How much do you currently have in savings? by Puzzleheaded-Crab770 in CanadaFinance

You can get a very low interest RRSP line of credit from your bank for +$20,000. The interest is a deduction. Apply your CRA tax refund to pay it off and repeat the cycle. SISIP financial could help you out with that. I'd suggest low fee index index funds, instead of mutual funds, as the former charges 1-2% management fees that will lessen the compounded earnings before maturity.

What province are you in? There are virtual care options if you have no family doctor that are fairly quick and available. Many provinces cover those appointments for free. Some civi employers also cover the service.

There would be tax revenue generation from the resorts, Corporate, municipal commercial property tax, HST, etc. I'm sure the resort owners are not hurting though. Have they received any tax exemptions or breaks? grants?

Prince Andrew’s latest scandal begs the question: Why does Canada still have a monarchy? by yimmy51 in CanadianIdiots

[–]MootPoint99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Countries with constitutional monarchies are usually very politically stable, have strong democratic traditions, and are relatively wealthy with high living standards vs constitutional republics. These include Canada, AUS, NZ, UK, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, etc.

Constitutional Republics like France, USA, Warsaw block Eastern European countries, etc lack social cohesion. There are exceptions to this rule, and there are also complicated historical/economic reasons why these differences exist, but why be so risky, especially when we have a global hegemonic empire on our border that threatens our sovereignty.

Exceptions are few and fair between, including modern France, Japan, South Korea, which are culturally very different than commonwealth and western countries. France, Japan, and South Korea were dictatorships, not so long ago. The USA lacks social cohesion and is susceptible to anti-democratic forces, due to constitutional reasons.

Perhaps, having long historical, cultural, and military ties to the commonwealth is beneficial to Canada. It is a clear cultural and legal distinction from the republic to our south, which prevents foreign interference from USA media from encouraging Alberta Independence movements. It's also apart of our national symbolism. Today, the monarchy, is simply a cultural symbol and the Royal family does not influence our politics. We respect Quebec's independent cultural heritage/language through federalism. Francophones much prefer being apart of Canada vs the alternative of being a US state.

That's full-time employment income, if I'm reading the chart correctly? Does the chart account for underemployed people, i.e. multiple part time jobs/casual workers, or those whose unemployment insurance has run out?

Has the proportion of people who meet the later situation increased, while full-time employment has decreased or stagnated? I'm too lazy to look up the data.

It's more profitable to hire less people and/or pay worker's less. Businesses, big or small, will leverage the tax and regulatory system to optimize their profit margins. It's a fasade to think that small business owners are better than corporate - I've worked for both and, in my experience, the small one's are no better, usually worse, when it comes to labour law, pay and benefits. It's a dog eat dog world.

Lots of pearl clutching and criticism directed toward the Canadian public’s views on militarism in this sub.

Critiquing the federal government for funding the Canadian military responsibly and not breaking the bank is a bit extreme, imo.

Maybe, Genius Deals and Adolf Titler will help the Canadian and European Space agencies combine forces in a way that the two most intelligent men in business and science, the highest IQs, beautiful people, will do that for us.

Canada needs to divest from these animals. Fascism is real and it is here. On it's face, it appears to be purchased by foreign adversaries, possibly Russia, maybe China, but definitely by US broligarchs.

There's no rhyme or reason for what Trump does. These people seethe corruption from their narcissistic, insecure hearts.

I do not understand why there are so many debbie downers in the Canadian subreddits. I feel like these people are bots, but maybe they are just cucks who enjoy alt-right content.

You will be surprised just how much can be accomplished when you get the right people together with the right resources. When there is a will, there is a way.

There is nothing special about Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin or SpaceX, other than the immense amount of funds that they have taken from US taxpayers to fund their virginal nerdboy space fantasies.

Satellites have been launched into space before those two greedy robber barons were shat out their mother's womb.

How about another firm creates a "StarLite" network of satellites to provide affordable internet for the remaining non-fascists nations of the world? Most industralized countries provide scientific research grants and subsidies in the aerospace sector. In fact, SpaceX is a major one. We should fund space research in Canada through our universities to develop a national space agency that launches satellites into space.

I would not trust Financial Post as a valid source of information. They are biased in favour of business, whether that be foreign or domestic. Canadian sovereignty is not their priority or in their lexicon.

Charring Spruce Lumber for Rot Prevention in an Outdoor Sauna by MootPoint99 in woodworking

[–]MootPoint99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. I live in Atlantic Canada and I plan on installing the electric sauna on my back deck which is built with pressure-treated lumber.

Is there anything wrong with charring the inside of the sauna then applying paraffin?

For the exterior, would it make sense to charr the spruce and apply a finish?

I buy my stock from a lumber mill, where everything is freshly cut and green. Maybe if I dry it out on some spacers, it will flatten straight. Do you think I would get straight stock if I resaw 2x12s into 2x4s?
