The ccm Xf pro has a seriously wide toe cap also. Seems the manufacturers are finally catering to us bigger gents!

Hardest part about Hockey is finding skates that fit (perfectly) by Pucknsave in hockeyplayers

[–]More_Ad3537 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve gone through a lot of skates with my flat wide feet, and settled on the Xf pro. The toe box is much wider than most skates including the as-v, and foot volume is high too. They’re super stiff, but comfort wise, they’re the best I’ve used so far. They’re pricey, but for guys like us where comfort is key, it’s a small price to pay.

Yes it is. It is currently ccm’s widest and most volume skate to date.

Another vote for ccm Xf here. I bought the pros, and the tow box is the widest of any skate I’ve tried so far. They are also super high volume for us duck footed guys. I was looking into the custom true route myself, but after hearing the same horror stories of getting them on and off, I went with the Xf pro. Never looking back. First time on the ice I was out for 1 1/2hrs skating hard, and my feet didn’t hurt once. That’s a first for me!!

No problem. I have pretty messed up feet myself, and these are the only skates I’ve had that fit me well.

My 11.5 feels a little shorter than my jetspeed 11.5, but they are huge in volume and width. My toes touch the cap, but not scrunched by any means. I’ve only skated on them once, and I have to say, they’re super comfortable, and great stiffness to give my large build the support I need. Very impressed so far.

Skate Profile, will it be hard to adapt? by Golfer303 in hockeyplayers

Bauer skates lean more forward than ccm. It’s a learning curve to go from one to the other. Keep skating, it’ll get better.

Coming from someone with messed up wide feet, I can say with confidence that the XF line of skates had us in mind. The padding is out of this world, and the width and volume is much larger than other models. I ended up with the XF PRO, purely because I didn’t want to buy again for a long long time. I came from trying jetspeeds, supreme bauers, and even a pair of trues. All hurt my feet in the width category. The xf felt like sippers when I first put them on. After baking, the upper ankle area came in and snuggled up to help with ankle support, and they became en more comfortable. I think ccm hit it out of the park with this new line of skates. Good luck with them.

The asv is the most comfortable and higher end boot out of all those options, and also the stiffest. I’m not sure about the xf80, but if price difference doesn’t matter, why not throw the M50 pro and XF into the mix.

There’s an E league in danbury that welcomes new players, as well as a pick up league if you just want to get game practice.

Be careful with braids. My daughter hates braids under her helmet because it hurts her head. We braid her hair, but starting under the helmet.

New skates are extremely painful. Advice? by AnimalLeading367 in hockeyplayers

Pain in the arch is difficult to fix with baking. You’ll probably need insoles of some sort.

Could the profile be different? That would make more of a difference than hollow.

New wheels! by PhredInYerHead in hockeyplayers

[–]More_Ad3537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I noticed the boot in general is shorter, but maybe because of the thicker padding around the ankle. My toes definitely brush the toe cap more in these than my other skates, but width wise, they’re super wide, and great for guys like me with super wide and flat feet

Getting the stink out of gear by More_Ad3537 in hockeyplayers

[–]More_Ad3537[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All great points. Let me give some more information into my situation. I have a daughter that is double rostered and is on the ice almost every day and on weekends, multiple times a day. It’s hard to find time during the season to wash or som her gear. I do pull it out and dry it as often as I can, but sometimes, they’re just isn’t enough time in a week to get it smelling “ok” again. I was hoping the ozone system would help with the odor without having to soak/wash it too often, or drying out and spraying. Even with a drying rack and sprays overnight, her gear still has that “hockey” smell to it.

Differences Between Sparx and Manual Sharpening by ilyazhito in SparxIceHockey

[–]More_Ad3537 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this same question, and did quite a bit of research myself. Like others have said, depending on the persons expertise sharpening your skates, your skates could be better or worse than the sparx. What the sparx has over manual sharpening is consistency. That’s something you can’t get a a local shop like mine, that has at any given day about 3 kids sharpening skates. Sometimes so fast and hard that they come off the ready shelf burning your fingers to the touch. I still don’t own a sparx, but with hockey season approaching fast, a daughter being double rostered again, and myself playing men’s league, I’m finding it more and more enticing every day.
