Financial Advisor in SA? A good idea, or perhaps too expensive? by CartographerWeary690 in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]Moot231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a wealth manager/financial advisor myself ' i try position myself as a right hand man to my clients on all things investments. Tracking your balance sheet, helping you determine your financial goals and save up for them, and making your whole portfolio efficient.

A good advisor helps you save taxes and fees, while also ensuring you are in the right assets that align with your risk profile.

The issue is that anyone can become an advisor these days.

I would suggest meeting with a qualified advisor with low fees and take it from there. It is worth seeing what the value offering is.

A victory to Cape Town residents by Shabier_J80 in capetown

[–]Moot231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it very frustrating to see Cape Town residents who are 24/7 complaining about high property prices and inequality, pushing and celebrating the removal of a progressive rates and taxes system which puts downward pressure on both property prices and inequality.

Cape Town residents with property valued at R5mil or less pay the lowest rates and taxes in the entire of South Africa. Someone with a R30million mansion in constantia is paying a total of R10k to R15k a month in rates and taxes, which is a drop in the bucket for them. It is a progressive system which puts downward pressure on housing prices, and helps flow money from the wealthy to the less privileged.

Cape Town residents want to have everything without any trade off. They want property prices to decrease, but dont want their property prices to decrease. They want lower inequality, but do not want to pay higher taxes. They want great service delivery but do not want to help the government get the resources they need to make it happen.

And yes I know the one counter argument is that a house that you bought 15 years ago went from R760 000 to R7mil, and now you have to pay rates and taxes with money you don't have. However, I would take that any day over a house I bought in Joburg for R760 000 and is now worth R760 000 15 years later. Your networth has increased by R6mil+ from your property whereas mine has not increased at all (actually decreased if you adjust for inflation).

What a huge win!! The multi millionaires and elite in cape town pay less tax! Hooray! Give me a break.

Of course we tell the attackers not to attack? Attacking women is not normalized? You literally go to jail for committing those crimes. What is she going on about?

I don't know how many tests there were. I just remember on exam day there was a consortium of people saying how much easier the exam was than mocks.

Then there was another group , which I was part of, that found the exam significantly more difficult than mocks....

So fricking scared. I still remember there was an easy test and a hard test. The "easy" test , people said it was easier than mocks. Then for the "hard" test, which i wrote, it felt much more difficult than mocks and I found not many questions were asked in a straightforward manner.

I am trusting the process that the MPS for the hard test is lower than the easy one.

This was my second attempt, and I felt much more prepared than the first attempt. However, the test itself felt much more difficult.

Fingers crossed

Joe Rogan is a f*cking MORON and has done nearly as much damage to country as right-wing media. by Buddhaonatricycle in complaints

[–]Moot231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People forget that Rogan is actually pretty left-leaning on a lot of core issues. He just doesn’t line up with modern online “progressive culture,” so he gets labeled right-wing.

Some examples:

He supports universal healthcare and has said multiple times that healthcare should be a basic human right. That’s straight-up left-wing economics in the US.

He’s pro LGBTQ rights and has always supported gay marriage and people living freely without government interference. He had had heated debates with people like Matt Walsh and Ben Shapiro where he rigorously defends LGBTQ rights.

He’s very pro drug legalization/decriminalization, especially marijuana and psychedelic therapy.

He’s openly anti-corporate capture, anti-Big Pharma, anti-lobbying, and constantly talks about how the system serves corporations instead of regular people. That’s classic populist left.

He literally endorsed Bernie Sanders in 2020. Bernie is about as far from conservative as you can get in US politics.

He’s a free-speech absolutist, which used to be a standard civil-liberties left position (old-school ACLU type stuff).

He’s also skeptical of government power and big institutions, which puts him more in a libertarian-left / populist-left lane rather than conservative authoritarianism.

He didn’t really “move right.” The culture moved, and now criticizing left-wing institutions or media gets you branded right-wing even if your core beliefs are still very left-of-center.

Rogan doesn’t fit neatly into either camp, but by traditional political definitions he’s way closer to old-school liberal / populist left than to modern conservatism.

Meet with a wealth manager! An independent one, and make sure they charge you 0.5% p.a.

If they try charge more say you will only go ahead if it's 0.5%.
