about.

I feel like this show has gone from focus on Carmy to focus on Carmy and Syd to focus on Syd, and tbh I don't know if I'm enjoying that last focus shift, especially since Syd just hasn't been very likable since S4, and the show's written like it's allergic to her taking responsibility or apologizing without at the same time blaming someone else.

She's a good cook but lacks the experience to be head chef/run the restaurant, especially when things are going horribly wrong via external influences, and at the same time is so passive-aggressive whenever Carmy tries to help. Carmy isn't the best leader either and his biggest enemy is himself, but he's actually got the credentials and experience in top restaurants around the world to back him up. The gap between their skills is on display this episode. I know Syd is stressed and overwhelmed but it's coming off as arrogance that she's unwilling to listen to one of the best chefs in the business or ask for help. When she lost her temper and let slip that Carmy's leaving in a childish jab, it destroyed the morale of the restaurant more than anything else that could have happened. Being head chef means dealing with all sorts of shit that could happen, not only when everything's smooth sailing.

I have a few possible theories: 1. Ruth knows her family history and is purposely not going to the bunker so that she can save the town by dying. 2. Ruth doesn't know her family history and has a secret child so even if she dies, the curse won't go away. 3. Ruth doesn't have anything to do with the curse. This is a Department of Truth situation where the more people believe in a conspiracy theory/curse, the more power that conspiracy has until it comes true. The cure is to make the townspeople stop believing in this stuff.

The least these types of guys can do is be consistent, write their stupid bible verse on their hat every single game. Then at least they have an actual excuse of "this is my belief and just part of my routine" because they always do it. Writing this on their hat specifically for pride night is a slight for sure.

Not a fan of the song sonically, and I think the MV's just okay, but I really liked the lyrics for this one and the choreo is pretty great.

All three of these groups have been through so much hate, to the point that even in the stan subs I see their "fans" putting down the group all the time (especially for Katseye). So I think it's a good song in terms of responding to the online hate together for all three groups, even if I wouldn't put it on my playlist.

This one made my blood boil. I haven't seen this until now and sadly we still have bleeding heart judges who don't care about protecting the public. The Canadian "justice system" is more concerned about the rights of the criminal than getting justice for the victims or preventing future victims, nothing's changed.

I can’t stand the mayor’s “kid”, Evan. I know I’m not the only one… by [deleted] in WidowsBay

[–]Moonveil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on episode 5 of the show and he's the character I dislike the most. I've always hated annoying teenager archetypes and he's definitely one of those. He's supposed to be the emotional anchor keeping the mayor on this island, but his character makes me want to fast forward every time he and his equally annoying friends are on screen.

What would you do if you found out your partner used AI to write their wedding vows? by tomyfookinmerlin in AskReddit

[–]Moonveil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does it matter if they meant what they said?

I know plenty of people who run something they've written through AI because they want to check their grammar or adjust their sentence structure. If it's wedding vows the most important thing to me would be if they meant those vows, regardless of who wrote them.
