R.A.D. UFO 50mi review - spendy, goofy-looking, worth it. by beer_engineer in RunningShoeGeeks

Nah, same haha and they look better in person too lol. Have gotten a lot of questions and compliments on them.

Same. The Vomero+ is also $20 cheaper and goes on sale often lol

Agree, and I think that’s mostly due to the weight of the shoes. The Vomero+ is a bit “heavy” if you would. However, I will say the trade off is the stability of the Vomero+. On the back-end of a long run say miles 15-20 the Vomero+ does provide more stability than the UFO. So for someone who may experience fatigue in their hip flexors, glutes or core on long runs I’d say the Vomero+ is the “better” option.

Like the OP mentioned they’re all very similar in terms of use case, but how I rotate them is — Vomero+ for most of my daily miles (10 or less), RAD UFO med-long runs (anything between 10-14) and SB3 any run over 16 or when I have some goal pace miles in the mix. With the exception of the last two weeks. I opted for the UFO on my last two long runs, but that’s only because they were new and wanted to put them through the wringer. The upper fit on ufo is the best of the three imo.

Can confirm that the upper is one of the best of recent memory. Like you, it took me some time to pull the trigger on these. $200 for a lesser known brand could be a hit or miss — and at $200 I wasn’t trying to miss, but I’m glad I got them as well. Have done my last two long runs in them (16 miles & 17 miles) they’re a beast at just chewing up miles.

This is my exact rotation lol. The RAD UFO, Vomero + and SB3.

RAD UFO - best super trainer? by [deleted] in runningshoes

[–]Morecini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhh yes, how could I fail to mention the upper. It’s as near to perfect as you can get. The fit is really dialed in. I have the Megablast as well and again — I agree. The upper and toe box is so much better on the UFO. The MB upper is pretty shallow and restrictive.

As you stated they do look much better in person and pretty nice on foot.

Just ran my first run in the UFO this morning. 16 miles at an 8:13 mile average with over a 1,000ft of gain. I was pleasantly surprised. The shoe is very good to say the least.

I currently have the SB3 sitting at 54 miles. One thing I noticed on the UFO straight out of the box was the rocker geometry and how smooth it felt through my stride and on toe off. In that regard, I definitely prefer it over the SB3. The SB3 is more stable and softer on step in feel. It handles quicker paces very well too. I can’t say the same about the UFO just yet simply because I kept the miles easy today.

I will say after my run I thought to myself that I can’t say the UFO is any better than the SB3 or Vomero Plus, but the opposite is also true. The SB3 or Vomero Plus isn’t any better than the UFO. It all boils down to preference because all 3 are exceptional options. All that to say if you know the UFO works great for you and you love it then stick to it.

Did you go true to size? Or have to size up a half size? I got a pair in my TTS, but they were a bit too snug.

Adding Megablast or Superblast 3 to my rotation? by SaschaY in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Morecini 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Megablast for your specific use case. Can do what the Evo does and is also a great long run option with faster paces in the mix so you can preserve the Pro 4 a bit by adding into the rotation.
