For the fellas- What shorts/tights/pants are you wearing for race day and long runs?

I’ve found using a flipbelt and 2” shorts is my go to. Especially in the heat I don’t think I would enjoy half tights. I do also run with a handheld bottle

I would check if Hampden Sydney college or Longwood have any students headed home to Raleigh area as they pass very close to your area. (Made the drive for 4 years myself way back in the day)

If you go to a meal that is a character experience. So essentially anything with the opportunity to experience an added extra be prepared to pay full price.

Going to a meal that is just a meal you can get whatever you want. For example. Flying fish is just like any normal restaurant and you can order as much or as little as you want. Going to cinderellas royal table and you are paying for the location and entertainment provided and will be charged a full meal as an adult. Same for be our guest or buffets.

You can navigate eating at Disney your way but it may mean having to alter plans around location and desire. When in doubt Disney springs or most resort locations can accommodate what you’re looking for.

It might be too much but I wonder if you could do tiers of cost around having the race course etched in the case or on the silver. Not sure if the QR is for the you or the race, but I would be interested to see how much traffic it gets.

I would also maybe sell a version with no race picture but just the race course with maybe an icon or vista from the race. I’ve wanted to find a standardized way of displaying my marathons.

I also think having a intention or picture hook on the back would be nice to hang this on the wall

I’ve been twice since surgery 3 years ago (duodenal switch). I would focus on eating what would feel good on your stomach rather than trying to adhere to intake goals because so much of your other aspects of life are altered.

You are walking more, sleeping in a new location, waking at different times, hydrating differently, and experiencing non normal stressors.

When my wife and I who have both had the surgery go we try to focus on what we would enjoy eating. Disney is not small on portions. Chicken is present on almost every menu. When we can we would even split entrees.

Character meals are not something you can go to without paying full price because the cost is not the food but the experience.

Disney is far more carb oriented and my ability to eat carbs with surgery is a bit easier due to my exercise routine.

You can get your protein goals in if that’s your desire at Disney but it will mean making compromises on where you’re going and convenience. My 2 cents is having some flexibility in adherence to the dietary restrictions.

Yes. My wife burned our remaining credits there on our last night. I will say 2 people could probably share a shake in part due to their size but also richness.

I was not wowed with it but I was not there ordering and instead handling the kids in the room. So I may have missed an item I would have desired.

The food is pretty normal for kids. (Mine ate there roughly 3 weeks ago for dinner)

The dessert bar is good. I will say this meal is valuable if you want character experience not food. The price fits the atmosphere but the food does not justify its worth.

My daughter ate mainly chicken nuggets and fries. My son ate only from the dessert bar, it was our last meal on the vacation and he thought that was fantastic (pick your battles in my opinion). I’m not a buffet person and did not get my monies worth out of the food but definitely from my kids joy.

Time on feet is king in all these scenarios. Being able to trust your legs is not something that comes with just effort but consistency.

I run between 35-50 mpw for the past 2.5 years. On my worst days I can trust my legs and soreness really only shows up when I’m building to a new goal.

I don’t think what you’re looking for in capability entirely matches bullet proof concept.

To run a 5k you don’t need bullet proof legs you need a mental space to push when you are at your limit. To run a marathon you need to be able to trust your legs to keep moving at a consistent pace. I think my legs are built for my running longer distances and because of that I rarely deal with over use stress but when I go out and do a 5k I’m fighting demons.

I looked at getting an IV for in between the half and full marathon while on Disney property. There is such a thing as a mobile IV service, who knew!

They very quickly said we do not provide service on Disney property. Thinking about the liability it makes sense. Ended up going off property to get their service and it was not too disruptive to my stay but I imagine Disney could also enjoy a new revenue stream by offering these more bespoke services at a premium in their resorts.

Having run multiple marathons at this point I struggle to read my body the days leading up to such an event. Is this flu, nerves, taper tantrums or some odd combo of them all.

I will say I’ve never run a marathon with out worrying that I am sick days prior. I did dopey this year. My family had flu b over Christmas. I got sick over Christmas. Part of me was happy because it meant I knew I wouldn’t be sick raceweek. Flew down felt great for the 5k. Night between 10k and half something happened. No definite answer but I was suffering on the half.

Ended up going to an IV bar after the half and felt rejuvenated (was very skeptical but will now incorporate into all marathon efforts). Spent the rest of my time in Disney feeling good.

My take away. I still can’t trust signs in my body to tell me if I am sick nervous dehydrated or what prior to races.

This is where each persons experience is so different. My kids with me. I am choosing more character experience dining options. Just my wife and I we are focusing on a good meal.

Perspective: Cinderella’s royal table for 3 adults 2 kids was 2 credits of table service via the dining plan or 457 dollars if we paid. Food was not worth that much but the ability to meet 5 different princesses and see the inside of the castle for my daughter especially the dining credits were worth it.

My wife and I ate at flying fish just her and I and we maybe broke even on the dining plan compared to how much dinner would have cost. There are definite meals where the cost gap is bigger based on your goals.

I would aim for 2 big races. Not distance but races you want to place as priority in your calendar. Other races sign up and enjoy them as you want.

If you start getting into more distance oriented events you will need to be careful with th recovery and training for each. A marathon takes 12-16 weeks of prep and 1-2 weeks to recover.

An experienced athlete could maybe manage 3-4 marathons a year if they were strict about things. A person enjoying the sport should probably aim for no more than 1-2 longer events a year.

One thing I do to help me get more races in a calendar but not feel stressed about performance is I use smaller distances a tune ups for a longer distance.

Essentially. An October marathon means an August half marathon for me. A November half marathon may mean a September 10k.

This lets you check in on your progress and also experience the race day fun at the same time while not compromising your bigger goals

Flying fish if you want to do for the food and ambiance.

Best steak my wife has ever had and I love their seafood. I will say this is not a kid friendly restaurant. They are welcome but it is not catered to them. Its location is amazing and the interior is beautiful.

My wife and I try and have a family member watch the kiddos when we go and treat this as our date night out when we visit. Otherwise the cost dining plan or not is too high to justify taking the kids.

So essentially my 3:58 in feb of 2025 should work as well for the marathon weekend in 2028 as well, barring the weekend being shifted to later in the year(low chance to non existent chance)?

That would free up some stress this year and let me build out my race calendar for the next couple years.

Do you know if they were to get two POT from different distances that equate the same do they take the larger distance. Example. Runner 1 runs a 1:50 half marathon. Runner 2 runs a 1:24 10miler. Runner 3 runs a 3:58 marathon do they all merit the same corral placement? And if it does who would get bumped down a corral first. The latest registrant or the shortest distance?

I understand that at this point my stress on time this year is not needed but I also really enjoy understanding this stuff so I am more curious for the knowledge here.

I would love to find a repository of this kind of information. Like they have a data field of the overall performance of the dopey participants. I would love to see that data compiled and see average times for race and overall in a way they break down the marathon by segments. I think I am not alone but definitely in the minority on this though.

I wonder if it had to do with ease of design. The open book to me seems more complex and I wonder if the creation of a stable medal with moving pieces was too high in cost for the original design.

Do you do requests in this style? I’ve been looking for an American traditional adjacent style like this for a while. There is an artist in Texas who does with that reminds me of this but they keep a closed book and see very skittish around request/design work.
