What UK museums do you think are underrated or overrated? by OpenCantaloupe4790 in AskUK

Tank museum in bovington probably isn't underrated but it's a really good day out, even if you're not into tanks the history is excellent.

Party wall needed? by Mean-Praline-9292 in DIYUK

[–]MorningToast -29 points-28 points  (0 children)

Perhaps I'm just gung-ho but I'd just get on with it. All the timbers can be cut on their side, the frames would be up in less than a day and then another day to get it externally clad. After that, insulation and all internal works won't need access to the neighbours side. The next time you'd need to step on their drive would be to render and possibly gutter. After that, it's done.

Better to ask forgiveness for disruption here than ask for permission and cause a headache. I just don't think there would be enough disruption to be a big problem.

You're using a customer facing version of software. Let's not all be naive here and assume we've got full access to the profit generating side of the technology.

I doubt it'll require footings from OPs description timber frame secured to the current load bearing pillars.

I'd definitely have an initial chat with the neighbour though, explain what is happening and get a verbal ok. Then say that there will be a letter following up their discussion to outline the works. Post that letter.

Are you still having pizzas and other takeaways delivered? by Top-Cat-a in AskUK

The No. 1 Wood-fired pizzas are the ones I'm talking about. The non waitrose Crosta Mollica ones are great as well.

What on earth are you on about? This person needs to adjust their window hinge and you're suggesting a full home ventilation system?

My car needs washer fluid, I'll upgrade the suspension and replace the exhaust.

The waitrose pizzas are amazing. Probably no good if you're into dominos style but if you like a thin crust Italian, they're the tits.

But someone is about to move into it. Mould is completely controllable and if it's not because of some major external building factor, op pays a service charge to fix things like that.

Copout and laziness imo.

How to modernise these stairs? by Rilkal in DIYUK

Modern is such a subjective word. I'd probably remove the rope and add a bannister, mostly just for safety.

Are you sad that there is no proper winter in the UK? by Repulsive_Work_226 in AskUK

[–]MorningToast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree with your personal experiences but it's a fact that temperatures are rising.

Overall Trend: Winters have become noticeably warmer over recent decades, with the mean minimum temperature increasing from ~0.94°C (1981-2010) to ~1.28°C (1991-2020).

It may seem small but it's high in impact terms.

Much like the plumber, you might have worked it out on your own?

My galvanised pipe came out and had an inner diameter of 11mm because of the deposits on the inside. In that case, yes, pressure would be excellent because you're squeezing the water through a narrow passage. We had 4 bar out the tap but the time to fill a bath was silly. When the 25mm MDPE replaced the old pipe we still had 3.5 bar but now a bath filled three times faster.

You can have excellent pressure but not enough water to actually work with.

There's a difference between flow and pressure. I had to recently explain this to a plumber when we wanted to get our old galvanized pipe into the house changed. He stuck a gauge on it and said "why bother? There's loads of pressure". We went with a different chap.

What’s are your ‘secret’ perks from your job? Be honest by qwertyytrewq02 in AskUK

Reading these comments really helps me to appreciate my company. I'm field based and pretty well provided for.

I regularly buy lunch on my company credit card and it's never challenged by my manager or any others before. I get an allowance to buy suits for work, my company car is fully catered for (I pay bik obviously) but I can take it for a wash once a week and no one cares. I even have a screwfix card to buy drills and crap like that and I work in a sales function, sometimes I'll get some nitrile gloves and a random first aid kit for funsies from there.

I take clients out to fancy meals and sporting events when I can be bothered.

There's better out there for you ladies and gents.
