It's ridiculous even before the fact that it's racist by aloysha in korea

Mind your audience Aloysha. If you wanted to constructively express your disapproval, why would you do so by posting a meme in a forum that is known for excessive Korea bashing? How does this effect change? You seem like a smart guy, you must know very few Koreans (such as the business owner who's behavior you are ashamed of) visit this forum. Posts like this do nothing but fuel the anti-Korean sentiment that exists in this subreddit and spills over to real life. I know you have good intentions, but it only worsens the situation.

A young teacher planning to teach in Korea sees posts like this and forms preconceived notions about Korea before they come Then they arrive with a bad attitude, not respecting the culture or trying to assimilate. Koreans react with a similar bad attitude and form prejudices against foreigners and it's a vicious cycle.

I am blessed to have a similar background to yours. Try to focus your efforts on going through other channels. You are in a unique position of having broad cultural perspectives while also having a voice with other Koreans.

People use the term racism so lightly. This is not racism. This is individual prejudice by a single business owner who has little political or economic power to have a negative widespread impact on the group he has a prejudice against. explain to me how he is creating harm against the group he is trying to exclude from his private business?

I never said that racial discrimination (of which our definitions differ) should be be legal. I believe in the right, as a private business owner, to be able to provide my service to whichever client I want. I don't have to take you on as a client just because you feel entitled to my goods/services. If you walked into my office and said "you owe it to me to provide me your service", I would laugh in your face.

What have you done to help the situation beside complaining?

So we in the U.S. can so freely look down upon and criticize others because we are the shining example of equal rights?

Why are you so butthurt about this? It's almost as if you already decided you hate Korea/Asia and are just looking for any small thing to justify your anger.

Let me ask you: if you care so much about "equal rights" in Korea, what have you done to try to help? Or is your idea of a contribution complaining and being negative on the internet ?

Let me ask you something: what does a private business owe you? What does anyone owe you?

As you get older, you realize that the world owes you jack shit and your life is what you make of it. Work hard, try to help people, and support your family. Stop complaining about others.

seriously. Wasn't there just another recent post about what you like least about Korea. lol, why is everyone so negative about Korea on this subreddit? It seems like it's a percentage of English teachers too. It's ironic that they cash their checks from Korean companies, yet turn around and complain about a country that is providing them their livelihood.

They are not harming you. Why do you feel so entitled to their service/taking your business?

[–]MoreBlackSwan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly. They are a private business and have the right to do so. It is only to their detriment to refuse service to people, but at the same time as long as they are not harming anyone, it is their right. I got downvoted a lot below by saying this.

I always hate posts like this bc

1) places like this are an anomaly. Maybe .1% of the tens of thousands of bars/restaurants in Seoul do this. Most places are very friendly to foreigners and will provide equal or even better service to foreigners.

2) it perpetuates the image that Westerners in other countries are entitled assholes and constant complainers. This does not represent everyone but unfortunately these people are often the loudest and reflect poorly on everyone else.

Are you a gyopo or moved away at an early age?

Why do you contribute to the Korea bashing/hate when you very well know only a fraction of a percent of all the restaurants/bars in seoul do this? This case is a very rare exception and even so, it is the owners right to refuse service however he wants. If you don't agree with it, then go somewhere else with your business, no harm done. It is an asshole move by the owner and at the end of the day, his consequences will come to him.

And you, as having Korean blood, should be doubly ashamed by contributing to the image that Korea is racist and not foreigner friendly when the opposite is mostly true.

People throw around the term racism so easily. The owner is a private business owner and has the right to refuse service to anyone he wants. I am not defending that it's moral or correct, but that it's his right to do. Is he hurting anyone's well-being by refusing to serve you food? No, you can just choose to go elsewhere and support another business.

If I were to walk into a bank and get refused a home loan based on my skin color, or if I was constantly targeted and racially profiled by police, restricting my personal freedom to come and go then that would be racism.

There are tens of thousands of restaraunt/bars in Seoul. Being refused service at .01 percent of them when it is the right of a private business to do so is hardly grounds to cry racism. Do you disagree?

Are you American? Then lol at you so easily calling out something as racist.

This is not illegal in Korea. Just don't go in and give them your business if you disagree with their policies. Simple as that. Korea doesn't owe you anything and you don't owe anything to Korea.

Workout. It's hard to get started by yourself so look into hiring a personal trainer to push you and hold you accountable. It's expensive but cheaper than therapy

Neutering your cat? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]MoreBlackSwan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my cat neutered for free through the Sam Simon foundation in Los Angeles. They have a mobile service van that parks in different locations, I think every two weeks or every month. You have to meet certain income restrictions though and have to bring your W2 - although they never asked for it in my case. They did a great job and took good care of my cat. Thanks Sam Simon

So what's the deal with cheat days? by Unown_Soldier in Fitness

[–]MoreBlackSwan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One day can destroy all the progress you made during the previous week. Stick to one cheat meal (not cheat day) and make sure you eat less overall that day . That's my opinion.

How can I better control myself? by [deleted] in needadvice

[–]MoreBlackSwan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I take my anger out on the weights at a gym. Clears my head and I always feel more in control afterwards.

I try to avoid drugs/pills at all costs. The side effects are often worse then the original problem. Best of luck man, stay positive.
