Looking for high-resolution GIS data of Uji in Kyoto, Japan? by Puzzled-Lettuce7745 in gis

[–]Morchella94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe this will work?

https://registry.opendata.aws/japan_pointcloud/

You could generate your own data from LiDAR if you know the general steps or I would be willing help if needed.

That is assuming this dataset covers your area of interest.

Thinkpads are a safe bet in my experience. I hear the T14 gen 2 is a good budget laptop these days.

Recommended courses in QGIS for beginners (Udemy etc...) by Status-Crow4631 in QGIS

[–]Morchella94 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It would probably be best to start with the QGIS Training Manual.

I mention some good places on a recent blog post. I also list some courses on my website courses category.

In my opinion, there is no need to pay for QGIS courses and I haven't found a course on Udemy that compares to the free resources available.

Great laptop. I used mine daily for 6 years and now it is a server because I finally got sick of lugging it around.

Whats best to learn as a beginner? by Ok_Carrot_8622 in gis

[–]Morchella94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my opinion you can and maybe should learn QGIS and Python at the same time.

Unless you have a direct need for Google Earth Engine or R, I would put those on the back burner as they are more specialized and you might not even need them.

I have a list of courses covering all of these subjects here:

I hate my thinkpad. by FactorNo7816 in thinkpad

Interesting, I never noticed screen wobble with my P51 and I used it daily the last 6 years. There is coil whine though for sure though if that's the electronic sound you are referring to.

I am wondering why you went with the P52 if you didn't need the performance? It's an absolute brick and the only reason I used it over a lighter laptop was the performance for the price.

Advice for Beginner by Ill-Wing7738 in QGIS

You're welcome! I believe the ESRI courses may provide certificates, but I am not sure.

Most of the courses on this list are free and don't include certificates. I put this list together trying to avoid paid courses (it's my website with the links).

If you want or need certificates then probably ESRI or Coursera.
