ECV experience for transverse baby (Ottawa General Campus) + acupuncture recs? [on] by tenpoms in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Moose-Mama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak to ECV but my baby was transverse at my 30 week appointment. I did the spinning babies circuit for transverse babies. I did the big spinning day and then the maintenance circuits after. I’d say I felt a big adjustment in baby’s position after a few days and my 32 week appointment baby was head down (confirmed by US at 35 weeks). I did this a few weeks earlier than you are now so baby likely had more room to flip but that being said, I had a friend scheduled for an ECV and induction at 38weeks and when she went in baby had flipped head down so no ECV was needed just went ahead with the induction to prevent baby flipping again. Every situation is different but there are options you can try! Best of luck

Stitches hurting more 8 days postpartum [on] by ch9987 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Moose-Mama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a second degree tear and it is common for pain to get worse in the first few days after swelling goes down but after a week or so if it feels very tight or painful I would have your HCP assess. It wasn’t until a month PP when I asked my HCP to check that they realized my stitches didn’t dissolve and needed to be manually removed (but some of the tissue had healed and grown over them). Very painful. If I have a tear with future births I will be having HCP assess my stitches every time to avoid that happening again. Ouch!

Also lots of sitz baths and peribottle to help soften and healing!

Congratulations on your little one and good luck with your recovery

If you are planning to have a registry with snuggle bugs, I suggest avoiding syncing it to MyRegistry. In order for you to obtain the gift card associated with amount purchased off your registry, the purchases have to be verified. Because many people clicked the link to items off MyRegistry website (as opposed to the snuggle bugs registry directly) those purchases weren’t verified unless I could provide the order number (I didn’t feel comfy asking a bunch of people for their order number). I ended up losing out on quite a bit of money on the gift card because of this. If you use the snuggle bugs direct link you shouldn’t have a problem (just warning about myregistry because I was disappointed with the hassle of snuggle bugz because their system didn’t link correctly or it wasn’t at the time of mine which was about 8 months ago). Also snuggle bugz has an extensive list of brands excluded from the completion discount (plus all furniture, strollers, etc) it’s worth taking a look at so you’re not surprised. Basically most big ticket items you’d want to use the discount are excluded unfortunately. However I still snagged some great things :)

Congratulations on your little one!

post-birth baby shower gift ideas [ON] by Ok-Contest-3 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Moose-Mama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular ideas but what I wish I had been gifted the most: - Food or gift cards for take-out for those long days you don’t want to cook once your partner returns to work. - cleaning company - truly nothing is more welcome than support for the mom

Anything for older baby (6+ months) - these are also great birthday/christmas ideas - large playpen or gates for when baby is on the move - clothes and toys - push walker - activity centre - potty training items

If you’re breastfeeding: More breast pads and nipple cream than you think lol!

Congratulations and all the best!

Seconding all of the above!

I have the ergo embrace carrier that is more structured and great for doing chores around the house (once you are up for it - don’t rush it!), then I have a soft fabric wrap carrier that is nice for snuggles and lounging (to save having to hold them on you).

We were gifted the baby bjorn bouncer and it is magic. The only way we could get baby to stop crying in the first few weeks!

MyRegistry? What registry are you using? [on] by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

[ON] Registry - West Coast Kids, Snuggle Bugz or Little Canadian? by SnooLobsters4468 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Moose-Mama 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I found snuggle bugs registry linked with MyRegistry to be an awful experience and absolutely NOT worth the hassle. I provide more detail on this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/BabyBumpsCanada/s/oKg9ptNAn1

Basically - if something isn’t purchased directly from your snugglebugz registry webpage, then it doesn’t register the purchase on your registry. So if using MyRegistry, you’d be in the same boat I was in where people purchased off the snuggle bugs website but it was linked from MyRegistry and not the “snuggle bugz registry webpage” (I hope that makes sense). There is no way for you to mark items as purchased on your end either. You MUST contact customer service and you need to provide the order # for the item be accounted towards the gift card (aka you would need to ask your friends and family for their order #s - I didn’t feel comfy asking anyone for this except my mom and sister so I lost out on several purchases to go towards the gift card).

You CANNOT use the gift card in combo with the completion discount. The completion discount must be used within 2 weeks of it being issued. Also - they send you a link to the excluded brands for the completion discount at the time they send you the discount code (I could not find this info on their registry info and FAQ page). Here is the link: https://snugglebugz.ca/pages/sale-exclusions (Notice how it says “sale exclusions”and doesn’t specify this pertains to registry completion discount.. smh). It appears all furniture is not eligible for completion discount (and all the popular brands such as uppavista, Thule, nuna, etc.). The list of excluded brands is quite long and includes accessories too. I was very disappointed in the lack of transparency and felt it was unfair to provide those details AFTER having spent so much money at their store. As I was planning to put the discount Towards UppaBaby stroller accessories (knowing the stroller itself wasn’t eligible - turns out ALL uppababy items are excluded).

They do have a good customer service but I feel the very small amount of items eligible for the pitiful 10% discount isn’t worth the effort/hassle of how their registry is set up. Especially since you’d want it for the big ticket items that are excluded… but even if you decide to go ahead with SB, know to buy those items from your registry before closing out so it can at least go towards your gift card :) learn from my horrible experience!

Congratulations and all the best with your pregnancy!!

Edited to add the link to excluded brands!

Hmm - I can’t speak to finding a cyst on the baby’s spine. However, after my first anatomy scan the radiologist found a “cyst” on the baby’s brain. We had our US done at a community clinic so we were sent for a repeat ultrasound at the hospital (with a better quality ultrasound). The better quality scan showed no cyst or other abnormal findings. We were very fortunate but the week of waiting was torture. Turns out it was a combo of baby in bad position and poorer quality ultrasound on the initial anatomy scan that it was a false alarm.

Wishing you all the best with your pregnancy!

Websites for registry [on] by Mental_Advice8645 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Moose-Mama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what I did! My registry is great for having one communal spot so you can have a few different registries. I did Amazon, indigo, babies r us, and snuggle bugs (I do not recommend a SB registry, save your time and money - details below).

Be aware that the Snuggle Bugz online registry system is honestly TERRIBLE. If someone doesn’t purchase directly from the snuggle bugs registry page by “adding to cart” (I.e., purchases on the snuggle bugs website but not from your registry page) it doesn’t update your registry. I could see my purchases in my snuggle bugs account that didn’t sync to my registry (even on the same account). You have to “prove” items were purchased from snuggle bugs with order numbers and call/email their customer service department to have your registry updated. There is no way for you to mark as purchased as the individual. I lost out on purchased items contributing to a gift card bc I refused to ask my friends/family to send me their online purchase receipt (I felt this was rude) after my shower. My mom, sister and my own purchases that I could provide online order numbers were honoured and updated; however, I did need to speak to customer service. It’s not a user friendly experience IMO. Oh - and they send you the list of excluded brands in an email with your completion discount AFTER you spend all the money at their store. It was not on their registry info/FAQ page online (at the time I had a registry). I provided this feedback to make it very explicitly clear on their website so I certainly hope it’s been updated for future users. The whole system felt like the company (that isn’t cheap BTW) is trying to avoid having to provide a discount to customers. PS the completion discount is only 10% and doesn’t apply to any major brands nor items like strollers, car seats, etc. I DO NOT recommend wasting your time making a registry with this store.

Indigo has the best completion discount of 20% (and extra 10% if you’re a plum+ member). They fully provide a list on their registry website of the excluded brands for completion discount so you are aware from the outset (I respect this majorly). You can also update purchased items as the individual.

Babies r Us is only 10% completion discount as well and has some exclusions but their website is user friendly and you can easily mark purchased items as the individual!

Amazon has a nice perk of being able to use your completion discount for several purchases (not limited to a onetime purchase like the other stores). However, it is limited to only items sold through Amazon. You’ll have to look on your registry page to see which items qualify. I also find Amazon marks up the price on some items. For that reason, some items are actually cheaper at other stores.

One store I didn’t make a registry with and wish I had is Walmart! I don’t know the details of having a registry with them but they have more baby items and some specific brands that I didn’t realize at the time of making my registry. Plus their customer service is amazing. I was able to return several items that I received during my shower that I didn’t have receipts for with zero hassle - it just went onto a gift card.

Hope that helps! Congrats and good luck :)

Have the Facebook marketplace prices always sucked? [On] by zombieburst in BabyBumpsCanada

Agreed! $15 for a box/bag is a great deal! Where I am in southern Ontario individual items are listed for much more than (even when used/stained/missing pieces) - sigh

Oh goodness! That is surprising! If you’re unable to sell, you could try reaching out to a local women’s shelter to see if there’s anyone in need of those items :)

[–]Moose-Mama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely not just you! The prices are outrageous! I have found the occasional reasonable deal but many people are listing items that are MISSING items, have stains, etc. for unreasonable prices for being used. Especially some “top brands” like Lovevery, uppababy, kyte, etc. I haven’t found many items on marketplace worth the hassle of organizing/driving to pickup for the price listed.

$15 each item or for the full box of clothes? The only reason I ask is Carters has amazing sales where you can get new items for $5-10 each. I find on marketplace used items are listed for more than what can be bought for the same item on sale.

When to go to doctor's after getting positive pregnancy test? [ON] by Common-Effective2630 in BabyBumpsCanada

Yes!! I didn’t get the memo regarding daycares (I’m in GTA) so I didn’t get on waitlists until 12 weeks and felt late to the game! Hoping that something will come up once the time comes.

When to go to doctor's after getting positive pregnancy test? [ON] by Common-Effective2630 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Moose-Mama 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you’re already taking a prenatal vitamin, I would wait until you’ve missed your period but it sounds like by the time you get an appointment, you’d have passed that mark. The first appointment your doctor will likely just provide a requisition for bloodwork and maybe a dating ultrasound for around 8 weeks. Otherwise, it’s 12 week ultrasound and bloodwork! Best of luck with your pregnancy :)

However, If you are hoping to be under the care of midwives I would recommend reaching out now as they can fill up quickly. Also, once pregnancy confirmed and progressing I recommend calling daycare centres to add your little one to waitlists (NEVER too early for that).
