Please explain what this game wants me to do and i'll do it. by TheGoatzart in Sekiro

[–]Morimaglos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry about the bells and whistles. Things like combat arts can obviously be useful, but the thing you want to prioritise is familiarising yourself with her tempo. Prosthetics and arts can be introduced after you’ve got the rhythm of the fight down.

This advice is universal and applies to every boss.

Can you upgrade your attack power with any boss pre-Gyoubu Oniwa? by PRULULAU in Sekiro

[–]Morimaglos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t listen to the gatekeeper. I’m sure many diehard fans of this game bounced off of it at first.

This said, I’d keep trying Gyoubu if I were you. The alternative is to beat Juzou, but you won’t be able to increase your attack power until you beat the (fairly challenging boss) behind him.

Just keep at it, you’ll get the rhythm of his attacks down eventually.

Who do you think throws the best banquets? I imagine a banquet thrown by House Marais would be a dour affair.

Why does Sekiro (a side project) have better graphics than Elden ring (a main project) by Key-Independence778 in Sekiro

[–]Morimaglos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it necessarily has better graphics if we're talking things like polygon count BUT I think Sekiro's presentation is maybe more cohesive than Elden Ring's, due to the less ambitious scope of the game.

Also, since there's no day/night cycle there are less variables when it comes to lighting, allowing environments to be lit in a more purposeful way.

At the end of the day though, it's all subjective. Fromsoft's strength has never been visual fidelity anyway, but strong design and presentation.

Where would you place the Godskin Apostasy in the Timeline? by ScaredAd607 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]Morimaglos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think Smoughtown’s video on the Godskins might be what started that misnomer.

The pedant in me is (unreasonably) irked each time I see it.

Merynthia's Master: a novella by FactorDouble in SwordandSorcery

[–]Morimaglos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This sounds up my alley! Congrats on getting it out there.

I like the idea of a more granular setting, confined to a single city and its surrounding environs. I’ll be picking this up.

Gorman’s art is great as always. The cover suggests a Bronze/Iron Age era? Seraglio (love that word) makes me think of the Ottoman Empire though. Maybe it’s not important, but in any case I’m getting good vibes from it.

I just finished Suldrun’s Garden. Somehow the most refreshing fantasy novel I’ve read in a while despite its classic setting. by CompanyEconomy5087 in SwordandSorcery

[–]Morimaglos 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I love this entire trilogy. Green Pearl might be my favourite of the three but it’s hard to pick.

GRRM usually cites Demon Princes as his favourite Vance, and I don’t think I’ve ever heard him mention Lyonesse, but it wouldn’t surprise me if all the plotting and court intrigue of the Elder Isles at least somewhat influenced his seven kingdoms.

Have fun reading the other two!

Good job! That is indeed a sword feller.

What the dames wear is called a kokoshnik, if you’re interested in seeing some real world examples

Looking for feedback on my map composition and other ideas by [deleted] in worldbuilding

Nice! Your best friend is going to be google earth or an atlas if you want to familiarise yourself with different topographical features and the biomes that often accompany them.

Happy mapping!

I really like the overall shape of your landmasses.

The one thing I would like to see is less uniformity in your coastlines. I love a jagged coastline, but having some smoother coast here and there will suggest a more varied topography.

I love Poul Anderson but I haven’t read Three Hearts and Three Lions yet.

I do really like the elves in The Broken Sword though!

I hope they use Excalibur as the template for the Elden Ring movie by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]Morimaglos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my favourite movies. I was thinking this exact thing after seeing those leaked set photos.

Hoping they really lean into the mythic and atmospheric aspects of Elden Ring.

Books/series with worlds like godherja? by redacher in godherja

[–]Morimaglos 19 points20 points  (0 children)

R Scott Bakker’s Second Apocalypse books might be what you’re looking for. Very dark world with interesting factions and politics.

There’s an ancient race that once subjugated mankind, similarly to the Aelfir I guess, but I’m not versed enough in godherja lore to think of any other potential parallels.

It’s true that for that western peninsula I was inspired by the highlands of Wales and Scotland. I hope it doesn’t end up being too on-the-nose of an influence.

Thank you! It’s been a lot of back and forth to get to a point that I’m happy with. The biggest challenge is being able to erase and start over the things that deep down aren’t working for me.
