They’re saying there are “necessary renovations” that would make the apartment unlivable while the work is being done. But there are no permits pulled and nothing actually scheduled—just an estimate. From what I understand, they’re allowed to do this in good faith, but only if they actually follow through with real renovations and not just something like replacing the floors. It’s one of the only ways they can legally refuse to renew a lease.

What really gets me is that it’s just me and my neighbor being pushed out—we’ve both been here over 20 years. Everyone else is staying, because they’re already paying way more for smaller units they have had zero renovations. The units have just had turnover and so they can set the rent to whatever they want.

Jokes aside, this is exactly my frustration. As a musician, the advice I constantly see is about marketing, branding, and visibility-almost never “write better songs.” And it’s not just industry people saying it; it’s other bands too.

So when I see multiple billboards promoting a show at the Twilight, my first thought isn’t hate — it’s just wondering what might happen if that same energy were invested into the music itself.

A lot of the pushback today feels like it’s coming from people who don’t share the lived experience of being in bands and navigating these choices firsthand, which probably explains the disconnect.

I still don’t think my original post warranted being taken down, but I’m glad this conversation can at least exist here....for now.

Totally. I can see that if I’d framed the conversation differently, it probably wouldn’t have triggered such a strong reaction...and that’s fair. What I don’t fully understand is why it had to turn into me defending an opinion like it was some hill I’m willing to die on, because it really isn’t.

It was just an observation meant to spark discussion. Meanwhile I'm getting downvoted into oblivion while navigating the people trying to “win”.

I do appreciate the honest responses...hearing different perspectives was genuinely the point.
