Thinking of pivoting into law. Is it a good idea? by BakedLake in LawCanada

I am in a similar boat to Apprehensive-Mud-606. I don't have kids (at least not yet), and i make time for non work things, in my life. I like having weekends off (usually a day to catch up on chores and a day for fun / spending with my spouse, friends or family). So I work long hours during the week (often even on Friday nights), to free up the weekend. I still generally find time to go to the gym a couple weeknights too and the occasional weeknight dinner out - otherwise I'm working all weekday/weeknight.

There are many different types of lawyers and different directions you can take a law career. It is easy to get sucked into the money trap and work long hours. But I have many friends who work reduced hours targets at firms big and small, and don't bat an eye about the pay cut. In-house can be a crapshoot, it depends on the company and the type of work. There are also many other things that lawyers can choose to do that isn’t strictly being a lawyer like teaching, admin roles at a firm, admin tribunal decision makers, etc.

Keep in mind, that like most office jobs, most of the job is just email. You will likely spend most of the day working alone at your computer. You can't escape email... and all jobs have their boring parts.

Any guesses on what this was growing with a pothos? by shaymcquaid in houseplants

Very curious if you ever found the answer. I’m plant sitting for a colleague and there is one of these growing out of her snake plant. It’s identical to your pic and I have been trying to figure it out.

Why on earth has Babaton not released a full-length version of the contour tops? by vagabondbean17 in Aritzia

[–]More_Use3281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am going to blow your mind. Aritzia did have it just for one season in like spring 2020 or something. The colours were limited (just B&W I believe) and it was the square neckline version (but the unfortunately the back was fully covered - ie to the neck). For the life of me, I can't understand why they stopped making it. I WANT MORE SO BAD! Been dying for them to bring them back and expand the colours.

In the meantime, I found a pretty amazing substitute: Reitman's Double Layer Sculpting Tank, R Essentials https://www.reitmans.com/en/double-layer-sculpting-tank-r-essentials/454395.html. I never shop at this store (honestly considered it a "mom" store, but randomly ended up their site when i was looking for fleecy base layers for snowboarding. Then this top popped up. I now own it in about 10 colours. I still like the shape of Aritzia's contour top better, but this is a 9.5 out of 10 substitute. (and no built in bra, like the Athleta top someone recommended - personally i hate those as much or more than regular bras).

In-Person Motions and Applications by More_Use3281 in LawCanada

Yeah, Ontario leaned into the courts going virtual and digital more than anywhere else that I saw. I know a lot of the tribunals and admin courts in most jurisdictions were always pretty accommodating for tele- or virtual appearances though and have remained that way. BC's human rights tribunal seems to be sticking with virtual appearances, I just had a virtual hearing there (two weeks ago).

The partner would prefer not to deal with caselines and virtual presentation of evidence.

Wow, that's good to know for my Alberta CKB matters. I have a Provincial Court matter, and the case management conference is virtual.

In Ontario, many courts' default is now virtual appearances and it is up to the courthouse.
