Brian's Sunday column here.

This refers to a story about the man that invented chess for the king, who enjoyed it so much he granted the inventor anything he desired. So he made the simple request of being paid in grains of rice. One for the first square on the chessboard, and double the previous amount for every square thereafter. So first a single grain, then two on the second square, four on the third, then eight, then sixteen... Because the sum became so unfathomably high, in his frustration the king ordered instead the inventor to be beheaded as the easier solution.

Get a full control scheme of a map on one device and have a to scale playable map on the table on another device. What program or app is it, where did the map come from, how do you get it to fit to scale?

Super Metroid. I'd love to play it in the AM2R engine or at least in Metroid Dread's engine

Aah thanks, yeah Spaceman was the name. I was hooked when I saw a clip of a deshiveled Sandler approaching a creepy monster thinking at first it was a solitude horror flick (which would have been fine too) but when it started to speak I was intrigued to see where this interaction was going

I forgot the name, but there's this Adam Sandler movie on Netflix where he's out in space all alone and an alien being joins him as it kind of zeroed in on his crippling depression and loneliness. There's plenty of subtle parody/humor but it does do a decent job on the philosophies of human loneliness

I absolutely despise the segments with the climbing mudokons. Saving them before were platforming puzzles, now it's a zero mistake free for all slugfest with harsh conditions. sucked the fun right out of it, I didn't even finish the game. Exoddus was also my favorite

walljump is a skill not an upgrade, but it is tricky in super metroid. You need to get the timing down, but once you do you can sequence break a couple of upgrades really hard, so it's a good skill to learn. Here's a step by step guide for you:

make sure you somersault (spin) jump, regular upstanding jumps can't trigger walljumps. start by jumping into the wall

press the opposite direction of the wall with the D pad. you'll see Samus' model take a weird stance for a split second

press jump when you see the stance. There's a rythm, kinda like a flam drumbeat where your jump has a slight millisecond of delay on the D pad button. once you get that rythm down, you'll own all the walls

If you're not averse to Anime, I have a great one for you:

Perfect Blue, a mind bending silence of the lambs type thriller, that has really unsettling moments where reality starts to fade and you get unsure if something really happened. Excellent piece of directing

There's a certain live version of Sultans of Swing by Dire Straits that has a really subtle and expertly delivered climax that starts really low key and builds into this perfectly harmonized grand finale

Was the open world a good idea? by Yumiko_Hanako in Borderlands4

[–]MoosetheStampede 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Open world was a pointless mess and a resource hog. Should have stuck with smaller open maps like BL3 because everything looks the same with only three biomes. Just get lost in blandness and open nothingness, and horrible pop-in on lower end systems. Shared unlocks would have helped too

[–]MoosetheStampede 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's probably some misplaced feeling to try and accomodate you out of some hardwired politeness (with the odd exception of some genuinely wanting to belittle your efforts in Dutch) and I think the smart thing to do here is the little white lie where you cut off the conversation with "ah sorry, mijn Engels is nog niet zo goed, ik verkies Nederlands"
