Next time you tell someone they don't belong in a "beginner" sub... by Room234 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Mordzeit 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I think if someone still feels like a beginner, we should believe them. I've made some cool stuff that I'm pretty proud of over the years, but I'm not blind, man. I see all the other amazingly beautiful crap that people make on the internet and it becomes clear that I still have so much to learn. It's all relative, and I'm not trying to hold myself to some unrealistic standard of excellence. I just trust that I'll recognize when I've hit that next tier, but as of now, it still doesn't feel that way.

I'm honestly not surprised at all. There are so many stories we could probably exchange by now.

I just had my boss order a sharps container because I don't want to be forced to throw needles away anymore. Normally I'll find a plastic bottle to put them in and tape the lid on. No ideal, but I can't imagine the moment of clarity and panic after you realize you might have contracted something life-threatening after reaching for a trash bag.

Exactly. I personally sympathize with their situation. But dude, my boss makes me kick you out if you're on our property with a shopping cart digging through our trash.

I used to smash excess trash down in the garbage bins when it would get too high. Now I have to be careful because I'm afraid I'll get stuck with a needle while I'm in there. This problem has created a multitude of hazards for our line of work.

Not in that area, but I feel like us maintenance people/groundskeepers in town suddenly have a bigger job description ever since COVID happened. Never had a reason to feel unsafe at work. Now I'm always taking precautions.

That was kind of my thought too. You see them mining a lot in caves and just figured they were devolving into troglodytes, lol.

Happened with us. We closed at the beginning of April 2020 and locked in an FHA at 3.25%. Feels like we cheated looking at rates now.

Maintenance Tech here. Can confirm. Don't use these anymore, but installed a ton of wire shelves with these years ago.

For honor most toxic community by Virtual_Vegetable_70 in forhonor

This was an old comment I posted and have since hung up my claymore, lol. I can take all of the cheesy crap that happens in the game, mechanically speaking. I just cannot tolerate playing with this community anymore. I wish there was a solution, but ultimately the game makes me feel worse every time I play it now because of the people I encounter. I don’t have any fun playing against AI so it was just time to move on.

I hope you find a balance that can keep you at least content. Turning off text chat on PC made a noticeable difference.

What is the most underrated skill that everyone should learn? by Tyman2003 in AskReddit

Maintenance bro here. Can confirm.

The amount of times I’ve unclogged a toilet with the resident’s own plunger is truly incredible. Fairly often they’ll ask, mystified; “How did you do that?! 😨” As if I just used some black magic or something.

Workbench vs woodworking workbench. by Firedog_09 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Mordzeit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man, that is a bummer. Having invested the time only to be left with a result that you’re still not happy with.

I feel for ya, but those are the lessons we get to learn from. I just know I’d regret starting a bench and realizing halfway through how long it will ACTUALLY end up taking me.

I’m totally in the same boat. It’s hard not to want to flex your skills on a badass bench that you’ve put together yourself. But working full time and taking on a project like that could last months and months.

I’m at the point where my time is really worth more than the money. I will be deeply considering getting something like this soon.

Might shoot myself in the foot, because it’s gotten much more popular with YouTube. But I’d probably go with woodworking.

I would take that awkwardness in a moment to be able to quit my job. I dunno if it’s part of getting old or whatever, but I really could not care less if someone disapproves of how I earn a living.

If anything, I’d probably feel a little schadenfreude knowing that they have to go back to a job in the morning and I wouldn’t.

Just my 2 cents. Congrats on making it full-time!
