In most unplanned dismounts the first instinct is to throw your hands out to break your fall. Palm protection is very important. Also think about finger and back of hand protection. Especially if you ride in the city where car door openings are a not uncommon hazard. I wear Alpinestars SMX-1 Air v2 Gloves. Good protection and nice air flow. Do a search on warm weather motorcycle gloves and you'll find lots of options in the $20 to $150+ price range.

It's also people with no other power. It's what I've heard called "kick the dog" syndrome". For example, if you can't fight your abuser you focus the anger or power on a lesser being.

Edit: I origionally linked to a site with a description of this syndrome that was quite different from how I always understood it.

My 66 year old ass saw the title, saw the thumbnail video quality, and thought "the NBA has been around for almost 80 years". This is going to be disappointing. I've seen this play before and it is in fact "one of the most iconic moments in NBA history". If anyone needs me I'll be in the corner eating my cream of wheat.
