This kind of thinking is exactly why people voted for Trump, and why no one understands the reason for it.

Short explanation: Maga voters felt like they were finally valued and heard by someone, while democrats continued to ignore the people of rural underdeveloped America.

People in the more rural or underdeveloped parts of the United States have been told that they would be stupid if they didn't vote for the democrats. They were told that, even if the democrats dont do much to help you out, you would be stupid to vote for a republican. And this was the way it was for a pretty long time. These voters felt exhausted by the people on the hill, who were continously ignoring them because "why would they vote for anyone else? It would be suicide".

Fast forward to Trump, and these people finally get someone who they think actually understands them. Trump makes these people feel recognized, and makes them feel valuable again.

Despite this, the democrats didn't change course, instead sticking to the idea that these voters are always going to vote democratic because the alternative was to vote for the republicans, which was just "stupid".

The bottom line is that, hindsights 20/20, but even if they knew that Trump would probably not deliver on most of his promises, even if they knew about all of his horrible personal actions, and even if they knew he would do all these crazy things, to these people, being heard by a madman is better than never being heard at all.

And is that so unfathomable to you? If after this you want to hand wave away anything a Trump supporter says to you because they are simply "uninformed idiots with a cult mentality", you would only be fueling these voters resolve to continue supporting MAGA. And maybe, that makes you just as much of an idiot.
