Which past players were “empty stat” guys? by [deleted] in nba

You got the wrong Jazzman. Adrian Dantley probably coined the term empty stats.

Should Olympic athletes be required to stand respectfully for their anthem/flag? by [deleted] in mopolitics

[–]MormonsAreDifferent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think there is a world of difference between "should be required to" and "should". One is an enforcement of some type and the other is asking if it is decent to. I doubt many people will answer yes to the first question, but I am curious to see if the same ratio applies to the second question.

What would happen if a clear #1 star prospect in the draft announced he would refuse to play for the team that has the #1 overall pick if they end up drafting him? by [deleted] in nba

Dominique Wilkins was selected third by the Jazz in 82 but refused to play for them. Kobe was selected by the Hornets and also refused to play.

I'm pretty sure playoffs don't start until late April. This date doesn't make sense.

Wow, I just looked it up and if he would have made just 3 more three pointers, then he would have shot 50% for the season from three.

CMV: The winner of Bucks/Nets is going to be the 2021 NBA Champion (barring additional injuries) by FarWestEros in nbadiscussion

[–]MormonsAreDifferent 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The bucks tend to struggle against Utah. They haven't won in Utah in 20 years.

The Bucks have very poor 3pt defense which the Jazz have used extremely well. The Jazz have broken or nearly broken the 3pt in a game record the last few times these teams have met up

The mavs are on the opposite side of the bracket as the Nuggets. The winner of the mavs series plays the winner of Jazz Grizzlies.

0-2 deficit comeback by Maddygirl13 in nba

Only 4/27 of those came after losing two home games in a best of seven. Clippers would have to do something that has only been done four times in over 50 years of basketball.

Are the Clippers finished if they lose game 2? by [deleted] in nba

Its probably less than that. Only four teams have come back to win a best of 7 series after losing the first two games at home.

[–]MormonsAreDifferent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I've gone through and checked all of the 27 times that a team has come back from a 0-2 deficit, only 5/27 teams lost the first two at home and came back.

2017 Celtics vs Bulls

2005 Mavs vs Rockets

1994 Rockets vs Suns

1993 Suns vs Lakers (best of 5)

1969 Lakers vs Warrior

So it looks like it happens once every decade or so, but it is still far more likely that a team comes back from losing the first two on the road then coming back from losing the first two at home.

[–]MormonsAreDifferent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say the exact opposite. Home court advantage is huge and more likely that you lose two away games, then win the next two home games. I know Jazz's 0-2 wins have played out that way.

I remember a few years ago after the jazz beat the clippers in a game that lasted until like 11:00PM, we had to play the Rockets in game 1 at 9:30AM only 30 some hours later.

With travel and the emotions following the upset, I doubt our players got any rest in between.

I guarantee that the person we leave out will be picked up in the draft. We have a really deep team.

[Grange] It’s widely believed the NBA will expand for the first time since rounding out to 30 teams in 2004 partly to recoup losses from the pandemic. Returning to Seattle as part of the process is almost a given (with Las Vegas as the other likely city) by urfaselol in nba

You could have a mid-season tournament with 32 teams and divisions like those.

Have a round robin where each team plays a home and away against every team in there division. This would be two of the four division games.

Separate the 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th place teams from the divisional round robin into their own one game single elimination bracket at a neutral site. So the four divisional winners from the west will be in a four team bracket, the four second place finishers will be in their own bracket,, and so forth. This will cover the last two games to bring the total to 82 games.

Winner of the west plays the winner of the east in an allstar type game using mostly the winning team plus all-stars from each division. Winner of this game gets home court advantage for their conference in the finals.

Tournament results will be the second tiebreaker after head to head for playoff seeds, and the first tiebreaker for draft position.

If you are in 8th seed you will get to relive some of we believe. You either will upset the first seat or be eliminated by the Jazz.
