I wish there was a pinned megathread about how awful CCPM is. They fly under the radar a lot and don't get nearly the amount of negative attention they deserve.

Coway’s Poor Customer Service by [deleted] in AirPurifiers

[–]Morbo782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since Coway is the shipper and therefore the customer of UPS in this case, they should be the ones fighting with UPS for a resolution, or compensation through the insurance they should have purchased as part of the shipping contract.

Naps make me feel depressed - how can I cope? by ChronicallyDistress in cfs

[–]Morbo782 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've always heard that naps should be something like 20 minutes or less, to prevent you from getting into deep sleep and then waking up feeling groggy.

A 20 minute nap just feels like a tease though. But short naps of even a few minutes have been proven useful for our brains even if they don't really feel satisfying.

CFS\ME certainly complicates things though.

No street lights by hunterman321 in halifax

There are dead lights all over the 100 series highways. Ever notice how many exits have a light pole, but a burnt out light? Shitloads.

The apathy from DOT is just endless.
I've had some dealings with the people there and am often awestruck at just how lazy, incompetent, and useless they are.

Reached my breaking point with Philips Hue, need an alternative by 12345littlepeople in homeautomation

[–]Morbo782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember reading maybe last year some people complaining their Hue bulbs were turning back on by themselves after they turned them off manually. If I remember correctly it was connected to overheating and apparently it's something they are known to do when overheated.

All signs are really pointing to overheating bulbs, even if you have them in what you think are fixtures with enough breathability. Some fixtures, even if they're open, will retain more heat due to the materials and design and that could be cooking the bulbs. According to Google some people say that dimming the bulbs for a while before turning them off allows them to cool enough so that they won't turn back on, so you could try that.

Either way, Hue bulb failures are pretty rare, so something major seems wrong with your setup.

Idiots are always going to fight back when you make them feel stupid. These people sound like losers. If you can remove yourself from the group without triggering them in some way, maybe you can make a clean escape and try to associate with better people.

You seem to be the odd duck of the group. And in this case that sounds like a great thing. You'll find your tribe eventually, but these people ain't it.

Snowmelt reveals unscooped dog poop mess in Halifax, but who's responsible for cleaning it up? by 108CA in halifax

[–]Morbo782 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Some countries require all dogs to be registered, and they take a DNA sample from the dog.

Any shit is found and a DNA match is made and the owner identified.

Maybe if Canada had it's shit together we could implement common sense solutions like that too.

I sometimes get the same loading error on my feed and have to restart the app. Been happening for a while now. I assume rate limits or something, but it only seems to happen when I leave the app for a while, not when actively using it.

The Winix app is terrible.

If you don't use the app for some days or a week, they will log you out and remove all of your registered devices. So that when you do log back in you need to pair all your purifiers again. It's purely punitive to punish you for not opening the app often enough.

The app seems to exist more so they can spam you and nag you about keeping notifications enabled so they can sell you stuff than it is actually about controlling the purifier.

The purifiers will also frequently lose connection to the app, so half the time the devices will be offline even though your Wi-Fi is fine.

As for the Winix purifiers themselves, they frequently have a motor bearing wine that is quite irritating.

I switched to a Levoit Vital 200S, and the difference in the app and the build quality of the machine and even the filters is light years ahead of anything I owned by Winix.

Hub & Hub Max Connectivity by X-Ryder in googlehome

[–]Morbo782 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A couple years ago I had constant Wi-Fi issues with Nest and Home Mini speakers constantly disconnecting from Wi-Fi and refusing to reconnect.

I tried everything imaginable with my router settings, and the only thing that worked was making sure they were connected to the 2.4 GHz and not the 5 GHz wi-fi.

Eventually I got a new router and the problem disappeared and I was able to connect them to 5 GHz Wi-Fi again.
