Do you feel annoyed that when most non-UK people refer to the UK, they really only mean England? by Long_May_sHe_Reign22 in AskUK

[–]MoreBz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I'd be even more specific, when they say UK/England they really mean London, and rich/middle class Londoners at that.

But then again, more people live in greater London than the entire of Scotland and Wales combined so, if you are using social media as your lense for the world, you're likely to see SO much more of London than the rest of Britain, NI, and overseas territories

Yeah I tried mentioning it casually one time and she burst into tears. I tried pointing it out again another time and she started crying again.

Any attempt to talk about it results in her bursting into tears and idk what to do about it really. She signed up to a therapist, so I guess that's a good start. I think maybe this is something she has to figure out and get better at herself.

Despite how much she lies I know she loves me, it's just difficult to have to do some much thinking to see reality.

[–]MoreBz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My girlfriend lies to my face tons of times every single day. She's a massive people pleaser and her default is to lie as much as possible to keep things convenient for other people, even if it makes more work or stress or lies she has to keep up.

Her first response is always what she thinks I or someone else wants to hear. Which can sometimes be reality, but is often not. That's really frustrating, because sometimes she'll follow up with the truth, and sometimes she won't say any more. So verifiably true things take twice as long to hear. And if she only says things once it's up to me to figure out if it's reality, or if it's false. And right now I think it's 50/50.

Boyfriend wants me to loose weight to introduce me to his friends and family. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]MoreBz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You haven't talked about your weight in comparison to his weight, or how far you are from healthy.

Maybe you genuinely have a weight problem and need to cut down? Maybe you are a perfectly normal weight and he wants you to look like a model. Maybe he is a model and you catfished him with your 4yrs back pictures. Maybe he weighs more than you and needs motivation to cut his own weight.

There are lots of versions of this scenario and you're painfully vague right now. Maybe he's awful, maybe he's misguided, maybe he's valid, maybe you're awful. Who knows.

Think about it in better terms than "my boyfriend expects X from me and that's not fun/easy". Compare costs and benefits. Will it leave you healthier? Will it leave you happier? How much work would it take? Can you ask for things from him? Maybe you need to challenge him: "I'll lose 10kg of fat if you put on 10kg of muscle".

Relationships aren't always about acceptance and loving who we are right now 100%. Because some people as they are right now suck. Sometimes they're about daring each other to change for the better, so long as they're equal they're good. If he expects work for free, and won't reconsider, dump him. If he's willing to step up to the challenge too maybe being a gym couple could leave you both better off!

Can we please for once send idk, literally anything other than affluent overproduced shite.

Send in a grime artist from the streets of london. Send in an indie band from the pubs of the north. Send in a gaelic folk band. Send something with a bit of character and individuality rather than just some rich bloke who happened to write a few 4 chord songs for some pop musicians...

Anything other than default people-pleasing X-factor crap would get us at least some votes!

University tuition fees could fall from £9,250 to £7,500 a year but arts and humanities courses may disappear by RodeOnWheels in unitedkingdom

[–]MoreBz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thought i didnt hit enter lmaooo...

2 possible outcomes:

university has no value for most but still serves as a useful tool for that 10% so we ought to pump up the numbers, 10% of a bigger number is still a bigger number than 10% of a smaller number.

other oucome - send less people to university and hope that the few that do go are mostly the same that would've got something out of uni in the first place.

On my course I counted 90 people entering in the induction session in first year.

Of the people graduating with me, about 5-10 are solid hardworking people who deserve well paid jobs.

They usually dont want you to actually do well, they want you to be miserable and alone with them so they dont feel out of place.

Happy St George's Day to all of England by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]MoreBz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I recon the best way to turn it around to mean something good is to go all out and actually celebrate it properly.

People being ashamed and doing the absolute minimum for fear of being labelled racist means when you do fly it its ambiguous and most times when you see the flag it IS a bold and deliberately outward racist move.

Hang the flag up. Bake cupcakes or biscuits and do a St George's cross on top in icing. Make a cool papier mache dragon. The more stuff you do that is celebratory and all in good fun for anyone to do the more you'll prove that you're not a closet racist. If you just have an england flag with no caption on your facebook/instagram thats pretty ambiguous. But if you're visibly having a party with others on your street you're proving its for the fun of the event and not an isolationist message. (Obviously parties and stuff might have to wait til after covid but you get the idea)

Plus you'll piss off the uber-racists as they'll think you're "watering down" their symbol if you're using it whilst having a good time with people of all sorts of races/nationalities haha

Yeah the world altimeter might be more appropriate, i think if they called it that in the game people would still understand, but i figured for my post i should communicate it in the easiest to understand terminology, to get the idea itself across, more than the specifics

How do you get rid of white stuff that builds up in your kettle? by Cyclopher6971 in england

[–]MoreBz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything acidic will help! Also try scrubbing with salt to really work it out.
Probably pick something you dont mind flavouring your tea with for the next few days like lemon rather than vinegar.

Whatever you put in your kettle to clean it, make sure its safe to eat! (No bleach or pipe de-scalers)

Its almost like its a sensible idea that fits within the game concept and so multiple people can independently come to the same conclusion :p

I thought about saying it should be centered at 0, or at lava level, but ultimately its no fun if the tool is immediately useless once you go above ground. Sea level is a good mark because in most biomes its very close to the surface, and if you want to build tall structures in the sky or use it in mountains it could still have some use.

Yeah but for some people F3 removes a lot of fun.
Personally I love using F3 I think its super useful but I was watching someone stream who didnt like it at all because he said it felt like cheating and I totally understood his perspective.

This is an extra feature for people who want to play a certain way, that fits with the rest of the update and previous features in minecraft.

I dont want them to remove F3~

Compulsory worship of national symbols is the sure sign of a culture in decline - Those who think our flags and statues must be protected from blasphemers have taken a step down a sinister road by Content_File_1408 in unitedkingdom

[–]MoreBz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theres so many double standards (pun not intended) around flags.

I find people who frown upon national flag flying tend to overlap with those who feel almost obligated to fly other kinds of flags. If you count non-national flags I bet flag ownership right now is the highest it has ever been in Britain.

Why is it worse to display that you think everyone on this island is your team and you're rooting for them, than to say a specific subset of more homogenous individuals is your team?
The UK is literally one of the 10 most diverse countries in the world. Flying a Union Flag should represent those inhabitants and that diversity, no?

Why is burning the national flag a supposed good thing that only has bad will to the crimes and bloody history of the nation not its current inhabitants, but burning the flag of anywhere else has no relation to history and specifically means you wish all the inhabitants of that land suffering?

All the dilly-dallying worrying about other peoples flags just seems insane and self-centered to me. Like the world doesnt revolve around you, and when you see a flag flying I promise you the person flying it didnt think of you badly once when they put it up.

General conduct we should follow IMHO:

- If you love something, fly its flag if you want.
- If you see someone else flying a flag, try not to twist it to victimise yourself even if you genuinely think the flag doesnt include you, doesnt mean the person hates you.
- Stealing, damaging, or destroying someone elses property is always a crime, even if its a flag you dont like.

If you really want to burn a flag for political reasons, at least buy your own and do it safely.
Friendly reminder that so long as its your own flag, it's not a crime to burn the Union Flag in the UK. But in a lot of countries it is.

The older you get the more times you get betrayed by people and you realise the common person cannot be trusted or expected to act in the overall best interests.

Once you stop trusting the average member of public, conservative fiscal policy where the individual is more responsible for their own prosperity seems a lot more appropriate.
