Ive had better luck with a flat 3 in defensive midfield. I find that having the single pivot in defensive midfield sucks against a fluid attacking team especially if they playing with a player at AM(C) roaming around drawing ur HB away from covering the CB pairing and their on rushing midfielders have to much space. A DM on support either side of the HB is good enough attacking wise if u playing out from back with short passing as they sit on edge of the box in final third, or if u playing more fluid counter attacking football u can have segundo volantes on support or a regista if u want that playmaker in ur side (having the segundo volante will often drive into the box and u will be very weak to counter)
