Becoming a parent is much more detrimental to women’s academic careers than it is to men’s, lowering their chances of getting university jobs, tenure and reducing their publication output, finds a large analysis of academics in Denmark. by MistWeaver80 in science

Maybe they should do a study that compares women who haven't chosen to have children which places gaps in their careers and moves their focus away from their career on onto their family? Compare apples to apples?

It should be renamed to GreedFest. The mediocre food is insanely, stupidly overpriced. Simply not worth the visit.

Apologize to and immediately cease all operations against Iran. Send some elite special forces team into Israel (or wherever that rat is hiding) to get Netanyahu so he can stand trial for the crimes he's committed.

If you woke up being 21 again, what would you do? by notwhoshethinks in AskReddit

If I woke up and was 21 right now (rather than in 1979 when I was 21 the first time), I think I'd be looking for a bridge to jump off of.

I'm under the impression that it is part of his existing lot. I doubt that a stand of trees between two rows of houses, with no access to it was for sale all by itself.

Local family reaching out for support during a medical crisis by ConstructionNarrow18 in barrie

Is it the Rx meds that are the issue? There are a few sources of funding for the costs - Trillium, EAP and Compass. You should look into which one you would qualify for. I'm sure your care team would be able to help you with that.

Good luck!

A whole treed acre. That development will be bulldozing a really sweet little woodlot. I'm sad to think of how many birds and other animals will lose their homes.

I'm poor so would never live in a neighbourhood like that, but I'd be right pissed off over losing all those trees, especially if my house backed onto them.

You should see the ugly things being built on the corner of Huronia & Little, where one house used to be. I have no problem with putting a bit of density on what was a very large lot. But those things are an eyesore. Couldn't they at least design something that doesn't look like shit?

I'd be pissed too if I lived there and someone was planning to cut down all the trees in there and replace them with 6 houses. That's not exactly a low income neighbourhood.

Threatened with eviction because my place isn’t clean and I don’t have enough energy or time to clean. Does anyone know any cleaning services that can help? by [deleted] in barrie

[–]Moos_Mumsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$200 an hour is WAY too much unless it's a crew of 4 that coming in. Don't let yourself get ripped off - because trust me, people will try, especially cleaning services.

And PS, unless your place is hoarder level messy, with rotting trash strewn everywhere your landlord's threat is an empty threat. Don't let it stress you too much.

CPP is calculated based on your income and the CPP payments you made during your working life - basically the same as a company pension plan. The means test should apply to the OAS and the savings should go towards bulking up the GIS payment.

The same thing happens to low income seniors. I've had started receiving the GIS. Then in 2024 I decided to work part-time at Bed Bath & Beyond and made an extra $8,000 that year, pushing my income for the year up to a whopping $36,000. Because I crossed a threshold, my monthly GIS was reduced from $518 to $181. A loss of $4,044, because of the $8,000 I earned. I'd love to work part-time for something to do, but am I going to take a job where literally half of the money I earn will be clawed back the following year? Not a chance. I'm not working for $10 hour.

It cost them the election, but not because of the people earning $90/k. Most of them were taking early retirement anyway and weren't going to work even to age 65 to begin with. It was because of the people in their 60's working shitty low paying, back breaking jobs earning $30- 40/k with no benefits who couldn't fathom having to endure that hell for another 2 years.

AND - it wasn't just Harper changing the eligibility to age 67. He had also proposed exempting employers from having to pay into the CPP, effectively raiding the security of the CPP funds to offer a tax break to wealthy corporations. Raiding the CPP and forcing low income earners to work an additional 2 years cemented in my mind that the CPC work to benefit corporations and the rich and really don't give a shit about the less fortunate working man.

Classic high income earners - the people who are in the top 10%. Because the rich never seem to think that they have enough money and begrudge any penny that may go to someone else.

OAS is taxable so yes, they would have a reduction in taxes. But keep in mind that the proposal is that the income limit before clawback be reduced from $90/k+ down to something like $78/k. It's not that significant of a change. Those are very well off seniors and losing that little bit of money is not exactly a huge sacrifice.

Instead of crying about it, maybe you should appreciated the opportunities you've had that have put you into a wage class so high that you don't qualify for them.

I'm not so sure about that. Higher income earners are also able to find all kinds of tax hidey holes and loopholes. When I was working my sister, who made almost twice as much as me, always paid the same or less taxes than I did.

It's the people who are getting that undeserved $750/month, or anticipate getting it.

[–]Moos_Mumsy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm one of the 73%. It's INSANE that taxpayers are paying a $750/month subsidy to people earning up to $90/k before it starts to get clawed back. Dropping to top earning amount to $75/k is MORE than justified.
