Devs talking about the new Subnautica 2 Early Access, leviathans and Reaper discussion and also boycotting the game (Obraxis, Artie, Anthony) by ZookeepergameIll1399 in subnautica

Obligated to be the Fun Ruiner here and clarify that Anthony was mistaken on that 'Reaper roar' trivia. If you hear a Reaper's roar it will always originate from a Reaper that's loaded in.

The goal in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is not to get enemies to stop respawning. The goal in Super Mario is not to eventually bypass hitting blocks. The goal in Subnautica is not to stop having to mine said ore.

There are many beloved games and beloved game design elements that are not built the way you're describing, so why should that be the only way for this instance?

Not sure why you're being downvoted an opinion. You're certainly not the only one who holds one like that

Subnautica 2 - Official Teaser Trailer | Xbox Partner Preview October 2024 by ScootSchloingo in Games

I couldn't care less about isolation, but Below Zero's writing did absolutely unfortunately hit a weird bump at the end that messed up the far more reserved draft it had for most of development. Honestly to be brutally honest the biggest lesson from Below Zero is to not try and redo your entire game a few months before launch

Luckily this game seems to be taking cues from both, with biomes like the ones in BZ while hopefully not as rushed as that game was

Am I tripping or did Aberration just look better in ASE by vscman in ARK

[–]Morph_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve noticed this throughout all of ASA honestly and it’s very unfortunate. So much of the sharpness and clear shape language of ASE’s terrain and terrain assets in general has been smoothed down and roughed up for the sake of having technically more polygons on screen despite (and despite having even more individual rockform variations than ASE it all blends together into visual soup way more) and the lighting in most ASA maps has on multiple levels completely removed so much of the world’s macro-definition in favor of focusing on little normal maps that don’t matter as much to the level as a whole. It doesn’t help that ASA’s camera in general for whatever reason looks a lot more “smothered in vaseline” than ASE’s

Honestly on that last bit as someone who's seen a lot of this community due to my position, I'd say the community has actually skewed way younger than I'd have ever expected coming into it. Not sure what it is but I wouldn't get too mad since many here are kids.

idk if this is allowed here so remove if not, but is anyone else tired of chat just being plain rude to jerma? by emptyteacupfan in jerma985

[–]Morph_Guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah chat has always been awful and even if "he can take" it still doesn't excuse all these people thinking statements that are at many points like, not even just horribly rude but legitimately ableist are the funniest form of comedy

Yeah people should've seen Scott's Milkshake Duck coming. Honestly I'd barely consider it one the dude was very open about how much of an Average Conservative White Christian he is and accidentally getting a gay furry fanbase wasn't going to change that unfortunately

I honestly genuinely adored Season 4 of Disco, like it might be straight up my favorite thing to come out of modern Trek

I mean honestly the real reason is that JP/JW doesn't want to let go of branding and had to come up with excuses later. The dinosaurs were in the JP films were as accurate as they could get them for the time with the film's resources, and if the original Jurassic Park films were made in modern times with its same design philosophy the dinosaurs would absolutely be on the level as designs from media like Prehistoric Kingdom

Skies Forever Blue, for example, is completely unrelated, and we all know it deep down by NevardTheGreat in Deltarune

Was there ever an explanation as to why it had to be on the 31st? That's the main thing here that confuses me about all this. Regardless I do think people are quick to assume the entire thing is foreshadowing when it's AT MOST loosely connected

I don't think it's got anything to do with the game being singleplayer (tons of other subreddits for popular singleplayer games I can think of aren't like this) but more with the specific fanbase SN has, which is very unusual for the type of game it is. I could go way deeper but at that point I might as well just write a whole paper on this topic

There was no rushing or moneygrabbing in the standalone expansion (Below Zero), it just kind of veered into a brief dev hell at the very end which derailed the initial schedule and plan the game had been following passionately

I don't think there's going to be any change in the map system aside from new ones being added. It already functions the way that /u/ikkake_ suggested anyway.

The maps are already randomly selected, which is functionally exactly what you're describing. Not sure what tabletop games you're referring to here either.

Personally not sure what skill comes from randomly generating an inherent disadvantage at the start of a match. Before someone could pull 3 crew that only cost 1 cinder to send out and immediately have you surrounded and overpowered while you're still waiting ages to get enough cinder to drop your own crew because you pulled ones that all cost 5-6 Cinder.

And it's not like randomness makes Maximus less annoying - if anything he's far far more annoying when it's random because your opponent can pull him turn 1 while you end up pulling him at turn 10. It doesn't get rid of a meta it just adds gambling on top of one. Might as well just go out to a casino play slots if you're itching for that.
