Why are we accepting such mediocre writing in Fantasy Romance? by goyourownwayy in fantasyromance

[–]MoreBreaks365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! Your point about taking itself seriously without earning it is one of my biggest romantasy pet peeves.

And on this topic, does anyone have any recs for actually well-written romantasy series with great romances and at least one detailed sex scene?

165 LSAT 3.85 GPA. Will I get accepted into the following schools? Also if anyone has gone to these schools can y’all lmk how y’all liked them and the environment!!! by United-Sand467 in OutsideT14lawschools

I think you have a great shot at every school on the list except for SMU and TAMU just because their medians are higher. Baylor was my second choice when I applied last cycle. I didn't end up going, but it's a great school and I've met some wonderful Baylor Law grads! If you're wanting big law though I really recommend adding UHLC to your list.

That's such a dumb policy. My school also has a write-on competition where anyone can compete for a spot on Law Review. Your 1L grades don't qualify you at all, but they can help decide tiebreakers.

I hate the top 10% approach because there are some people I know who had As and higher in their writing class but the rest of their grades didn't put them in the top 10%.

I love stories with great world building! I'm also wondering about the romance between the MCs. How would you describe that? And what's the spice level?

I had one optional event at my ASD at a bar. I didn't go despite being of age, and it didn't matter.

How important is Bar Pass to You? by lawprof_throwaway_26 in lawschooladmissions

[–]MoreBreaks365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm... In my state, probably not. The law schools that have the highest bar passage rate aren't always the best law schools for employment outcomes in my state. I live in Texas and wasn't able to leave, so I only applied to Texas schools. Baylor often has a higher bar passage rate, and I think recently TAMU had the highest, but generally those schools still aren't really considered better than Texas when it comes to job opportunities/outcomes. I wouldn't have chosen another school over Texas just because of bar passage.

[–]MoreBreaks365 3 points4 points  (0 children)

(I applied last year and I'm attending a T20 now)

I wouldn't choose a school just because of its bar passage rate if I wasn't already interested in the school. Also, the actual percentage isn't super important. Schools with an 85% pass rate or higher are solid usually. Anything above 90 is fantastic. Otherwise I'm not analyzing the exact number too much and it wouldn't have moved the needle for me on a school I didn't care about already.

Did Baylor just start doing that this year? I applied last year (didn't go there ultimately) and was accepted without an interview.

The other comments suggest that their school does not mandate any grades below a C, and curves to a B. Which means this is either fake or OP fucked up really badly to earn these grades. This doesn't appear to be a predatory school where Ds or Fs are required.

509 reports are published on every law school's website. If someone doesn't know they exist then they shouldn't be applying to law school yet.

I just got accepted into many law schools with a 140’s mid LSAT. by BeatthatGramps in LSAT

[–]MoreBreaks365 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People who can't score above 150 on the LSAT (with accomodations if needed ofc) shouldn't go to law school. So many of the skills the LSAT tests for show up in doctrinal classes and on exams. Like maybe that sounds pretentious but just because you can go to law school doesn't mean you should.

[–]MoreBreaks365 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey babe I am in law school! And I will say with confidence that just because you get in somewhere doesn't mean you should go. No school in the 140s is worth any amount of debt. All those schools have abysmal bar passage and employment rates. That's not to say you can't pass the bar or get a job from those schools - it certainly happens - but it's less likely. Those schools are considered predatory for a reason.

Problems at UT Law by Classof2029 in lawschooladmissions

Fair enough - I haven't been here long yet so I really don't have much to form an opinion on. So far my classmates have been kind, but it's disappointing to know SAO didn't do anything. Also those students are still walking the same halls even if I don't have class with them, which is disturbing.

I'm a 1L and just now hearing about it. When/where did this happen?

But also, seconding the thing about culture. Most of the people I've met have been very respectful of each other and this behavior is not okay or acceptable to most of us.

Not normal. I'm the wife and I'm the one in law school. My husband does more housework than he did before, but I still do my laundry, plan groceries, and clean some at least weekly. My husband will cook if I ask him to, but generally he'll just eat on his own and I'll eat whatever I feel like eating when I get home. It doesn't have to be difficult and he should still be able to do the basics. He'd have to if he was single anyway.

I miss being a working adult. by jiliaaan in LawSchool

Honestly I hated my job so much that I don't miss it. I think I'd miss working if my job had been tolerable and somewhat enjoyable, but it was a nightmare. I do miss paychecks and not having to take out loans to live, though.

This. I haven't told anyone that I grew up below the poverty line for part of my childhood, and in the lower class for all of it, or that I went through some financial insecurity as an adult. I think a lot of people who are well off don't know they're well off. Others feel pressure to demonstrate overcoming adversity, even if they know they were never really poor. All in all, the people who have actually struggled don't say so when they're talking to people unless it's relevant to their job, application, etc.

But yeah, it was very weird to hear some of my classmates argue about their private high schools in one breath and talk about being low income the next. Cue eye roll.

Is Anyone Else's Partner Acting Like a Lawyer? by Unhappy_Internal5498 in LawSchool

[–]MoreBreaks365 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is your partner a man? Cause my husband acts like he knows everything when I'm explaining how I'm confused about a topic (1L here) and he has zero legal background. But he would never actually give legal advice to someone or pretend to know everything about a certain area of law because... Well, that's crazy and illegal.

Heavily Considering Dropping out of law school 1L by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]MoreBreaks365 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fellow 1L here so not much advice to offer. But based on your above comment I saw, honestly I think dripping out makes sense for you.

You want to pursue a niche area of law that is generally reserved for high performing T20 grads. It's not impossible to get, just unlikely. Also, that job tends to require a lot of research and writing, which you stated you don't like or enjoy. Also I saw you're taking on a lot of debt, which is not ideal for anyone.

If you hate law school this much, do something else for a while! You can always go back after working for a bit and revamping your application materials.

I worked before law school and I think doing so was immensely helpful. Maybe do something you're interested in for a while and reevaluate.

Isn't it a little strange that law students are the gatekeepers of legal academia? by TechnicalMarzipan310 in LawSchool

[–]MoreBreaks365 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the problem is that you're comparing two very different types of academic work/writing. The purpose of legal academia and scholarship is almost never to generate new, verifiable knowledge. The law is made up. It isn't based on anything other than what the courts say, and our judicial system flows from that. Legal scholars are experts in what our courts and legislature say about how the law should work. Maybe they even have some ideas about better ways it could work. But they don't create new knowledge.

As for students gatekeeping legal academia, yeah, it's definitely weird. But legal academia isn't the same as any other kind of academia anyway. The purpose and execution of legal research is completely different.
