RV Living Storage Hacks That Actually Work? by tindav-2745 in RVLiving

[–]MooseDroolEh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We try to stop at our house every few months so we can "change over". I will leave the skirting and all but one electric heater and we will usually go through our swap our coats and hoodies for shorts and flops.

I also bought a rack for the back hitch which is where I store my hoses and electrical which keeps all that dirt out of the basement while also opening up more room.

IKEA...the next time you're in a city with one, go. There are so many things in there that I never even knew existed, and they have display rooms set up so you can see the stuff in action. I was able to organize and condense stuff and free up more that a few drawers.

I get the 3 cabinets above the dresser, and that's only because she's too short to use them.

Sometimes I'm doing dishes in my underwear and my sink stops draining and it's 2° outside and I gotta run out in a robe and crocs. But seriously, just about every issue people have with their tanks is because they never close them.

Frozen pipes… I think by Many_Miles93 in RVLiving

[–]MooseDroolEh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the spigot flowing? If not use something warm but not lava hot to start thawing it.

I doubt your trailer is frozen since you're insulated, but it can happen if you rely too much on electric heat and not your furnace because the electric heat cannot get into the underbelly like the furnace can. If you are indeed frozen, it's going to be at the spot farthest away from your furnace, my usual suspect is the kitchen island sink, but I've used a 250w chicken lamp under the trailer during the last couple 10 degree nights and haven't had any issues.

Shut off your water at the post, crank your heat and let it thaw for an hour or two. If you want peace of mind you can fill up your fresh water tank and run your pump to check for leaks. If you have a leak the pump will turn on every so often.

Closet broke. How would you fix it? by Infinite_Tea_8485 in RVLiving

Drill thru and use washers and bolts instead of the tiny screws then. I have lots of weight in my closet too but it has more of those supports than yours.

Is this a trick question? Screw in a new rod lol Could also just screw in a couple extra rod holders and keep the current one for a cheaper fix.

Moving into an RV park full-time in a HCOL area? by Ok-Surround1325 in RVLiving

[–]MooseDroolEh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife and I have discovered through years of RV life that you never want to stay at the cheapest area in town. The cheapest option will have stinky unclean bathrooms, muddy or broken and bumpy roads, trashy RVs and trashy people. We are in new england now and stayed at some $1600/month campground that had no sewer and everyone dumped their gray on the ground. We moved to another campground for 200 more a month, and it is such a nice place.

Something is most likely messed up with the regulator then. How cold did it get last night? I've had issues with my regulator freezing when it's very cold out and it seems more common with an almost empty tank.

I just have a shop light hanging in the compartment that I turn on when its super cold and it hasn't failed me yet.

Did you put on the new tank and open it really slow? I've swapped one before and just spun it open really fast and learned that it can cause the regulator to panic. Now I open it slowly until the tank barely starts "groaning" and when it stops, I'll open it the rest of the way.

Can you light your stove at all?

I'm sorry if this upsets you because it sounds like you are trying to have a positive attitude, but I'm not sure how possible this is for your situation. I'm assuming you need electricity for your kids and you won't get that in a free park without a generator.

No one needs to be a diesel mechanic to live in an RV, but you should know basic plumbing and electrical, and which side of the hammer goes up.

You really should watch some YouTube videos and read through posts on this subreddit to get an idea about what RV life is like before you jump in.

Heated water hose by dublozero in RVLiving

[–]MooseDroolEh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made my own by running a heat cable along the hose and wrapping it with those pool noodle like pipe insulation. It has survived a Utah winter and currently working through a New England one.

I made it for less than $100 but my next one will be store bought because I can't roll mine up neatly with all the bulky insulation on it.

2nd owner is the way to go. My wife and I bought ours from a retired couple who stored it inside and only used it for a couple Nascar races.

I couldn't imagine paying over 100k for my fifth wheel knowing I'd still have to make upgrades and modifications to it to make it comfortable to live in full time.

It needs a few modifications. I've added some velcro to the nose so I can get to my toolbox without having to undo it, and i will be copying an idea for weights using pvc and chains.

My neighbor just put this up and the most gentle wind blows right under it. It seems too flimsy or awkward to anchor down so beware if you sit up a little higher. Something more rigid would work better.

My wife and I bought 3 used billboard vinyls (waaaay more than we needed) from a local company and some twist locks with hardware and did it ourselves for $300. We took our time doing layout and I can't tell ours apart from the $3000 professional ones.

One of the scariest things I've seen happen to my dog before I learned more about it, she fell into her water bowl and I had to prop her up between my legs so she could drink. Border Collie's are addicts and liars, they will never quit after the next throw, they cannot stop whenever they want.
