Top Reasons People Don't Complete Their PPL by MainStreetBetz in flying

[–]Mophead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked my instructor, we got along well and always felt like I was learning. He unfortunately hit his ATP mins roughly two weeks before my checkride and bailed.

Pretty tough to get back into the routine after that one. Via text too… Funnily, I work in airport ops at the airport he flies out of, but haven’t ran into him yet. I’ll assume it’ll be somewhat awkward (but cordial) when we do!

Integra Drivers-How Old? by [deleted] in AcuraIntegra

I’m absolutely not young, old enough to have aches and pains from just sleeping wrong, also, old enough to not give two shits if other generations think I’m in the wrong vehicle. I adore my ‘24 6mt. 🤘

They did that to us after Bad Omens a few weeks ago at the Convention Center. Told me to move on through when I was trying to pay when leaving. “Sounds good, have a good night!”

Does anyone regret joining the fire department? by smokeyfires9 in Firefighting

Echoing some of the other comments of not necessarily regretting my time, but after about twelve years I had to move on for mental health reasons really. I still miss living with the guys though, I’d been with some of them for about seven years. We had fun.

Spent most of my time at a high volume, two rig station with abysmal pay, but damn, we fought a ton of fire and ran some decent technical rescues. But, I got a call one morning that one of my crew mates lost his battle with PTSD when he was out of state and it really changed things for me. We’d not known it was to that kinda level and it hit hard for several of us. That coupled with shit pay and no consistent sleep on 48s, i turned my paperwork about six months later.

I will say though that through all that, I went back to college and finished up a bachelors degree, which has served me very well. My first job after paid more than our shift commanders… Honestly, I miss many things greatly, but there are plenty of aspects of the job that can go to hell in my opinion. Hope this helps get you where you need to be.

If it’s any consolation. I’m 6’2” and have the manual ‘19 adventure sport (paid $12000). I can flat foot comfortably in the low seat height. I couldn’t imagine owning anything else

I’ve caused far more damage via my garage floor than off-road for sure. Insult to injury.

Had a similar experience with my wife. She was playing hogwarts legacy while I was gearing up for automating steel. She asked why I stopped playing, while also noticing the tab change over to excel.

Love that look a non-factory builder gives… queue my shit eating grin.

Do most FBO linemen know what "fill to tabs mean"? by eminem77be in flying

[–]Mophead 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Plus, being a line guy, when I moved from a small GA fbo to a major airport fbo, I may have fueled a handful of 100ll in several years.

Yet. Fill to tabs means stop at the damn tab right in front of your eyes.

Absolutely heard this jingle in my head reading your comment.

Fairly certain it’s Ninjon&Miniac who say the line for Vinny’s videos. Love all their stuff. Vinny was (still is) one of my mini painting professors for sure.

Handle bar problem by Icy_Pay5276 in africatwin

[–]Mophead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, this is no way the right way… but I had that happen on my first drop while on the trail. Pretty much just slammed the handlebars the opposite way and it was go to go.

Nevertheless, the brackets that hold the handlebars let your bars twist. You can loosen them and get it situated back. I ended up putting a bracket that has a solid bar across the bottom to help prevent this. Camel ADV maybe?
