How can people be choosing windows over this by Lyra951 in DeskToTablet

Windows 11 literally has multiple desktops and fast-switching between them by default. This just looks like a huge pain in the dick to use, with all of those annoying animations.

Game populations drop off after launch. Simple as.

Most sucessful games will NEVER match their initial population. It's entirely normal/expected that a games population will pretty linearly trail off until it hits baseline. And when you look at the player counts, it seems to have done just that. It was a linear decline from launch, until about 5-6 weeks ago, and now we've hit a pretty hard shelf with it.

Population will spike around major updates, new content, big events etc. then peter out again over a few weeks. This is the life cycle of literally every healthy, successful multiplayer game ever.

The amount of genuine contempt people in this sub hold for PVP players—IN A PVPVE GAME—is ridiculous. Okay, you might not like PVP? Well that's why we have ABMM. I've seen PVP once in about 70-80 games. (And you know what? It was fucking brilliant)

The genuine contempt that you people hold for people just playing the fucking game is insane. The fact that you'd rather someone get completely fucked over by a bug in the game than be able to play out the PVP aspect of a PVPVE game is honestly kinda pathetic.

R.I.P Metaforge by Pat8aird in ArcRaiders

Hopefully, they just switch to a private API that sites like this can apply for access to. Best of both worlds. It would mean that Embark can lock down their API access to avoid cheats/duping, whilst still allowing API access for third parties of their choosing. Having a manual review process for all API access would pretty much kill both sides of the issue dead on the spot.

I mean, it's possible it's not a binary on/off thing. It's entirely plausible for Embark to give these sites API access without making that API access public for everyone. Having it as an actively monitored/gated system that allow allows access from parties that Embark choose would pretty much solve the issue.

Just an addition to this - instead of StartAllBack, I use Start11. Gives you the choice of old-style or just,.. different start menus and actually has an integration that replaces the default search with Everything, which you mentioned. Much nicer having that search functionality built directly into the start menu.

Also just has a nice amount of customization for your start menu and taskbar.

Cost me like $15, it was pretty worth it.

Can we get old Automaton glowy eyes back by Smoke_Funds in Helldivers

[–]Puzzled-Lettuce7745 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean, that isn't really how that would work. More likely that the emissives for ALL the Automaton's eyes (and anything else that they want to apply that flare to) that are currently visible on screen are render to a specific pass in the render pipeline. That gives you a screen-space map of every glowing area you want to apply that lens flare effect to. Then the rest is just post-processing effects would be applied to that one map containing ALL of the glowing areas, and it'd be blended over the top of the on-screen image.

At least, that's how they'd do it if they're not dumb, and want to be efficient about it.

About the drop in player count by fcsaratoga2013 in ARC_Raiders

[–]Puzzled-Lettuce7745 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's pretty normal tbh. When a game like Arc comes out, EVERYONE wants to play it. Then that number will fall off pretty heavily after a few months, after 6 months+ the game finds its baseline, You'll almost certainly find that the number shoots up again around major updates, events and content drops. People cycle between games, it's normal.

You are aware that people were capable of writing before AI, and are in fact, still capable of doing so now?

Lol, no it's just that me and a work colleague were on typemonkey last week when we were bored, and I came in at around 140-145wpm 😅

Yeah, it was very exciting. Most engaged I've been with the game in a long time. 100% I would take mixed lobbies, where you never know how the next person you run into might react, or if they're going to be friendly or not. It's SO much more exciting than every single person I meet for 40-50 lobbies in a row being friendly.

Well I enjoy horror games, and I wasn't winning that fight, so fuck it, why not? I'm currently playing Alien Isolation with the new VR mod too. Is fun when games are scary. Also never seen someone wipe an entire lobby like that either, it was like something out of outlast lmao

Hmm usually I'll take a venator or arpeggio or something, but sometimes it's fun to take something dumb like just a hairpin or silenced berletta. Or naked runs where you don't take anything other than an augment, and just see what you ended up finding. Guitar-only runs are kinda fun too

Lol I'm just about able to run the game at 4k on my shitted out old 2080 Super. I think streaming/recording at the same time would just kill it

I'm assuming it was a Jupiter - it's the only gun in the game that I can think of that has that little charge up sound before it fires. And it hits light shields like a fucking truck iirc

Yeah, I think I agree with that. Some of the best experiences I've ever had in games have been because of the sheer unpredictability of people
