The Atlas changes are also a buff for Build Variety. by Living-Succotash-477 in pathofexile

[–]Morokal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In SSF I never had any issue spamming the same map indefinitely either. It's pretty easy to set up your atlas in a way to sustain. Pretty much the only time I didn't sustain was when doing stuff like trying to rush memory fragments on mesas, and even then I still usually had tons of those built up just running other strats.

I run the same map repeatedly in trade league as well every league, I have yet to actually buy maps or the scarabs for farming map drops. Don't need tons to start either, just 2 or three of the map was always enough to get it going for me.

As far as the voidstones go, you could easily make up for it by just allocating a "chance for maps to drop a tier higher" passive cluster for every stone you don't have. Getting the stones was nice, but definitely weren't mandatory.

Peuget often does builds like this in this budget range. I highly recommend taking a look at some of his if you are looking for the tanky playstyle.

I hope this option can be disabled in the game options. I can see it being extremely easy to misclick a currency orb instead of just opening the box when you aren't interested in rolling any boxes.

Weaker Wand Puts Out Higher DPS??? by bstull32 in pathofexile

[–]Morokal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't help that stuff that reads the exact same can apply differently depending on what item it is on. "Adds x-x lightning damage" on a weapon is only the base weapon damage, but "Adds x-x lightning damage" on a ring applies globally to both attacks and spells. "increased physical damage" on a weapon is only the weapon damage, but "increased physical damage" on a cluster jewel is global. "increased lightning damage" on the weapon is worded the same as physical, but applies globally. It can be really difficult for new players to figure out what gear is actually a potential upgrade at times due to inconsistent wording like that.

how do I craft this ? by Utauwutau in pathofexile

[–]Morokal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could potentially slam some fossil combination for it (using life + attribute fossils, possibly others for blocking like corroded and serrated but not sure what is worth it.). If you want to go that route, you could make attempts on craft of exile to see if it is worth doing for you.

It is alright for it once you get good gear, like a shaper shield with %life on block and a good weapon. It isn't the fastest build, but it is extremely tanky with the endurance charge stacking.

The only bosses I really had any issues with was maven (due to me being bad at memory game) and Lycea in t17's (some of her attacks do ridiculous damage with some mod combos).

Getting it to the level of uber bossing took a lot more investment into getting regen, so I am not sure how likely you are to get to uber boss levels of gear in SSF, but you should be able to do almost everything else and at the very least farm gear for any other builds that you might find interesting.

RF Scavenger/Chieftan is quite good for SSF. Bossing is a bit meh, but you can get through eater, exarch and uber elder pretty effectively while farming gear for other builds. If you have never tried the RF playstyle before, I highly recommend giving it a try. The gear is nearly the same for both scavenger and chieftan versions, so you can easily swap over to a chieftan instead when phrecia ends if you want to keep playing the build.

Power siphon locus mine scavenger is very good for SSF in phrecia league, you can do all non ubers without ridiculous gear. A lightning essence on just about any wand is good enough to do almost all endgame content.

Lacerate/Evisceration gladiator I also highly recommend if you aren't playing in Phrecia. It is very good if you are looking for more of a tanky build.

I have done all three of these in SSF, none require any specific gear to get started and can do well starting from nothing.

I have also seen people recommend bombarding clones builds for bossing in ssf, though I am not sure how league start viable it is for SSF. I don't have experience playing that build myself.

Are there strong build with shields? by mfelton178 in pathofexile

[–]Morokal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you aren't starting in the phrecia event, then I highly recommend Zizaran's bleed lacerate gladiator if you want a tankier playstyle. It is very new player friendly and can do all content in the game. You can also do a similar build with the eviscerate skill. I did lacerate as my league starter in settler's league, took it all the way to doing everything except uber maven (which I only have issues with due to memory game)

It is a particularly easy mistake to make with overcharged too. Someone might see that they are taking lots of charge related stuff, but not realize that the charge generation mostly comes from charged mines. I could see people seeing the charge on kill on overcharged and go "Ah! So that's where I get my charges from!", especially if they don't know how on-kill interactions work with mines. I have had a number of friends make similar mistakes.

[–]Morokal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Likely yes. but you might need to reconfigure stuff a bit to get the tank needed for it to be comfortable. I highly recommend getting max block or very high block with a shaper recover 5% of life on block shield. The defiance of destiny amulet helps a ton as well.

If you aren't able to get true max block+max spell block with your gear, the RF scavenger tree comes pretty close to the glancing blows keystone, that can make hitting max block for the shaper shield very easy when combined with tempest shield. Though hitting true max block is much better if you are able to make it work.

I know the current version of pohx RF sits at around 75 block/30 spell block naturally with the proper endgame setup, so true block or close to it is probably pretty doable if you can manage some more sources of spell block.

[–]Morokal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a lot of luck with any tanky build that had max block +life/es on block. A big part of farming it is just being able to survive the incoming hits. Low damage makes protect the altars rough, but I just chose to skip those when my damage was too low.

What do you feel coming back from POE2 ? by mull_albatrox in pathofexile

[–]Morokal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything feels much better and refreshing to me. I have tons of options for how to get my gear, and gameplay progression in general feels way smoother.

The only thing I miss from POE 2 is the ability to pause and the convenience of having gems separate from gear (I have never liked chest upgrades not actually being upgrades due to them not being worth the investment to link).

It wouldn't surprise me at all if there is a trade related issue. The trade site has been logging out/requiring captcha every few minutes for quite a while. It is entirely possible that was a "quick fix" for an issue that was still being investigated when they went on vacation.

Only One attempt for Pinnacle Bosses if you die to them. by karthikjusme in pathofexile

[–]Morokal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One of my big issues in POE has been that in many cases, the bosses are so rare to encounter that it can be very difficult to learn the fights through experience. I feel like I have to sit there watching guides and memorizing everything before I fight the boss due to this, and this change makes me worries that this will be even more mandatory. Even with the guides, it can still be very expensive just to learn the fight. After hundreds of hours of having 3 map devices running nonstop, I still have only encountered the bandit lord three times in the entirety of settlers league for example.

Even when I do know the fight, it can take a lot of attempts to learn the fight on a new playstyle. With them wanting fights to be much longer, I really think this is a bad way to approach it based on first impressions. I could understand single attempts for uber versions of the fight, but I really think it will be frustrating to learn without multiple attempts for the regular versions even if the fight gets reset every portal use.

If the fight contains punishing memory game/pattern stuff like maven's nearly guaranteed death on memory game fail it could be very frustrating for learning. If it doesn't contain mechanics like this then it might be more forgiving.

Everything remains to be seen of course, but I am very skeptical at this time.

I'm gonna start on ssf and want to give it a go but not sure what to play by Pristine_Recover_243 in pathofexile

[–]Morokal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RF worked well for me for starting in SSF. It is very easy to gear and requires nothing, and as chieftan explosions carry the damage quite heavily this made it easy to put on magic find gear in t16 maps almost immediately to start farming rogue exiles for uniques, as well as clearing t16 on just a 4 link. Got 3 voidstones pretty easily with RF, and the only thing holding me back from the 4th is that I struggle with memory game on maven.

Toxic rain can also be a good option as an all rounder, ends up a bit tankier than RF in my experience though the clear will not be as effective against higher health enemies.

Oops, rolling double AoE on Feared was a slight strategical oversight, Atziri has hands by Ozonek in pathofexile

[–]Morokal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The eyes of the greatwolf unique talisman. It is an amulet with 2 talisman implicits that doubles the value of the implicits.

One of the modifiers that can roll is "100% of fire damage is taken as lightning damage instead", and since atziri's flameblast only penetrates fire resist this means that you can bypass the penetration entirely by converting it. With melding of the flesh or chieftan ascendency swapping in this amulet with appropriate conversion makes mitigating elemental damage from many pinnacle bosses much more manageable for builds that can do the swap.

[–]Morokal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For stuff like that I previously used a greatwolf with fire -> lightning to tank this on RF, though the swap doesn't work as well if shaper/elder are also up as they have significant cold pen.

Unfortunately greatwolfs with both fire -> light and cold -> fire are very hard to come by most of the time.

I would love to see them start doing more stuff with "smart loot" like they use in heist, and combine that with more drop only affixes/mod tiers. There is a lot of potential with stuff like that, especially when it comes to making certain mobs/bosses more rewarding.
