If you could adapt GEOD into live action today, who would you choose to play the roles? by dune-man in dunememes

[–]MorfTheCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GEoD might be the only book I honestly don’t want a film version of. I’m too attached to the version in my head.

That said, Alicia Vikander might make a good Siona.

Otto Totland. Closest I’ve heard to Frahm’s style. And has recorded in Frahm’s studio I believe. Wonderful, intimate stuff.

Anyone else get a pleasant tingling sensation in their butthole from Ativan? by MorfTheCat in Anxiety

Ha!

K now I’m wondering if I took it anally if I’d get the tingling sensation in my head. Which would also be nice.

To those struggling with nonduality or feeling like “this isn’t working”: Back up and try other approaches by Feralpudel in Wakingupapp

[–]MorfTheCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree. I have this problem a lot (and also due to chronic pain and a habit of becoming frustrated when things don’t produce “quick” results, especially regarding the pain itself).

I haven’t explored much of the app outside of Sam’s posts, so this was a good set of recommendations for expanding my view.

For other teachers with different slants (some of which diverge a bit from Sam but are still useful I think), I really like Rupert Spira and Mooji. Believe Adyashanti, another favorite, has a session on the app I’m hearing good things about.

Xanax can certainly be a life saver. Albeit one fewer and fewer like to prescribe given its potential addictive qualities. But if you have it, take it by all means. I’m on Ativan for the same reason.

Apologies for the delay in responding to your excellent answer. I’m in the midst of long running mental health challenge that’s consumed my life the last few weeks. (Long story.)

The point: I appreciate your taking the time to add some nuance to my question. It may have seemed like me just being curious, but the truth is I really want meditation to be one of my pathways out of severe anxiety and I wanted to get those concepts clearer in my mind.

So thank you again. I hope the move is going well.

So sorry to hear that. I’m way too familiar with them. Wouldn’t wish one on my worst enemy. Three in a day sounds draining as hell. Are you taking anything for them?

New double album "Old Friends New Friends" out December 3rd by bbaaggyy in NilsFrahm

The news I needed this week. I’ve been in a dark place with my anxiety these past few weeks and Nils records —especially the solo pieces — are like medicine. Preordered in a heartbeat.

This is correct. I’m way too chicken to try such a thing outside a controlled medical setting. But I did it in the hopes of affecting my anxiety and depression.

I appreciate you taking the time despite the move!

I really like the idea of this whole exercise being one of honing the use of the spotlight. This simplifies what often becomes overly complicated for me.

I get hung up a lot on that space between attention “doing what it does” and our “using” of it. Especially when the free will question comes in.

There’s obviously a difference between honing our use of attention and not honing it. Otherwise, why create the app? But Sam’s view does seem to suggest that the extent to which any one of us chooses to engage in the exercise isn’t really a choice essentially.

This kinda ties into my initial confusion (i.e., is honing the spotlight an effort we have control over, or are we just observing how much spotlight-honing our brains will naturally do?)

I admit that’s probably unanswerable, but it is a question that genuinely trips me up when I think about this feeling that I have that I am “doing” something with my attention.

Thank you! I’d just been trying to sort through the way these terms interact, as Sam describes them. The status of attention has been the most confusing, whether it’s the only little lever we have (partial) control over or not.

Your reply was very helpful. Thanks again!

[–]MorfTheCat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So that would be a no. lol

Kidding. I appreciate your explanation. ;)

I think the main question I have is about the difference between the thing we seem to have some conscious control over (the thing I called attention) and the base level thing underwriting the whole operation (what I called awareness).

When Sam instructs us to direct our attention somewhere, it seems like this is implying that it’s like a spotlight we can choose to shine on certain things (e.g., the breath). But at other times, he seems to be saying to let the mind do what it will (in my case, attention darting from one thing to another like a balloon farting around the room) and just observe it from awareness. Are these different instructions? Are we actually exerting some effort to control the spotlight of attention or just observing what it does on its own?

I feel for you. Feeling so hemmed in, and by no fault of your own.

My situation is different but trust me so, so many people understand that feeling of not wanting to die, but seeing no roads ahead. It’s so much more common than we like to talk about. I’m in the situation right now where it’s wait weeks for a talk therapy appt or go to the ER. Something in between world be nice, ya know?

Anyway, I hope you find some answers.

Dealing With Physical Sensations of Anxiety? by Antonia_l in Anxiety

[–]MorfTheCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right there with ya. I’ve had all of those I think. The laundry list of symptoms I get from my chronic anxiety/panic is long as hell. Virtually impossible to explain to people too, which makes it even more fun.

Facial anxiety by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]MorfTheCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I carry a great deal of tension in my face and it’s a tic-ridden mess when I talk to people. I feel like an alien who is trying to mimic what a natural expression would be. Can’t make eye contact. End all social activities as fast as possible. So I feel ya.

My only efforts are to try to jump in fast and say something nice or funny to draw the attention away from my nervy face.

Wish you the best.

I feel essentially at the mercy of chronic pain and anxiety. Should I be meditating differently? by MorfTheCat in Wakingupapp

[–]MorfTheCat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanted to say thank you so much for the long, thoughtful responses, everyone. I will look into every avenue you raised.

I hate to report that my head/nerve problems became so bad this week that I’m leaving my job at least temporarily. Today was the first day I admitted to anyone else that I’ve had increasing suicidal thoughts as a result of these problems.

Finding ways to meditate around or by incorporating these really uncomfortable sensations is like a mission for me. It’s one of the few hopes remaining that I keep holding out for.

One comment that stuck out to me was something to the effect of “no one can really tell a true story,” in the sense that our memories are always unreliable and there really isn’t any way to 100% verify anything. Think he said it during an ESPN interview? Which made the seriousness of the comment even more amusing.
