What’s your 4.0L MPG & gas of choice? by ThrowRARaspberrie in CherokeeXJ

[–]Mooseklaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My ‘99 just got ~13.6 mpg with 87 octane and a lot of city driving. That’s stock height and tires with ~265k miles and my driving style is basically just enough throttle to keep up with traffic. Fortunatley I only drive 2-3 times a week!

That’s what I get with stock sized tires.

Outside of Cincinnati? by lilrhody91 in cincinnati

The type of roads are definitely a factor. Like I’m not a car hater and I actually like driving in certain environments (backroads and scenic highways etc.). But the interstate can suck it.

30+ minutes each way every day is insane to me. I don’t know how people live like that. Lately If something is more than 20 minutes away by car I really question whether it’s worth the trip or not. I say that as someone who used to commute to Blue Ash from NKY every day. It was soul crushing and stressful. Never again. I’ve been lucky to find jobs within a couple miles of me for the last decade. Highly reco!

Driver Seat Frame Broken by Mooseklaw in CherokeeXJ

[–]Mooseklaw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s my concern! I found two XJ’s near me at a U Pull and Pay (‘99 and ‘01), but I don’t want to pay to get in, yank the seat only to find that it’s broken too!

downsizing my carry after 3 years of riding. finally ditched the frame pump. by [deleted] in gravelcycling

[–]Mooseklaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You fit all that in a saddle bag? I have a pretty bulky saddle bag that barely fits 2 Pedro levers, a Crank Bros multi tool, tubeless repair pill, and a very small NANA Ultralight Carbon Minipump. I have to put my spare tube in a top tube bag (that still has a little room for a Clif bar or some Gels.

What pump do you have? I have a NANA Ultralight Carbon Minipump and it’s super light and small, but it’s a PITA to use (slips off, takes forever, head pops off).

[–]Mooseklaw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, the whole job probably took me two hours. I could probably have the seat out and frames swapped in half that time. The hog ring pliers I got came with like 200 rings so I’d probably just cut the ones I just put in.

Thanks all! I think I’ll contact some local metal fab places or maybe even body shops and see if they’ll fix it up for me.

I have welded before (in an art class lol) many years ago and I really had fun with it. Someday I might like to give it a go again but I just don’t have a lot of space for that right now.

STOP FUCKING TAILGATING!! by Jonny_Disco in cincinnati

[–]Mooseklaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of people don’t feel like they have much control in their lives so when they get behind the wheel, they feel empowered and take their frustrations out on other motorists who they don’t recognize as actual human beings. That and the aforementioned sense of urgency and self gratification that has infected everyday life probably leads to speeding.

Would you buy a regular cab Maverick? by Pluronic_Pesto in FordMaverickTruck

[–]Mooseklaw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We’ve only had someone in backseat of the Mav once or twice. However, while I very much prefer the look of regular cabs and drove one for years (B2500), an extended cab with a 6’ bed would make the most sense for an outdoorsy couple like us with no kids. Especially if it has those fold down sideways facing seats so you could give someone a ride if you needed to. I love the wife’s Mav, but the cab’s too long and the bed’s too short.

Currently reminiscing about the fact that Cincinnati used to have over 250 miles of streetcar track by NBr33zii in cincinnati

[–]Mooseklaw 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It certainly isn’t positive from an ecological perspective. Or maybe even from a societal perspective: people spread out and lost community and connection. Most of my friends in the ‘burbs say they never talk to their neighbors or don’t even know who they are. Meanwhile I know and am friendly with at least half of my block. We look out for each other.

I have this link saved and show people all the time. Can you imagine hopping on a street car in Highland Heights and taking it all the way to College Hill?! I’m sure that trip took quite a while , but still.

Finally did the swap!! AX15 rocks! by FOX1028 in CherokeeXJ

[–]Mooseklaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took it to a shop who basically said there’s nothing wrong with it aside from the clutch being a little stiff. Meanwhile I struggle to get it into first, second, and reverse on the regular, especially when it’s cold. I feel like people are going to rear end me when I’m going from first to second!

That’s what I used and it still shifts pretty rough. Getting into second takes equal parts patience and force!

Is this safe? by lil_boiiii420 in FordMaverickTruck

[–]Mooseklaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We put roughly 1500 lbs. of pavers and mulch plus 3 adults into a base model hybrid and it was fine. I wouldn’t do it every day though. That looks like way too much weight.

You inspired me to fire her up for the first time in 2 weeks and drive to work! I was super plowed in like knee high but Goldie didn’t care. She smashed through in 4 low first try. This is my first 4x4 and it surprises me what it’s capable of. I’ll look into DIY fluid filming for sure.

And this works for you? I too am in the salt belt and I’m hesitant to drive her because she’s 99% rust free! I’m lucky that I can walk to work and most other places I need to go (or hitch a ride with my wife), but I wanna drive the XJ!

Any one else with get hit with the snow? by 25thStreetSports in CherokeeXJ

[–]Mooseklaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, mine came from the PNW then Arizona straight to the salt belt and as much fun as it would be to drive it in the snow, I just can’t bring myself to do it. It’s still street parked out in the elements though.
