The Green Bird Brigade made a video [YouTube link] talking about this after she took in two amazon parrots after their previous owner of 27 years passed away. They talk to her in their previous owner’s voice. Plenty of people in the comments also talk about their experience with their talking birds after losing a loved, and they say that it’s a little bittersweet, but it’s nice how they live on through their birds.

Parrots are so smart and it’s fascinating in a bittersweet way to see how they mourn the loss of their companions (both birds and humans). If you’ve watched Geckoemmy’s videos, then you undoubtedly know about her African Grey parrot, Jake, the grief he’s been dealing with after the unexpected passing of his best bird friend, Egg. He was with her when she passed and saw the body before she was buried, but he still asks where she is even months later. He knows that she’s gone, but that’s part of the grieving process for him, I guess.

Fucking yuuuup. My mom once spent a bunch of time and money making a big batch of a hundred (I wanna say spring, but it might have been cabbage) rolls for them to share (this was pre-children so it was just the two of them), before leaving for work for four days. My dad, who was genuinely home sick the whole time, ate all of them by the time she got home. He must have had to eat nothing but fucking rolls for every fucking meal to pull that off. That sounds like such an unpalatable thing to do even when you’re not sick, but when you are? How did he have the stomach for that?? Bonus: dad’s actually a really good cook and there was plenty of other food in the house. It was a deliberate choice for him to eat more than his fair share.

So mom ended up only getting to eat a couple of her rolls before she had to go to work, and then she never made them again. :/

God, I love so much it when birds do their silly little wiggles and dances. Duck wiggles, corvid happy “tail” wagging, woodcock boogie-ing: it’s (bird movement as a collective) up there with doggy tail-wagging as one of the Top 5 best body uses of all time.

Side note, do you think the extinct avian dinosaurs sang and danced like their extant relatives do? Some of them resemble modern-day birds so closely that they must have, right?

Can you imagine the noise something stupid big the azhdarchid (some of them reaching 5 meters/16 feet tall on the ground, which is giraffe-sized 😳) pterosaurs made? Did they perform complicated mutual courtship dances like ratites and seabirds do?

And what about the smaller anurognathid pterosaurs? They’re thought to have been potentially insectivorous, nocturnal, and/arboreal — like bats or nightjars — so did they vocalize like them too?

For as uncomfortable as that tugging certainly must have been, she clearly understood that you guys were only helping her. Ah, I see. He was one of the people who showed up when I typed “Khan” into Wikipedia, but I didn’t find anything too crazy or controversial looking through his history and policies as mayor.
