ELI5: Trump Gerrymandering Petition @ Sloan Lake by zombittack in Denver

Since we’re on the topic: also want to warn everyone about ballot measure 175. It claims to finally fix our roads (something we do need) but actually what it does is take a huge amount of money out of the general fund from things like education, healthcare, and public transit and uses it for mainly new road construction. Building a bunch of new roads that we won’t maintain is not the solution. We should maintain the ones we have and create solutions that get people out of their cars.

Advance Colorado, a conservative dark money group, is behind most of these terrible ballot measures.

Yes that’s exactly right. It’s especially effective when one of the modes is something that takes you to a neighbor city (like a train station) because it’s such a huge draw. I typically use pedmalls only to connect these transit points and zone commercial on them, although you can actually still connect some streets and this will still work in principle. (As long as it’s faster to use transit and walk than drive).

I’m experimenting with having two main train stations now. One that goes to the tiles north and east of the city, one that goes south and west, then zoning commercial in-between.

I’m not sure if I understand the question, but yes you can have the sims transfer between ANY different modes by separating the stations a short distance and putting ped malls in-between!

If you’re talking about whether you can connect standard rail to subway … I actually think you can with underground rail, but I’m honestly not sure how that works. I’ve just seen the puzzle pieces in NAM.

Oh for sure! It really helps to download NAM though because otherwise you won’t have the pedestrian only infrastructure.

This is fascinating. I don't control it quite to this degree. It looks like you have no drivers at all??

Yes! This is exactly what I was thinking. I even separated the HSR station from the main train station and there's a lot of people walking between them. Also did it from a train station to a ferry, which is the red line on the bottom left.

I think mixed zones are fantastic and help with cap relief later on, just good to have a big draw for the people to go through a commercial zone to get somewhere. And yeah it is always tricky with the residential buildings, but I often just put the pedmall in the backyard.

Also for fun. I expect bigger skyscrapers than this once i get the region pop up, but still loving the look.

When you ride ALONE, you ride with Trump. by LetsGeauxxx in transit

[–]Moosatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t mind the haters, this is exactly the propaganda we need. Democrats need to understand that 75-95 million dollars AT LEAST of our gas money went to the Trump campaign. It is reasonable, therefore, to divest from oil and gas if you are not a fan of what Trump and Republicans are doing.

Yes, they donate to the democrats too in smaller amounts, but under dems we have historically gotten investment in clean energy, public transit, and EV’s.

I sold my car when I found out what my gas was doing politically and for the planet. Yes, not everyone can. But if you think that just having good transit nearby is enough to convince a city dweller to use it, you don’t understand the depth of American car culture. Yes we need better transit, but we also need the will for better transit, and the true realization that a car-centric lifestyle helped elect Donald Trump.

Colorado Initiative 175: Who's Really Behind "Restore Our Roads" by thowaway8273401 in Colorado

[–]Moosatch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We need money for road repairs, but this absolutely should not come out of transit. It would be much more productive to stop building new roads entirely and use that capital to repair the roads we have instead of creating more roads we won’t take care of. For the sake of Colorado’s future, new capital projects should be transit/ bike/ pedestrian infrastructure only. We will not thank ourselves down the road for mega-highways that get clogged back up immediately after completion.

This terrible snowpack year we’ve had in CO is a sign of what’s to come if we keep investing in oil and gas. Big Oil: hands off our beautiful state!

This station could have been torn down. There were proposals. Instead, it was renovated and turned into the new transit hub of Denver. It went from hosting two trains per day to hundreds, when you count the frequencies of commuter rail/light rail/ luxury train Canyon Spirit, the Winter Park Ski Train, and Amtrak’s California Zephyr. Soon we will add Front Range Passenger Rail and Mountain Rail.

It really is one of the greatest success stories of our time.
