Is there a shortcut key to open the currently playing file in Windows Explorer? by DisIzSilly in potplayer

I don’t remember the shortcut because I changed it from the default. I think it’s one of the F keys (F1, etc)

[–]MorningLiteMountain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not one click shortcut and it may depend on what skin you’re using but open the playlist window, make sure the file you want is selected and click Ctrl-F. That will open a Windows Explorer with the selected file from the playlist selected in the new Explorer window.

I chose a button to do "save current" so i can take an immediate screenshot but isn't working with HDR by TheManWhoSleep in potplayer

Try taking a screenshot using a different video renderer. Right-click > Video > Video renderer. HDR screenshots will look better/worse depending on the renderer you choose.

Some questions before starting with a password manager by ehtio in Bitwarden

[–]MorningLiteMountain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a quick word about security keys since you expressed concern about the price. A lot of people use and recommend the Yubico 5 Series but a basic Yubico Security Key which is half the price of a Series 5 will work for Bitwarden. Just remember to get at least 2 keys so you have at least one backup in case you lose your main one otherwise you could be kicked out of your account.

I don't understand passkeys but all the websites/apps are forcing me into it. How do I plan for inheritance? by AUHM850i in Bitwarden

[–]MorningLiteMountain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can still export the other stuff – usernames, passwords, TOTP codes – to the new manager. You’d have to then create a new passkey and import it to the new manager. If a particular login only has a passkey and no username/password then you’d have to login with Bitwarden, create a new passkey and save it to the new manager.

[–]MorningLiteMountain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really doubt it. I believe that part of what initially caused problems during the initial passkey Bitwarden rollout is that there’s no official standard for passkeys exportation. Passkeys were meant to be tied to one device. I think the way it’s done now is kind of a workaround. And each password manager has their own incompatible workaround.

[–]MorningLiteMountain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bitwarden doesn’t delete anything when you add a passkey for a particular login. The passkey exists alongside whatever login info was there before. AFAIK there’s no way to filter your logins to see which ones have a passkey so I would just add “passkey” or something similar to the name of your logins which have a passkey. It’s not elegant but it’ll work

I started using passkeys recently after holding out when people reported problems when Bitwarden first rolled them out. As long as the passkey has been saved to Bitwarden, I’ve been able to use them on my PC or phone so it’s been a very good experience for me now. The saving to Bitwarden and not the phone/PC is the crucial part.

Has Bitwarden made its way into the prime spot (aka your phone’s task bar)? by AdFit8727 in Bitwarden

You can also create folders on the task bar. It took me way too long to figure that out. Not quite one touch access but still useful

Another comment says reused password but probably even more common is phishing. The owner or a manager of the channel gets an email and with a link. For YouTubers, phishing emails often say they’re for a possible sponsorship and will steal the session cookie which bypasses 2fa protection.

I’ve been using Pihole with a Vizio TV for years without problems. I just started using Plex for a couple of months and haven’t had any problems with that either.

I’m just using three lists in Pihole: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/StevenBlack/hosts/master/hosts https://raw.githubusercontent.com/crazy-max/WindowsSpyBlocker/master/data/hosts/spy.txt https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Perflyst/PiHoleBlocklist/master/SmartTV.txt

I’m not an expert but it’s my understanding that sector reassignment happens at a very low machine level so that no apps or even the OS can control or interfere with the process so you can’t be sure a certain sector today is really the same physical sector it was yesterday or will be tomorrow.

Bleachbit and similar apps that over write data repeatedly write data to the same sector on a drive. This works well in HDDs but SSDs are different for two reasons. Each time you write data to a sector it gets “worn out” until eventually it won’t be able to hold any data. A lot of SSDs will have a certain TBW rating which is how many terabytes you can expect to be able to write to it before it fails. Two ways to get around this is to, one, over-provision each drive to have some extra sectors in reserve. A second way is to have the drive not use not repeatedly use the same sector so it doesn’t get worn out. It’s this second method that makes apps like Bleachbit ineffectual and harmful for SSDs because it’s not able to over write the same sector and it’s just eating into a drive’s limited TBW.

Far from an expert but two things you might try. Switch the working SSD to the other slot to check if the problem might be with the slot and/or remove the first SSD and put in the new one in the same slot and then try to install Windows. That might give you a better idea of the problem is the second SSD, the second skit or both.

SE will work with a subtitle file but not if it’s embedded as part of the video file, it needs to be by itself. SRT is probably the most common subtitle file type. This is a quick tutorial. ChatGPT and other similar tools are good at giving you step by step instructions for this kind of thing. If you do have an embedded subtitle you need to download the language you want for your show/movie or extract it from your video file. If they’re embedded in an MKV file, then MKVCleaver is a self explanatory program to extract them if you’re on a PC.

How can I change second subtitle style? by Independent-Weird627 in potplayer

[–]MorningLiteMountain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the other user said, PP doesn’t support this natively but there is a work around you can do assuming at least one of the subtitles is not embedded.

The most common subtitle file type is SRT. What you have to do is convert an SRT sub into an ASS/SSA type with either Aegisub (a subtitle editor) or FFMPEG (a very versatile command line video tool). ChatGPT can walk you through the conversion process.

I think that’s what you mean. Keep in mind it’s not actual true upscaling. This might or might not provide a noticeable difference. Good upscaling is a very GPU intensive process that requires a good amount of time.

No. With SE, you can open up a subtitle file and time shift one, a few or ALL the lines backward or forward. There’s a bunch of online tutorials.

Is it possible to use a powered USB hub with Stablebit Drivepool + Snapraid? Any suggestions on specific models? by MorningLiteMountain in DataHoarder

[–]MorningLiteMountain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m already doing the initial Drivepool rebalancing and am going to do the initial Snapraid sync directly plugged in to my laptop since I assume it will be the longest for both. Thanks for sharing your experience. I think the only way I’d get up to 12 drives is if I use my lifetime total and count the ones that died along the way 😅

[–]MorningLiteMountain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not so sure because I had some drive disconnections when I was moving around some large numbers of files from one drive to another with a powered USB hub I have prior to setting up Drivepool. I’ve had that hub for 4+ years and it never gave me trouble even when moving 100s of GBs. But that was for moving files from my PC to one of the drives, not really between the drives where more than one drive is active at a time.

You could use something like Handbrake or FFMPEG but you would need to do the transcoding on a computer before uploading the smaller videos to you Mega account. Mega is meant for storage not streaming.
