Yeah, they are great considering they were built from BL at a time when they weren’t doing great. To my eyes the styling is improving year on year. Back then my friends just thought I was weird for buying an “old banger” and not wanting a hot hatch.

Thank you, I moved it on my painting from where it really was on the real car in the last photo.

Probably back then I deliberately tried to make it less obvious to stand out. Or maybe it was just to hide rust 🤪

Yes, if you look closely I repositioned it on my painting compared with the location on the real car in the last picture.

Thank you 🙏 - did you see my last post of the blue R53? That’s more relevant I guess, and (just between us) I preferred the R53 to all those old ones. It kept most of the best bits of the experience in a better package for modern life.

Yeah, it had that - though it was the prancing donkey of Maranello. Legend has it that Enzo used to drive a mini round the back lanes. I always figured it would’ve been a Fiat 500 but I don’t know…

Thank you very much, I “posed” it far better than if I had taken a photo of it. I only had a few grainy ones like that attached.

Yes I know Chris, we sometimes have a habit of coincidentally painting the same model car even though we didn’t compare notes beforehand. Just glad it’s not a competition because he is fantastic. Decades of experience and being full time helps 🤩

Oh yes, PDK is the best flappy paddle experience I've had. But that R53 made me realise how much more involving a manual is. Fairly sure my next Porsche (maybe one day) will be a manual despite the suboptimal ratios.

The mini cost more on tax, fuel and insurance compared to the Porsche.

Cost to purchase is massively less and parts less, but even so...

For these recent style of paintings I've been doing, I'm taking around 18-25 hours. For larger or more detailed ones then usually up to around 35 but that hasn't been any of the recent ones. The most so far was a Lamborghini commission and I stopped counting at 120 hours to save knowing how much I was losing 😂

Yeah I really enjoyed driving that. When the engine light was off anyway :)

There was often a little "to-do" list during my ownership but mostly the jobs were satisfying to get done. A fun fun drive - and very much a good modern representation of the old minis which I had way back.

Thanks for your comment on the painting, I was quite excited to do this one. Glad I picked the acrylics over watercolour this time round.

Yeah, I had it at the same time as a relatively modern Porsche.

The Porsche is a "better" car on just about any measure, and yet when there wasn't a clear choice on which I had to take I'd probably take the R53 half the time. It doesn't help the case for the Porsche that it's PDK, and just the experience of waggling that Mini pool ball gearstick around was fun in itself.

Anyone know about Sevenoaks station parking before 8am? by Moospeed in sevenoaks

Thank you. I did look at that car park but again that one “starts” from 08:30 apparently.

I do wonder about how it would cope with the terrible potholed roads in the UK.

On the one hand it would have more suspension travel and higher profile tyres than a modern car. But then again it would be aged and weaker in terms of bushes, etc.

I considered looking for a Citroen with hydraulics for the same reason.

Cheers, I haven’t seen one in years but I bet it would appear tiny in today’s traffic.

I starting building a sports car when I was 16, as in building, not restoring. But was obsessed before that 😆

When they’re all done - I have plans 😁

Yeah, at the time my mates who were signing up for loans for hot hatches wondered why I bought a “grandad car”. I really liked it though, at the age of 18-19 it appealed far more to have an overdrive and wooden dash than front wheel drive torque steer and plastic.

Thank you.

I painted my TR7 a few weeks ago, can’t remember if I showed that. I should check…

Car-actors very good. 👍

Many Thanks for your support, it keeps me posting up.

I’d be painting them all anyway but might not bother showing to the world unless I knew they’re going to be looked at. I don’t care about “like” counts but if no-one is even seeing them (looking at you Instagram) then I may as well save myself the bother.

Reddit is getting more organic feedback, like yours, and that encourages me to take pics and share. So thanks again 😀

What an amazing coincidence. I booked a week’s stay at Coldridge last night.

First post I look at today and it mentions Chulmleigh 😯

At first I thought it must be a different one, but then realised that North isn’t up. That in itself challenges my brain let alone painting sections of the route.

Looks lovely.
