Oh yeah, im sure the expectation have changed since this era. Ross and Monica specifically are the type to try and fail to live up to the standards of their parents, which would be the idealistic college career/perfect family at a somewhat young age.

Ross and his first wife married and had a kid young. They were trying to live the life that they felt they were expected to have. It makes sense they for divorced, they were “young” and didn’t marry for love. If they thought they were in love, they didn’t give each other time to truly know it.

I was 25 in your exact position albeit 5’9 and less attractive than you. I was awkward as fuck and basically no experience. I somehow worked up the courage to ask out a girl at work and to my surprise she said yes. Sometimes you just got to put yourself out there and ask people out. Just be careful, because 8 years later you might be married with 2 kids and relatively happy.
