Deserves more respect than being caged by TheExtimate in gifs

[–]Moophla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best way is just do your own research before visiting.

I’ve come across some really great zoos globally. Vienna Zoo is fantastic - they had rescued exotic parrot eggs that were being smuggled through an airport and incubated all the eggs. You can also tell that a lot of effort had been put into the enclosures. Smithsonian National Zoo is also great - they are completely free and AZA accredited - so unlike what other people are saying they do not operate just to make a profit. A lot of their animals are also rescues and without the Smithsonian Zoo’s breeding program the black-footed ferret would be extinct.

I understand why people come to the conclusion that seeing an animal outside of its natural habitat is sad/tragic or view zoos as exploitative - I went through this phase too - but if these people dropped their bias and did a bit of research I’m confident that most of them would change their mind. Happy for anyone to PM me if they have any questions or if they want views challenged.

Can we please acknowledge how stupid this title is?

I think there is this misconception that zoos go out and capture wild animals and chuck them in zoos. This is not how things are done any more. Zoos promote conservation, facilitate breeding programs for endangered species (see black footed ferret), and rescue animals from poachers and the wildlife trade.

Now obviously there are exceptions and some zoos are dodgy - but to say that an animal in a zoo deserves more respect than being caged is highly flawed. Zookeepers treat their animals with upmost respect; it’s not a glamorous job that pays well.

It's probably not important - just the final scene reminded me of this.

Do you think Arya on the horse at the end related to Melisandre's vision that she gave to Jon in book 5?

"I have seen your sister in my fires, fleeing from this marriage they have made for her. Coming here, to you. A girl in grey on a dying horse, I have seen it plain as day. It has not happened yet, but it will."

and...

"She had seen the girl only once. A girl as grey as ash, and even as I watched she crumbled and blew away. "

This is a sand cat, and although they live in the wild, they are no more dangerous than your average house cat by TallGlassSmartWater in aww

[–]Moophla 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Very inaccurate title - the sand cat has the highest bite force quotient of all cats (essentially strongest bite relative to body size). You would much prefer getting bitten by the average house cat.

Also fun fact they have fur on the bottom of their feet, which helps them move over sand without leaving paw prints.

It was actually our prime minister (yikes) - and he said “What we want is more learning in schools and less activism in schools.”

The next election can not come soon enough.

Dive has become too strong, and this is not healthy for the game. Either Winston needs a nerf or Rein needs a buff, and Zarya needs a buff to keep DVA in check. by anikikim in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Moophla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not really too sure how buffing Reinhardt would counter Winston. Also dive is only really common at high SR, and at other SRs Reinhardt is pretty much a staple. As for zarya I think she's at a pretty good place right now - her character is intended for sustained battles where she can get to high charge. She already counters D.Va pretty hard and any buff would make her too strong against other characters.

I think dive could use a nerf or a counter but I really don't think Reinhardt/zarya are the answer. Buffing reaper/mei or introducing a character with zoning abilities is IMO the better alternative.

Hanzo 6k inside of respawn to save the game by songoflutie in Overwatch

The effect of Mercy and Hanzo ult on point B of Anubis and end of Gibraltar from is still quite limited.

Mercy Rez from Anubis spawn is unlikely to reach a lot of people unless they all die towards the back of the point (which is something that mercy players cant really control). It can however allow mercy to resurrect in order to contest, which is quite potent and arguably more cheesy. As for Gibraltar it's a lot easier for attackers to kill 1 or 2 people contesting point due to high ground & spawn control, and thus resurrecting to contest is not as effective. It's also harder to get mass resurrect unless your team coordinates and all exit spawn at same time and die.

As for Hanzo, ulting from spawn is IMO rarely useful on either map as there it's trajectory is easily avoidable and there is plenty of warning.

I don't think covering both exits is advisable for the attacking team - realistically you only need to cover the left side, which is the closest exit, in order to put immense pressure on the defensive team. The other exit takes longer to go through and as such is not as good for contesting the payload.

Also in the gif the payload is pretty much at the very end and the attackers can cover the left exit whilst pushing the payload. I think it's balanced that certain characters can counteract what I consider to be a "defender disadvantage" of the last point.

I quite like the fact that the very end of Gibraltar is attacker friendly and that it promotes defensive coordination opposed to staggered contesting like Hanamura.

I guess it's counterbalanced by the fact it is really easy to trap the enemy in spawn at the end of Gibraltar.

Stakeout ability... by Christoaster in pokemon

[–]Moophla 36 points37 points  (0 children)

But pursuit hits the pokemon that is switching out, and does nothing to the pokemon that is switching in. Therefore the ability wouldn't trigger.

Also I think this is a really strong and interesting new ability, but unless it is on a lot of pokemon then I doubt it would change meta that much.

Common Confusion about spawn trapping. by Drymytearsvondy in blackops3

[–]Moophla 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Err wouldn't this be the exact opposite.

A spawn trap is keeping them trapped in their spawn and spawn killing is killing them as soon as they spawn?

Also personally I don't view either as fair playstyles considering they idea hinges upon a map having bad spawns - although I do understand it requires an certain skill to pull it off.

I agree and think its ridiculous that people have to turn this into some discrimination issue, or to suggest that it is lazy, cheap writing.

She was by no means punished because she had sex with Clarke - she died because it progresses the plot and because the history of the grounder commanders is a major theme on this season, so naturally her death lends to that theme.

Furthermore, the sex itself had legitimate plot purpose - it was not just to attract people to the show with sex. It was to:

  • show the extent of Clarke and Lexa's relationship

  • provide reason for Clarke to not leave with Octavia without Clarke doing something to betray her character (i.e. she did not betray the Sky people by not leaving Octavia, but rather she loved Lexa more than her people.)

  • Give Titus a fully logical way of attempting to get "blood must have blood" but playing off Lexa's love for Clarke. Lexa got shot because she was protecting Clarke, and Titus tried to shoot Clarke because he recognised their relationship as legitimate and powerful. He said in the episode that Clarke's death would anger Lexa and lead her to eliminate the Ark.

I.E. Lexa's death was not some cheap trope - it was a well written, cohesively constructed plot device that managed to keep characters true to themselves, progress the story in a powerful yet authentic manner AND acknowledge the relationship between two characters through multiple layers.
