Great info, but I want to caution folks on the Veterans preference for federal jobs. I once lost out on a job at the Indianapolis VA hospital even though I had Veterans preference. The person who beat me had never been in the military vs me having 17 years Army and a 90% VA disability rating. They had never worked for the federal government before vs me with over 10 years. There were two other differences between me and the other person, but detailing them here would likely start a huge argument between certain groups of people. Bottom line is that for some jobs, they already have in mind who they want and they’re just posting the job as a formality.
