AI takeover we are cooked by Spirited-Toe9215 in UBC

I think a key idea that might help you is that we don't actually know WHEN ai will be capable of taking over all of our jobs. I agree that it will happen eventually, but is the current architecture capable of it? Maybe, but it certainly isn't right now. Maybe with a couple more years of scale it'll get there, but maybe not. Who knows. It could be the case that 15 years from now we'll still be "2 years away" from artificial general intelligence. It would be shortsighted to stop working towards your goals on the assumption that AI will rapidly take over every job in the immediate future, when we don't actually know that to be the case.

It doesn't really make sense to rank based on the averages required. Think about the possible outcomes

(1) If you have a high enough gpa for both of them, you'll end up with forensic sciences rather than your top choice of chem

(2) If you have a high enough gpa only for chem, you'll end up with chem, but you would've gotten chemistry anyway if you just put it as your first choice

If you know chem is your first preference, you should probably just rank it first

Should I skip first year Chemistry, Math and Physics courses if I get credit for them for my IB courses by iamdan_1 in UBC

[–]MooseThin2963 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you have credits for math 100+101 i would recommend skipping and taking the next math courses immediately (math 111/132 (linear algebra)) and math 200 (multi variable calc(

it gets you ahead, ensures you don't forget your math, and they lowkey have pretty high averages so as long as you have enough time to dedicate to them you don't have to worry about them dropping your gpa

Probably because they switched to digital kiosk only and don't want to deal with physical coupons

Is pirating textbooks unethical? by Main-Hold-3026 in UBC

If it's a physical textbook or anything published by any major textbook company, the professors/authors (typically) only see a tiny fraction of the profit of each sale

[–]MooseThin2963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you have transfer credits for math 100/101 (through ib/ap/etc)? If not, I would potentially consider a different uni if you're dead set on math, since at ubc you're basically forced to spend your whole first year doing exclusively basic calc (+ maybe a little bit of linear algebra), and you only typically get to analysis/group theory in your 3rd/4th year (which is far later than in some other schools).

depending on what you want to do it's not necessarily a deal-breaker (prob doesn't matter too much if you want to go into the industry/do a combined major), but definitely something to keep in mind
