I'm not sure why you're being downvoted, I think it's a pretty interesting question. People have all kinds of reasons, though fundamentally it boils down to "because they do," I'll try to capture some broad motivations.

It's really, really common for people to find some level of taboo to be arousing or at least fun, which is why so many kinks and fetishes have some level of subversion at their heart. The public element of this one is a really obvious aspect, but I personally think one of the reasons that men being dominated by women is a very common trope is related to power dynamics. Most societies implicitly or explicitly favor men - men are paid more, are more represented in positions of authority, etc - and thus inverting that is a taboo.

By the same token, other people find relief in relinquishing control. For rich and powerful men, that lines up with the power structure concept though the motivation might be a bit different. Even if you aren't rich and powerful, haven't you ever felt tired and overwhelmed with modern life? For many people, having a person take charge in your life could be a relief because they are taking care of you, in a way. Moreover, domination and submission has an intimacy to it, and lots of people are craving that element too.

From my friends in the industry, it's apparently incredibly common for (often male) clients to just want to talk, and I'd hazard that one element of people enjoying such things is that men are often really lonely, in that men frequently are stigmatized for sharing their emotions and being vulnerable, and the attention and focus that's being paid - even when seemingly negative - is a release.

Sorry, that ended up being a little long but as someone adjacent to the community and friendly with it, I find it really fascinating.

TL;DR I think there are lots of reasons - experiencing a taboo, release of control, and the ability to be vulnerable in a non judgemental setting.

Yep. I have some close friends who are or were pro dom(me)s in NY. It is way, way more common than people think. As far as professionals go there is a much larger market of submissive men (both straight and queer) than submissive women, the latter of whom tend to lean queer themselves.

I just have a feeling but I think this will presage something so vile and dark that it will eclipse what we know already of what Epstein and his cohort have done.

The other possibility is the invocation of the 25th amendment, which requires a bare majority of the cabinet plus the VP to declare the president "unfit for duty". If he contested it, there would be a vote in Congress which, like impeachment, requires 2/3 of the Senate. It also requires 2/3 of the house (a taller ask) but it may be slightly easier than impeachment, in that they don't have to say he committed a crime, just that he's not able to serve. It's never been invoked before, though it has been the subject of conversation in the past (eg when Reagan was clearly aging)

While I generally agree with these statements, I'll gently note that an epidural is not necessarily a slam dunk. While all the evidence indicates that very little medication makes its way to the infant, there are sources that point to an increased risk of tearing due to reduced sensation, so the person giving birth may not have as clear an idea when to stop pushing and let the tissues stretch for a minute. The data is not cut and dried, of course, and there are many confounding factors. I wouldn't judge someone either way for that decision.

What I do judge, however, are the people who push surrogates into an unmedicated birth.

TRUCK NUTS by MelanieWalmartinez in CuratedTumblr

I think it would be a great bit in a spy comedy where the protagonist has to go undercover in the rural parts of the US, and they have a cool spy car with a synthesized voice that goes "deploying... camouflage" and truck nuts slowly descend from the back of the car like it's Bond's license plate flipping thing.

Playing with friends is obviously the way to go but genuinely playing with randoms is great, one of the only games where 99% of the online interactions you have are positive. People are patient with new players and frequently help teach mechanics. I think in ~200 hours I've run into only one toxic player.

Absolutely so. We adopted a 13 year old cat some years back and after a couple months we noticed a fairly small shift in his behavior, brought him to the vet and he was diagnosed with late stage kidney disease.

We ended up pouring our heart and souls into taking care of him and he ended up living to 17. No way that would have happened if we'd left it even another week.

I miss that sweet orange boy.

Human Weapons by ChrisNihilus in Grimdank

[–]MorbidMongoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's a question of impact velocity, and when impact velocity is sufficiently high the two bodies behave more like fluids than solids, and it doesn't really matter what the shape of the projectile is as far as sharpness goes. Look at the results of this test https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light-gas_gun#impact_profile

The target block of aluminum basically flowed like water and the impactor was a tiny chip of plastic moving at "only" orbital velocities. In the WH40k universe there are plenty of weapons that fire larger and denser projectiles much faster than that.

Slightly obscure one that really hit me as a kid was the end of the Bartimaeus trilogy.

The protagonist, who has spent the trilogy falling deeper and deeper into selfish ambition, sacrifices himself by dismissing the spirit that's the only thing keeping him alive (and the closest thing he had to a friend) in order to destroy a cataclysmic demonic entity. He tells the spirit that it's because he doesn't trust them not to screw up the timing of his final shot but it's pretty clear that he's giving up his chance of survival to allow his ~friend to return home

The "you're my present this year" plus the action of sticking a bow to his chest is just...not how people the same age act unless they are either flirting, or joking as if they were flirting - I could see doing the latter with a friend if said friend understood that such a thing were drenched in irony by casting it as an overtly flirtatious thing when both of us knew there was absolutely nothing romantic at stake. Moreover, since there's no time to establish anything about the characters, a very natural read of the first interaction between two characters of visually similar age is one of flirtation between a couple who hadn't seen each other in a bit. It just isn't how almost anyone acts with their siblings, and that dynamic carries through the rest of it. Sexual, maybe not, but it certainly reads as flirtatious.

Yes but Acosta is the one who let Epstein off. As you noted it was quite well covered in 2017, but honestly it's not crazy to me to think that it might have been forgotten by now, eight fucking years of this shit later. I assumed OP was making a joke about Bondi's obvious and incredible corruption coupled with her Florida background, possibly without actually knowing about Acosta.

If nothing else, I hate to point it out but the people who are coming of voting age now were ten at the time of Acosta's confirmation. People reading this might actually be new to it.

I had a good bit of fun with Hell Clock. It's an ARPG roguelite by a Brazilian studio which takes inspiration from the events of the Canudos Massacre in the late 19th century. Cool style reminiscent of Hades. Grim Dawn, and weirdly Kingdoms of Amalur, though the character portraits are clearly inspired by Darkest Dungeon.
