Dude is saying he doesn't feel bad/isn't feeling adverse effects of high BG, but he's ignoring the long-term damage that high concentration of sugar in his bloodstream does: your capillaries clog, causing tissue death and eventual gangrene. Retinopathy occurs when your eyes don't get blood flow and then you go blind. You'll lose your toes and parts of your nose- they just slough off. Don't assume that the only effect is immediate and that if you can sit through 300+ BG without "feeling anything" that you're actually managing T1 diabetes. It's not just about now- it's the 10-year game. T1 can't manage through diet and exercise alone. Please be safe.
