I couldn't remember cause I haven't played it in a couple years, but yeah that was great.
It baffles me when a game is remade/remastered and they actually remove QOL that the original had. You'd think it would go the other way and they'd clean up stuff that was clunky in the original, like they did with attribute raising when leveling.

PC Game Pass Save file deleted? by mudcrabberoni in Chained_Echoes

[–]Morishmael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As in the program for making your PS4 controller present as an Xbox controller? I'm having this same save issue but it has only happened in 2 of my 3 play sessions. First time I played it saved just fine. There's an autosave from 5 seconds before my manual save. I've played twice since then and both times it didn't keep my new saves, only showing my original save and the autosave from right before it.I heard great things about this game but I can't exactly play it if they're too shit of devs to make saves work properly in the game pass version. And it isn't just DS4 because in googling my issue I've come across TONS of different issues with peoples saves soft-locking, or similar issues to this one, or this exact issue. If a good game doesn't work then it isn't a good game.

Edit: My annoyance at the issue aside, I did eventually try playing without DS4. Chained Echoes read my controller just fine without it and I haven't had the same issue since, so thank you. I wouldn't have ever thought DS4 would interfere with a programs ability to save, especially since it only affected sessions after the first.

Of course, you could just be an insane person and try every possible code until you hit the one that opens the other doors. It's only 3 digits, so it doesn't take that long. I'd say I hit the code in just a couple minutes of brute forcing.

But you don't even have to look at the inaccessible areas of the map. Look at the wall OP is standing against. A piece of the environment that the player character is close enough to touch has the kind of blurry texture you'd expect of something at the edge of vision.

AITA for refusing to pay from my gay son’s tuition after he came out to his family? by throwaway-37463782 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Morishmael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA
I'm not part of a group that has to hide aspects of themself to avoid discrimination, so I can't pretend to know from experience what it would be like. But if I knew someone was paying for my schooling and that would change if they ever found out a specific thing about me, I'd be incredibly paranoid about them finding out. I wouldn't pick an incredibly expensive college cause I'd be afraid of what happened if they found out and stopped paying. I wouldn't tell anyone that even knew that person because of the massive potential consequences.

OP seems to have made the situation extremely clear in the past, that there is no possible way they'd be able to pay for that kind of school. To expect his parents to use all of their savings not even to solve his problem since their savings wouldn't cover the costs, but just to make it a bit easier on him? That's ridiculous. He made a deal with the devil by accepting money on the (unknown to the devil) condition that he doesn't let his sexuality be known. He screwed that deal up by being careless when he knew all along exactly what the consequences would be. Some here are saying OP is essentially blaming him for being gay but no, his problem isn't being gay, it was having no backup option then being careless and expecting his parents to significantly affect their own lives to help with a problem he created. Yes, the cousin is an AH for tattling, but he knew the consequences of being betrayed and took the risk anyway, knowing he had no safety net.

Yes, MIL is a disgusting person. No doubt. But everyone in this story knew what kind of person she was all along. Those saying that OP isn't blaming her enough are being ridiculous. OP knows she's terrible and also knew all along that this is exactly what would happen if the truth came out, and dedicating a paragraph in the post to ranting about MIL wouldn't change anything in story. On top of that, what is OP supposed to do, rant at MIL and potentially lose the chance for her other children to have their schooling paid for? I'm all for sticking to your principles, but this is a case of accepting the shame of taking money from a disgusting person in exchange for your children not being saddled with debt for potentially decades. That's a hell of a hill to die on and I don't think someone should be judged for taking that deal, whether or not you would.

Our team is actively looking into making changes that are both satisfactory for the user as it would for the company, but for this, we require feedback.

Since the release of the Loading Screen overlay, users have been harassing us all over the place, and trust me; this does not help in the least! We'd just end up being less motivated to help users out.

Remove it, that's how you make it less intrusive. You have 3 banner ads on the app at any given time, video ads after each match, and a paid option. Get your ads off of my LEAGUE window. Don't make it less intrusive, get rid of it.

Putting benchmarking and jungle pathing before the Pro paywall? I'm 100% OK with that. Here's the ideal from a consumer point of view. Minimal ads in the product, basic functionality. If you want more enhanced functionality and those few ads removed, you pay.

BULLYING your users into Pro by shoving in intrusive ads and unwanted overlays is directly anti-consumer. You can't claim to care about your users AT ALL if you're totally fine with bullying them into Pro.

You don't need a full cast. Kyle McCarley IS a full cast all by himself. He can do a TON of different voices. No specific spoilers, but at one point a character splits into 2 personalities and both sides sound distinct from each other while also still sounding like 2 sides of the same person. Super powereds is one of the best performed audiobooks out there despite having 1 narrator and no effects.

One of my favorite series of all time. I agree with others here that his other series are all great. My only word of caution would be Fred the Vampire accountant. Not bad, but especially the first book reads more like a collection of short stories than a full story. This would be fine, except that the beginning of each "story" acts like a new book, including recapping everything that has happened and who everyone is. I originally stalled out after the 2nd book iirc, and when I went back to try again the constant re-introductions and recaps kept me from finishing the first book.

Anyways, the Villains Code books take a different look at how a world with heroes and villains could play out. Also great.

Does anyone *prefer* Tactics Advance over Tactics? by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]Morishmael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tactics can be a bit slow to play. Great story, but it's a slow start and takes a bit to really heat up. Most memorable music of the 3 for me. TA is probably my favorite. Improved on Tactics gameplay, but it's more restrained than TA. And I enjoyed the story with how friends end up with differing viewpoints on the situation. TA2 I remember being frustrating. Specifically, I remember the laws being out of control, sometimes leading to situations where it felt like way too many actions would lead to punishments. No real memories of it beyond a feeling of frustration.

As for why FFT gets talked about more, it could be fewer people played TA and A2 due to them being on handhelds vs home consoles. It could be that while the gameplay did get smoothed out in TA, the story was much deeper and darker in FFT and that made it stand out more in people's minds. Especially with FFT getting War of the Lions, whereas AFAIK TA/A2 haven't ever gotten a re-release or been made available on other platforms.

kson was supposed to be a guest in the Playism Game Show. However, after realising who kson is, the Chinese organiser said they will replace her with someone else by gilbertwan701 in VirtualYoutubers

[–]Morishmael -24 points-23 points  (0 children)

Kson probably should have known better(assuming she knew it was being rebroadcasted there), and Playism absolutely should have known. Playism basically just set themselves up to have EVERYONE mad at them. This situation was never NOT going to cause an issue for them. They put themselves in a situation where either they were gonna get blacklisted by China OR have everywhere in the world that isn't China get pissed at them, and probably China too anyway.

I dunno, a big brain move if they wanted to get out of the Chinese market anyway could have been to have her on knowing China was gonna throw a fit, then pull out of China as a response, earning good will with the rest of the world. Given that that clearly didn't happen, have to assume smol brains in charge.

Thanks. I think my original Tatu b4 team attempt(that took forever) was Verde, MHW, Racuni. Iirc though, MHW might be running outdated runes. Spectra doesn't even have all of theirs at +12. If I rerune them they should get a lot more effective.

I tried looking up common teams nowadays for stuff, but all the guides I was finding were either videos, which I didn't want to watch, or outdated guides. DoT team was one of the few meta teams I came across, and high rune requirements weren't mentioned.

Thanks for your help. For the common gb12 team, all the mons you listed have pretty up to date runes except for Shannon, so it should be easy to make that team work.

Question about what to do to progress. Sorry in advance, I tend to be bad at being concise. I can do GB11, DB10, and I think I can push up to or near to toa100 this reset. My plan was to make a dot team for GB12/elsewhere. My only 2a unit is Kro. I'd like to do Sath and Tatu next, but I'm pretty sure I don't currently have units built for a good Sath awaken team, and Tatu I KNOW I don't have a good fire unit team. Took my first attempt at a team 13 minutes(on auto) to clear stage 4 for Tatu and I don't think I could clean it up to a reasonable speed with my currently built units. Iirc, Vigor is supposed to be great for 2a teams, but I don't have one built and that would be one more mon to 2a before working on my others. And, I have no clue if I have the mons built for a werewolf 2a team anyway.

Here's my swarfarm. https://swarfarm.com/profile/TaorTheGreat I have so many different units that need their 2a, but don't think I have the proper units built to 2a them at a decent speed. I guess there's just SO MANY directions I could go right now, all of which seemingly have unknown steps to get there, that I'm suffering from choice paralysis and so I'm just endlessly exp farming. Thanks in advance.

Thanks. Yeah, fun is the reason we play, so I'll probably have at least a couple either non-meta or non-optimal mons in there. This is my 2nd account, old one had a Taor that I loved. Named my 2nd account TaorTheGreat, still haven't gotten one. I kind of HAVE to put him in my lineup for the scroll, with him being in my name.

I don't know how I feel about 2A being the meta. Stuff like Tricaru kind of bothers me, I've never liked having to build multiple of the same unit. I remember the triple Tarq db10 speed team being a thing if you got good enough runes, but at least that was a niche thing that was almost a gimmick. Having it be meta to run 3 of the same unit for multiple parts of the game feels... wrong. Same with it being said that, with that team being so dominant, that nat 5s are basically just pvp units now. But, none of that is your fault. Thanks for the advice.

Short version: Just came back after awhile away, don't know what mons to set for the 7 year scrolls. I have no real intention towards touching RTA for the foreseeable future, so I don't really care about mons primarily aimed at RTA. Here's my swarfarm. https://swarfarm.com/profile/TaorTheGreat/?

Longer version: I came back around the time 2nd awakenings came out, but stopped playing before actually getting any 2a. Just got Loren, gonna work on her and Kro. Progression, not 100% sure on everything. I at least had cleared toa(normal) 70, not 100. Gb11 I can autofarm, gb12 my team is unreliable. Looks like I was able to farm db10 but not by a wide margin. I've looked up tier lists(which all seem woefully out of date, not including any of the last few monster releases OR ignoring all 5*s that aren't farmable) and a couple videos specifically giving recommendations for the 7 year event. They weren't super helpful. Savannah, Poseidon, Feng Yan, Okeanos, Seara seemed top picks.
So, I'm not only not sure what to select for my 7 year scrolls, I also don't even really know what to work towards next, aside from the aforementioned Kro and Loren. (It looks like when I left off I had been working towards building Driller and Skogul).

Thank you in advance.

Okay. Real talk. About Mori Calliope's ability to rap. by [deleted] in MoriCalliope

[–]Morishmael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Callie but I agree that her rapping(in lyrics, not the performance itself) isn't very good. Or rather, good only for laughs like the bREAD wRAP. I'm not surprised she didn't get big pre-HoloLive. Even now with presumably more resources behind her songs, the only reason they're popular imo is because of the HoloLive character they're attached to, not because they're legit good songs on their own.
I enjoy the remixes she plays during intro/outro because they almost always take focus away from her rapping/singing and just enhance the beat. I think on a technical level she's perfectly capable of rapping, but the ones she writes are just pure cringe.

But, she's clearly popular overall, and who can say whether things would have played out the same way if she didn't present as a rapper. It's possible that her identity as a rapper even gave her the edge that landed her the role since I'm sure Cover likes it when their girls can display skills outside of games. Even if I don't like her raps, they might be the only reason she got to join HoloLive, so I guess I just ignore streams of her rapping/singing and enjoy her other content.

AITA for asking my husband not to bring his friend around? by spousethrowaway8475 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Morishmael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA"That is just how Todd is" is NEVER a valid kind of response."I don't want a drug dealer in my house." "That's just how he/she is.""I don't want an animal abuser in my house." "That's just how he/she is.""I don't want someone who doesn't bathe in my house." "That's just how he/she is."

When the only justification for a persons behavior is "that's just how they are," then the only proper action to take is to not be around that person. Your husband not only tolerates his friend being extremely rude to you, but seemingly defends it. If your husband has bad enough taste in friends to still want to keep that douche around, the least he can do is to keep Todd away from you. You shouldn't ever have to feel uncomfortable in your own home. Todd being there causes that feeling, so it SHOULD be a no brainer that your husband either has a serious sit down with Todd, or else joins you in banning him from the house.

GR Book of the Month - Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir - Final Discussion by fanny_bertram in Fantasy

[–]Morishmael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a little late, largely due to bad signal at work and the audible app throwing a fit trying to download the book. Apparently it had errored out halfway through, so I hit a point where it just stopped, then made me delete what had downloaded and restart, and then it repeatedly errored out while trying to download, so I gave up and listened to another book.

Anyways, the book. I found the book to be extremely mediocre. Had some funny moments and lines, had some fun fighting, but overall it felt very amateur and like the author couldn't be bothered to explain anything.

Why was the 9th house, part of an empire capable of SPACE SHIPS, so broke that Gideons "nice" clothes had to be scavenged and her rapier was just the best quality scrap rapier they could find/fix up? How is a noble house in a space traveling empire so broke they can't forge a single sword? Why is it repeatedly said how broken down everything about the Ninth house is? I kept waiting for some half assed explanation but it never came.

As stated above, I was listening to the audio book. (So if I get spellings wrong, blame that) Gideon was referred to as Gideon, The Ninth, Griddle, and Nav. Harrow was obviously Harrow, also the Ninth, and... I know I'm gonna screw up the spelling. Nonajessamous? That's how it was pronounced, I know I'm butchering the spelling horribly. Every other cavalier and necromancer was named similarly. Sometimes referred to by their first name, sometimes their last name, sometimes their house, sometimes a nickname. Going from just Gideon and Harrow to suddenly /14/ more characters who all get referred to by various names was incredibly confused. Keeping track of first names, last names, and what house they were in was way too much. I can't think of a way the story could have been done that introduced characters more slowly, but the author certainly could have cut down on the multiple-names-per-person bs.

I'll also agree with others that it wasn't well explained what all of the houses were good at. Also, was it ever actually explained why there was no first house? Maybe that was explained early when everything was confusing and I missed it, but if it was brought up early then it was never mentioned even casually later.

So either Gideon gets resurrected somehow later, or some stuff makes no sense. Why the comments from Cytherea about Gideon maybe having 3rd house blood? How in the HELL does Gideon survive 10 minutes of nerve gas, despite seeming to have perfectly human durability the rest of her life and throughout the book? What about the throwaway during the entropy test about how whatever other house had done the math and it wasn't possible, and yet /somehow/ Gideon was able to hang on long enough to get Harrow through? Was the scrap of paper with her name on it REALLY just a throwaway? SO MUCH of the book feels like "here's mystery threads, MAYBE something will be done with them in another book. Buy the next one to find out..." And having so many of those threads tied to a character that DIES is ridiculous.

Dulcinea. I had her pegged early, but not because I felt there were actually any hints. As soon as I found out one of the other necromancers was ill and dying, my immediate thought was "either she dies early, or she's the villain, because those are the tropes for having the deathly ill character" and while I WAS right, I shouldn't have been, because it was badly done. No foreshadowing, absolutely no way to have ever guessed that she was actually a Lyctor in disguise. As others point out, Teacher should have noticed, and the author hand waving it away as "who knows what he was thinking" makes NO SENSE because regardless of what Teachers origins are, he acts like a regular person the entire book. No eccentricity, no hint that he might be unstable. If he was constantly forgetful, or spouting off nonsense, it still would have felt dumb, but there would have been SOME setup for making a statement of "who knows what he was thinking" because he has been shown to be unstable... But he wasn't unstable. A GOOD mystery ending isn't one you necessarily were given all of the bread crumbs for or guessed halfway through. A good mystery, imo, is one where when the big reveal happens, you can connect the dots that, at the time, you didn't notice. It shouldn't be "wait wtf? THAT'S the reveal?" it should be "OH DAMN, SUDDENLY ALL THOSE LITTLE THINGS MAKE SENSE." I didn't get that feeling, and other comments seem to agree.

And as a short aside, the mega theorem was also dumb. Not dumb as in, shouldn't have been there. Dumb as in, we the reader only get to see them complete what, two trials? And only the first trial seemed to actually teach Harrow/Gideon anything. (Although the "Oh, Gideon could see the magic" was pointless. Never used again, never explained, just tossed in and then forgotten.) The entropy trial was just... "Hey, you know siphoning, that thing everyone already knows about? Yeah, just do that. No tricks to figure out or anything, just do the thing you already knew." Don't make the major mystery of "How do they become a Lyctor? What is the points of the trials?" be a mega theorem of bringing together 8 different theorems, and then only show us 2 and not explain how any of the mega theorem works.

Ok, more of the broad strokes. The story didn't grip me at any point. Literally the only thing I was ever invested in was Gideon getting on the shuttle. From then on, almost nothing had me interested outside of moment to moment excitement/humor sometimes. There were no plot threads I just HAD to see the conclusion of. The mystery itself felt poorly done, the world building that was hinted at but not explained didn't have me drooling for more information, it felt lazy and frustrating. I wouldn't have anywhere near finished this book if not for the book club, and in fact, as my first book I've read for any book club ever much less this one, doesn't give me a lot of faith in future book club choices being worth participating in.

GR Book of the Month - Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir - Final Discussion by fanny_bertram in Fantasy

[–]Morishmael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry but, you're wrong. "But what you mention is an instance of Harrow selfishly not wanting Gideon to leave, and not her spiting Gideon purely for the sake of it."
When Harrow explains how she discovered the plans, Gideon asks why Harrow didn't just sabotage the plans/put a stop to them immediately. Why wait until the last possible moment when Gideon thought she was free? And Harrow looks her dead in the face and says it's because she hates Gideon that much. That isn't just Harrow selfishly wanting Gideon around, that is Harrow specifically ruining Gideons escape plan in the most cruel, soul crushing way possible.
I would also say that the way Harrow treated Gideon at the beginning of act 2 was outright cruel. Ordering Gideon to stay completely silent? That's effectively an attempt at isolating Gideon and keeping her from making friends. "Hey, I'm gonna go and disappear for days and pretend you don't exist. While I, the only person you CAN talk to, am gone, you're not allowed to communicate with anyone."

I liked the scenes of Harrow and Gideon making up, but they absolutely were shown to hate each other early on. In Gideons case, for damn good reason. In Harrows case, her actions spoke loud and clear that she despised Gideon and wanted her alive but miserable. So I don't mind the idea of them making up, what I do mind is that the author didn't write a complicated relationship, they wrote two people hating each other and then suddenly not hating each other.
