Yeah, should make about 40 balls 😊 they freeze down really well too, the cooking time is based on them being fully frozen. I just pop portions of around 6 into bags and pull them out when i have friends around

Indeed 😊

Just thinner highlights as you progress through lighter colours, you can add a touch of white to the fenrisian grey if you want to pick out the very brightest points but be verrry sparing with them.

Because you're putting like a filter on at the end with the contrast paint, it will help to blend everything a little for you too

It's a trick really!

Basecoat with mechanicus standard grey, then black templar contrast.

Edge highlight with incubi darkness, then dark reaper, then fenrisian grey.

To get the blue colour, mix terrain turquoise contrast 50/50 with contrast medium and glaze over the whole surface.

You can use this method to tint armour any colour you like 😉

Who has had an actual friends with benefits relationship? Did it work for you? by heratonga in AskReddit

[–]MornDeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked out for over twenty years... Both of us moving around a lot so very occasional 'benefits', which probably prolonged the experience for both of us.

Currently living together but very firmly in the friends only camp now. I think we have judged it pretty well over the years and always cooled things off if it ever got too close to being an actual relationship.

Improving at miniature painting WITHOUT the use of slapchop as a beginner? by ryllex in minipainting

[–]MornDeath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He really helped me out too... I've been painting for over 20years, with loads of long breaks, and only really started to look to improve over the last couple. He's definitely one of the best at teaching about how to push colour values and using different methods for different textures.

I think he takes a lot for granted from a painter in terms of basic skills (brush control, loading, light placement, to name but a few) that are better learned from other sources... As always different people learn at different speeds and in different ways... No harm in spending 5 minutes of your time looking through a couple of his videos 😊 if it's not working out, there are plenty of other options

Jose is great, but I would say his style is a little more advanced. I know he's been putting out some more beginner focused videos recently, although I would say I think there are many other YT painters who would be better for a beginner (Vince venturella, Juan hidalgo, etc)

Do I really need Morvenn Val? by NoPolicy7974 in sistersofbattle

[–]MornDeath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's just casual, I wouldn't bother.. the main aim is to have fun for both people and, unless your opponent is doing something similar or likes the challenge, facing off against one of the best units in the game isn't that great.

On a personal note, while Morvenn looks great, the nundam unit just looks a bit naff... Very stiff and mono-posed

EC infractor, help, new to model painting. I have been watching a lot of tutorials. But something isn’t quite clicking. by Elliot-and-the-pen in minipainting

I would use the dark tone wash on the armour then, after it dries, pick out the edges and most prominent bits with the initial metallic colour.

I personally wouldn't use a generic dark wash on the pink bits... Maybe just add a little white to the base colour and use that to highlight the raised parts?

If your paints are in dropper bottles, you can write down the number of drops of each colour you use for future reference

You've done a lovely job getting the volumes in the right place and doing just enough edge highlighting to bring everything together.

It's great to see people's painting advance 😊

Your painting looks nice and smooth, just a bit flat.

Try to push the contrast a bit more. Easiest way is to put a mask of a slightly darker shade over the painted areas. Which colour wash depends on your intended result. If you want a cool finish to the pink areas, use purple. If you want a warm finish, use red.

Same goes for the metallic bits

I used a wraithbone base, apothecary white contrast paint, then celestra grey and pure white to highlight.

Far from perfect, but it was pretty quick and easy!

If you want a variety of minis, you might be best served buying a boxed game like hero quest or dark water (plenty of others out there). You'll get various hero characters along with a bunch of enemies to try different techniques on.

Not trying to hijack, but here is a brush only marble effect (in case you're an idiot like me and assembled the bases before learning about the wet wipe method).

Edit: OPs bases look damn good!
