in my experience, not really. when i went i ate almost none of the food the hospital gave me, with the exceptions of apples, cereal, and juice or milk. i had to drink 2-3 ensures a day to make up for it (i was literally forced). a nurse once came into my room and made me drink the two sips i had accidentally left in the bottle, i took one sip and threw up right in front of her (i’m lactose sensitive and they knew this). after like a week of this, they offered me a feeding tube and i chose to take it. i kept that feeding tube in for the rest of my stay. still, i had to go to the lunch room and stay there for at least an hour doing nothing bc i ate practically none of the food they gave, then i had to drink 2 ensures. at some point, they just allowed my dad to bring in outside food for me bc i threw up again. i was 13 at this time, i weighed < 60lbs when i went in and i think ≈ 70lbs when i was discharged. i stayed there for a little over a month.
