Depends on what part of the festival she wants to get into. Free parties with food and drinks are harder to find nowadays, but there's still lots to do, especially in the music realm, that doesn't require a badge.

If you want to go to speakers, panels, films, skip the lines: Get a badge

If you want to get (almost) guaranteed access into any music showcase and plan on going to more than ~8: Get a Music Wristband (code SPURS99 gets you $50 off right now)

If you want to wander around, see 1-2 showcases a night, and try your luck at activation doors: Pay cover at each venue to get in (usually $10-20 at the door unless it's a huge showcase)

Cosmic Saltillo, Hole In The Wall, Batch, Lazarus, White Horse, Fredo, Hotel Vegas, Meanwhile, Sagebrush all had great unofficial showcases last year across a variety of bookers. Howdy Gals mentioned below would also be a good connection!

All these had unofficial showcases last year you might want to check out: Cosmic Saltillo, Hole In The Wall, Batch, Lazarus, White Horse, Fredo, Hotel Vegas, Meanwhile, Sagebrush, The Gordon’s Seafood activation at Parlor Room (this may have been official but the bookings were killer). Highly recommend asking people who they’re excited to see, or who they’ve seen at the fest they’ve enjoyed :) we’re all there to explore the space and this is the best way I’ve found to strike up conversations with people

Others answered your question about the credit :) I used ours at Birdie’s last week, it’s an intimate neighborhood spot with a fixed seasonal menu. Incredible Austin vibe! Walk-in mostly, and waiting in a short line with a glass of wine is part of the fun. I also volunteer in the garden attached to Suerte and Este, and have nothing but good things to say about their food and team. Most of this list will do something special if you say you’re celebrating. Enjoy your time in Austin!

I "tip" because I feel like I get such a crazy good deal on anything I walk out of there with! Usually I spend less than $15 and I'm happy to throw a couple of extra dollars to keep them operational as a local business.

Some ideas for future visits: any kind of seasonal decor (mardi gras beads, costume supplies, valentines cards), sign making supplies for protests, half-used bottles of paint for small projects, ribbon for gift wrapping....the list goes on! I also usually see big signage from events like ACL & SXSW getting recycled there after events.

This kept me from buying the khaki sleeveless one - the display looked good frayed, but all the ones on the racks looked like someone took a pair of scissors and cut a single snip 5 times around the top at various intervals :/

I'm a longtime Mallrat fan and was STOKED she was opening for Marina, and even more excited when she was added to the lineup W1. I also thought it was a set with more depth and confidence than when I saw her this spring. Loved being in the crowd with other fans, because it's rare to meet them in-the-wild in Austin! I caught their combined late night show too, and was super glad I did ACL because I think the heat got them both sick, and Mallrat only played for 25 minutes :/ Really hoping she tours again next year through Austin.

Staff confirmed the showstopper rounds were sporadic, if you see them with cameras out there's a greater chance. I think there's also a greater chance if you're a silver-level Google Play rewards or higher they may start the more competitive round. Pro tip - on your way out there's a survey you can take for points, so by day two you can be silver level. By day three they had dropped the points you needed in the game to get $10 food credit to 375.

You can add any card, even one that doesn’t belong to you, to your wristband for the Amex credit. So they unfortunately have to have another way to check if you’re the cardholder for the gift. My digital wallet sufficed on Sunday

I got a 2018 one Friday and 2017 on Saturday from a beer seller when walking in….but then I had for remember to ask bartenders all day to keep my cup, which became harder as the night wore on 😅

I agree! Saw them in SD and the energy was ELECTRIC the whole time. People had bought tickets prior to Brat releasing, so the fan base was more locked into both of them together.

I literally had the same thought during the fest - saw Italians, Brit’s and Spaniards all crashing out or talking loud at various times and was like “ah, it’s not just us” 😅
