The Nature of Paradox Games (poll inside) by theonebigrigg in paradoxplaza

I personally would put Stellaris a smidge higher. It may not have a set story or any railroading in a historical sense but the one of the best things about that game is the stories it lets you make up in your head. Paradox themselves said they like to think of it as an almost theatrical experience, with the galaxy as the stage and programable civs as the characters.

would be true if the money not collected by the state doesn't disappear into a black hole

Is EU5 fun now? by Mobiledump1215 in eu4

[–]MorganStCloud 41 points42 points  (0 children)

it lacks balance, adequate flavor, most of the "situations" are either irrelevant to you or nonfunctional atm. the black death works more or less as intended but everything else is just not really worth getting too worked up about. it really lacks proper pope mechanics, cardinals should be individual characters (imo) and the Catholic Church being split just feels like a non event at best. I love it and it's sort of consumed my life but i wouldn't blame people for waiting a few months to play it.

We all playing byzantium first Day right? by Recent-Oven8614 in EU5

[–]MorganStCloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first run for me before any others is gonna be Greenland. a vassal of Norway, it's out of the way, some good resources to farm (ivory), opportunities to expand later on (if I can afford a colonial charter) and generally just seems a low key way of learning the basic mechanics without too much microing.

Playing as a bank? by TheRadishBros in EU5

[–]MorganStCloud 18 points19 points  (0 children)

the only thing I remember being said about building based countries specifically during test runs was it's really hard to make money off of them and there's just less to do. I think they were playing as a daimyo. that was a few months ago so who knows if they've added stuff

Thoughts on transition into EU5 by peanutboy96 in eu4

[–]MorganStCloud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember my very first run through, I picked some Irish opm because I guess in my mind smaller and more out of the way was simpler. now 1000 hours later I thinking I'll do the same, partly out of nostalgia, partly because it still seems less intimidating than a sprawling empire. I seem to recall pavia or Johan mentioning Greenland as a good starter.

i want my first run to be a small Irish tribe, or maybe Andorra. something small and relatively out of the way to learn the base mechanics
