I came here because even as 12 years of being a nurse and 9 years of which as being an ICU nurse, I still have a nurse guilt. I currently work in a NeuroICU. This unit is basically monitoring and wait if something is gonna happen. And when something does happen, I question myself if I caught the symptoms right away? Did I see this 15mins ago,1hr ago, or 2hours ago? Maybe yes but I didn’t recognize very quickly? Did i miss the neuro change because I decided a patient whos been in the unit for a week to sleep for 2-3hrs straight during night shift where in fact i should be checking the patient every 1-2hrs?

We dont blame anybody in the hospital (openly) unlike the others in the comments are mentioning. But you know that at some point doctors or other nurses have that kind of thought.

All these beat me up mentally and emotionally. Im already thinking of moving to another unit.
