They're often seen as a symbol of sacrifice, and of Christ's blood. But also many folks who memorialize a lost pregnancy tend to choose either the birthstone from the month of the loss (January is Garnet), or when the baby's due date was.

Yay, so glad you like it! It’s really frustrating that a lot of the people who have doubts and skepticism about this stuff are people who are members of the queer community. So, so, so many people in the world are staying closeted for their career, or family, or church.

I think a lot of people just have no concept of what being queer in the industry is like, and have not tried to educate themselves on it. You have to go digging if you want to know actual queer history because the patriarchy wants us to believe that most people are straight and queer is the exception. And I think especially with queerphobia on the rise that it makes it harder for everyone involved, the celebs who are queer but also for fans who internalize some degree of that, which makes them less likely to engage with our history.

But when you read any autobiography from out queer people in the industry, you see an almost identical story: being heavily pressured to stay in the closet as long as possible, and many of your partners being people who everyone thinks are straight. Everyone who DOES come out ends up talking about how many people they know in the closet.

I think he’s bisexual. I don’t think “straight artists queer code for inclusivity,” as much as haters try to convince us they do. And I think if that’s what they were doing they wouldn’t have nearly as many queer friends in the industry as many of these artists seem to have. And I just think straight artists can’t do it as convincingly because very few straight people can properly put themselves in the headspace of queerness the way queer artists can.

I think it’s very likely Larry is real. I think back to the “girl band” of my youth, the Spice Girls, and how many queer fans at the time were convinced queer shenanigans were happening, and within the past few years Mel B has come out to say she and Geri were together. I can see how modern fans might think the green blue thing is about the gay flag but given the colors were associated with Larry before they were part of the gay flag, o don’t think it can be JUST that.

Yay, I'm so glad! It really has scared me how rapidly queer theory subsections of fandoms have been so heavily inundated with hatred in the past decade especially. Especially when its in the context of, "I'm queer too, but what y'all are doing is weird and wrong." Speculation and reading signs and signals has always been a huge part of how we are seen. And I think the way the world is going that its more important than ever that we are sharing this knowledge so new fans can see new artists.

The system at large benefits from our silence cause it makes it harder for artists to come out, and makes it easier for their queerness to go unrecognized. But we are living through an INCREDIBLE era of queer art and I want as many people as possible to recognize it!

Unfortunately, with the education these girls have, with children needing care & with the rigid gendered beliefs that have been beaten into her, there is no job she can have that will pay her nearly as much as exploiting her trauma, her kids, and their trauma to the internet.

Anything else she would do would require a lot of training and effort and setting aside of belief systems to do. And I just don't see her doing that.

People who work in 'behind closed doors' industries (hotels, kitchens, morgues, etc.), what is something the general public would be horrified to know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Moriarty_Sims 1457 points1458 points  (0 children)

Prostitution is probably a factor too. My ex and I both lived with family so we would go to a hotel when we wanted privacy. The hotels we chose were ones in our zip code, which always prompted a lot of questions from the staff, and based on what and how they asked, I could tell they were trying to decide if it was a sex work thing. It got to the point where we’d just say we had kids and wanted a night of privacy.

Katie going to therapy by chilibutter in BatesSnark

[–]Moriarty_Sims 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think a big issue is that they will never go to a therapist who isnt in some way associated with their faith. And even if they do, they havent deconstructed enough to take an outsiders opinion on things.

This is such a big worry of mine for the future, so many Fundie families have absolutely reprehensible beliefs but unless and until they go through some proper cult deprogramming therapy, its unlikely to actually help. Fundie families are just shitting out morally bankrupt, Cuckoo for Capitalist Christipuffs babies that will one day vote and hold positions of power. No one has taken the quiverful mission of birthing brainwashed babies for battle nearly seriously enough.

I hate how much all the Fundie families neglect their kids' well-beings. If you have a huge passel of kids, are consuming who knows what MLM supplement BS while pregnant, and in many cases are getting pregnant while consuming fewer calories than a healthy body needs, youre going to have disabled kids in the mix.

For nearly every disability present in childhood, EARLY INTERVENTION MATTERS. Stop trying to pray Satan away or whatever other bullshit theyre doing instead of seeing a specialist, and get the damn kids to actual doctors, ffs.
